Amadora (Gift of Love) Vintage House on 1/2 Acre, Nearby Sonoma Plaza
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This warm and charming house, a true Sonoma craftman's style built in 1891, sits on almost half an acre of land, totally enclosed to give you privacy and let you forget about the world. A nearby walking trail leads to Sonoma Plaza.
The main bedroom features a plush California king sized bed. The second and third bedrooms each have a pillow-top queen bed. Views of the Sonoma hillside are available from all bedrooms.
Relax and unwind in the lounge chairs just outside the covered back porch. To the right is a hot tub for four with an outdoor shower station, and to the left is an eating area for six with a three burner BBQ. Take a siesta after a nice meal, lie down and swing gently on the hammock for two.
The garden offers delights seasonally through year with 30 fruit trees and shrubs (peach, apple, pear, tangerine, pommelo, orange, grapefruit). Among the grove of the trees, settle back in a rocking chair, or relax on the comfortable sectional sofa under a gazebo.
Game Room: A recreation room has been added recently, with an 8' pool table, a 55' TV connected to HD cable box and Blue Ray DVD player, and a lounge/ bar area.
Wireless Connectivity: There is wireless connectivity throughout the property, so you can go to the internet with your laptop from the gazebo, the cabana, the porches, the game room or the al fresco dining area.
Orchard in A Garden Setting: There are different fruit and berries for different seasons. In spring time, there are 2 different kinds of cherries and strawberries. In summer there is an abundance of plums, followed by apricots, then yellow and white nectarines, ending with peaches. Blackberries, gold and red raspberries, along with 7 different kinds of table grapes are common in late summer. A couple varieties of apples, pears, and figs herald the arrival of fall, with chocolate and coffee cake persimmons and pomegranates ending the season. Winter is celebrated with Cara Cara oranges, limes, pommelo, grapefruit, tangerines and citron. When the all the citrus trees bloom in late winter, the whole property is perfumed with the most refreshing, soft and sweet smell. A new 3-1 pluot tree has just been planted in 2009, along with a sweet kiwi vine. Please note that due to different weather conditions, fruit yield and harvest time may vary from year to year.

We were visiting Sonoma for a weekend wedding and instead of all renting separate (expensive) hotel rooms, we thought the Amadora house was a great price in a very convenient location. That was enough to get us there, but when we arrived, we were so pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the grounds were (well-kept fruit garden, separate game room, gazebo, hot tub, etc.). The house and the bedrooms were also lovely and well cared for, with lots of little details and amenities (Joe even left us a bottle of wine!) that made it a much better stay than at a hotel! We'll definitely stay again if we come to Sonoma with a group. Joe is also so helpful, sending lots of suggestions and directions ahead of time. Highly recommend!Did you find this review helpful? Hi Joe, We had a fantastic time and very much enjoyed your beautiful home! The beds were so cozy, the kitchen was well supplied and we had everything we needed to make our stay an awesome family time. I couldn't believe how quiet the house was in spite of being so close to a busy intersection. My family really enjoyed the game room and my daughter especially enjoyed the hammock and being able to lay in the warm California sunshine. She is from Denver where it was snowing. Thank you for all the good information you sent. It was all most helpful. The girls that came to clean were very pleasant and got right to work as we were walking out the door. We will definitely recommend your house to all our friends that are going to Sonoma and you will be the first one we contact for our next stay there. Thank you again! Came for a visit, never want to leave. This home has been immaculately maintained to bring out the true beauty of the vintage structure. All the modern amenities, neatly tucked away in a perfect garden hideaway. Joe made certain that everything was taken care of here. Before our trip, he sent tips on the area, places to visit, things to do, and general guidelines. Upon arrival, we were treated to a wonderful bottle of local wine, and a personalized thank you from the owner. There were five of us adults, ages 30-80, with plenty of room to spread out and relax. Sometimes we couldn't even find each other! We did plenty of sightseeing and touring of vineyards and wineries with the help of the Napa Wine Shuttle, plus had our own car for quick trips around town. There was truly nothing left out in the planning and care of this rental. Highly recommend it!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My wife, daughter, two granddaughters, and youngest son stayed at Amadora for a week prior to and just following our other son's wedding to a local Sonoma lass. Our son lives in Sonoma, too, so we know the area quite well. We were very pleased with the house, extra room (billiard room with bathroom/shower & sleeper couch), and gardens. We also had a brother-in-law and his wife for a couple of nights; they are quite discerning and really liked the house as did our new daughter-in-law's parents! Our youngest son (22) stayed in the billiard room and appreciated it greatly. The main house has a very nice kitchen, dining room, living room, sun room (with french doors), three bedrooms, and 1 and 1/2 bathrooms (the latter by one of the rooms). The beds are very comfy! The entire house has wonderful windows that provide beautiful sunlight and open easily for morning cooling. The large porch with chairs was a treat, especially for the girls! The garden is beautiful and fun to wander through; we enjoyed the greenhouse, and the covered seating area with its fountain and chandelier. We also enjoyed sampling fruit from the trees, grapevines, berries and strawberries, as well as the many flowers! Although we did not have the time to enjoy either the hot tub or BBQ, they are very nice and we wish we could have used them. Although about a mile from the Plaza, Amadora is actually well-situated. The biking/walking path to the downtown/Plaza area is nearby and is a very nice walk/ride that takes one past the Vallejo family house (run by State Parks). Driving into town is very easy, especially if one takes Verano east from the house rather than using Hwy 12. (Check a map.) A grocery store, drug store, and Starbucks are nearby (about 1/8 mile away), and restaurants are nearby, too. A park with many walking paths is just across Hwy 12. And the delightful Sonoma wineries to the north are easily accessed on via Hwy 12 or Arnold Drive. (IMHO, Sonoma wines and the Sonoma Valley are better than Napa.) Joe is very well organized and easy to work with; he explains everything and even provided a binder (on the dining room table) that answered every question about the house and gardens. The housekeeper had the house ready and in great shape; the gardener does a fine job, too. Access by foot and vehicle is very good; parking behind large gates is ample for two vehicles and there is parking on-street, too. Thank you very much for everything, Joe! Joe, Thank you very much for opening your home to us. You have a lovely home. The decor was beautiful. We really felt at home there and had a wonderful time. My husband even joked that we should hire you to decorate our home. :) You're lists were extremely helpful. I would love to come back to Amadora for another visit and I will highly recommend your house to everyone I know. Thanks again, KatieDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Truly a gem of a find, we stayed at the beautiful Amadora for the duration of our stint in wine country. A lush sanctuary set in the heart of Sonoma (think perfect location), Joe has welded the all the charm of a vintage bungalow stocked with worldly treasures and heavenly bedding with the added pleasure of a sprawling outdoor living space and garden to rival the likes of Eden. Enclosed by a zen-inspired fence, every inch of this garden oasis is impeccably maintained and entirely private, making it the ultimate retreat to return home to after a day canvassing the wineries. Aptly named Amadora, or "Gift of Love" in Italian, this casa emanates the aesthetic of beauty. Joe left no stone unturned in building his dream (as evidenced by every little detail of the house and grounds) and we are so lucky to have been gifted with a stay here. It truly made our trip. Everyone is still buzzing about it! Added bonus: Joe himself, as a Sonoma local with a generous outlook on life, is an invaluable resource. He goes above and beyond to ensure that your itinerary is a solid one...from providing insider restaurant recommendations to editing winery picks. Thanks again Joe for making it so easy on us! You are great!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad that you had a wonderful time and congratulations on your sister's wedding. Many thanks for the generous comments.

We had a great weekend at the Amadora house this past week. The house is very lovely and very well maintained. We had a group of 6 and had a very comfortable stay. The outdoor area is very nice. We spent a lot of time in the Gazebo and the front porch just relaxing and hanging out. The grill area is great too. Joe is very easy to work with - very responsive and accommodating and made for an easy rental. Thanks for a great stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for staying at Amadora. I am glad that you enjoyed the apples and strawberries as well. Your review is appreciated.

We thoroughly enjoyed this lovely home. We wished we could have spent more time at the house enjoying all it has to offer, but seemed to be on the go most of the time, as we came to attend a wedding. We were able to bbq a couple of meals and take advantage of the outdoor dining area, and my husband and daughter did enjoy lunch on arrival day at the Sunflower Café. We went to Chateau St. Jean, Beringer (picnicked here for lunch with delicious food from the Glen Ellen Market) and Arrowwood ( I think that was the name). We picked a huge bowl of peaches, had peach shortcake one night for dessert, and sliced peaches with breakfast one morning. We even shared with our friends. They were sweet and delicious. I guess that being an over 125 year old tree, the peaches truly improved with age! Our group was comprised of five adults and one child, including myself, my husband, two daughters, a son-in-law and a grandchild. Each one of us was impressed with the charm and personality of the house, and my 2-year old granddaughter said she "loved her vacation" as she danced around the house. She especially enjoyed exploring the garden--I don't think there was a single inch we did not cover together. The new game room with pool table, huge flatscreen TV, comfortable sofas and full bath were great, too. The house was well decorated, clean and meticulously maintained down to every detail. I would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends, and hope to someday come back to enjoy all of its offerings again. As I said, there was nothing not to like about this house. Joe should be proud of the lovely escape he has created. It was hard packing up to return to the "real world". We had a wonderful time, loved the charm and decor of the house, and will be back to enjoy the Jacuzzi, the hammock and the front porch (there just wasn’t enough time) should we ever plan another trip to Sonoma. Thanks again, Joe, for your personal attention and suggestions. We felt as though he truly wanted you to have the best experience possible.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Absolutely loved it! We were the envy of our friends. They were a little disappointed in their hotel room after seeing our house. The kids loved "The Cave" and the yard. It was wonderful to be able to cook without kids in the kitchen-they were all outside. Loved the house and especially the gas range. It reminded me of my grandparents' house years ago. Hope to be able to return next year with couples only.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family and I stayed at Amadora House the week before my wedding. It was absolutely perfect- a little piece of heaven in Sonoma!! We were completely wowed by the beautiful gardens, and the house itself it just perfect. There is even a separate guesthouse with a pool table on the property. We spent many afternoons relaxing outside in the gazebo, reading on the hammock, and enjoying the lovely gardens. The house and surrounding gardens allowed us to relax during a hectic and busy time! The house was in great condition and we had everything we needed. We all highly recommend Amadora house and will definitely stay there again during our next visit to Sonoma. Amadora House is truly a gift of love!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
