The cabin was amazing, the views were awesome! The cabin was well equipped with everything you need. It was a little smaller than I had guessed from the pictures but it was really comfortable. It was in a very cozy setting! The owner was really nice and helpful. Overall, we had an amazing time. Perfect getaway for a couple.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My bf and I made a last minute Big Sur weekend getaway and were so fortunate to come across Little Gem (and manage to get a reservation!). Little Gem is just that. A small, very (COZY) and comfortable gem in a secluded area of northern Big Sur. The attention to detail in the design of the cabin is great. Very clean and neat space, cozy bed, small old pipe stove for an evening fire, lovely little kitchen area with everything you could need to cook, charming bathroom that looks out to the beautiful surroundings, great light, nice outdoor patio, and on site trails that allow you to take mini excursions right on property. Don't miss the trail behind the house that leads up to an intimate little bench that overlooks the hills! This is perfect for a couple or one person looking to get away for a rejuvenating time in Big Sur. We'll definitely be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway

We've been gone for only a week and yet we are already plotting our return to this wonderful little cabin. Brianne has created such a peaceful space with wonderful views. We arrived late at night and the following morning we were so stunned to see the small canyon and beautiful trees as the soft light streamed through the window. The kitchen is fully equipped, though we really only took advantage of the tea kettle. The two trails on the property are short but well thought out. We found that the Little Gem was conveniently located, with easy access to Big Sur. The only disadvantage was a certain road block at night that prevented us from exploring the Esalen hot springs. It was a pleasure to meet Brianne and learn about her enthusiasm for the area. She has tremendous energy and spirit and offered the warm enthusiasm that we were seeking in our getaway from New York City. This spot should be on the top of your list!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Stayed here for a few nights over the New Years. Absolutely great little cabin. The wood stove will more than keep this cabin HOT in the coldest weather. The kitchen and provided accessories are more than enough to make a great meal. The location is both a pro and a con. It isn't IN Big Sur but it's not far from Big Sur. I think it's a great get away and 'base' for day hiking in Big Sur. When you aren't hiking in Big Sur, or grabbing supplies in Carmel you will enjoy the absolute peace and quiet that engulfs this property. Will book again - and hopefully soon!Owner response: Hi, Scott! Thank you so much for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us and loved the cabin! That wood stove sure puts out some heat! I do just want to make one clarification about us not being "in" Big Sur. There are 3 main areas of Big Sur- the Big Sur North Coast, the Big Sur Valley, and the Big Sur South Coast. We are located on the Big Sur North Coast. I am guessing that you are referring to the Big Sur Valley as "Big Sur." That is a very common misperception- it's actually a local joke. This summer I actually went to a local production at the kids' summer camp at the Grange (in the valley) and they did a skit, pretending to be visitors and asking people where "Big Sur" is. Sorry for going off on a tangent! I just wanted to share that because it's such a common misperception. Thank you again for staying with us, and I am so so glad you had a good experience!

I really do feel that I found a "Little Gem" in the center of beautiful Central Coast! From start to finish, my boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay here and we can't wait to return. This cute, charming and cozy little cabin found nestled in the middle of the beautiful serene forest, is clean and well maintained, especially for a cottage in the middle of the wilderness. I found this to be a perfect combo for a girl who loves the outdoors but also appreciates comfy bedding and a good hot shower in a clean clawtub! If you stay here, I believe that you will really feel like you are away from it all. The house is small, but perfectly equiped for two with everything you need to cook a meal. Not too many restaurant choices super close by so my suggestion- bring a homemade lasagna ready to pop in the oven and all the fixings for smores to toast in the fireplace like we did! Although there are three houses on the property to choose from, I think this one is the way to go for two people! I was happy with my choice to stay at the little gem because it is located up on top of the moutain with a bit more sunshine than the larger house just down the mountain and plenty of privacy away from the main house. Your own little patio area is perfect for lunch or your morning coffee as you take in beautiful mountain views covered with pine trees. The best part, no charge for the view of a million stars at night! Wow! What a great place to stay- I didn't want to go home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The Little Gem Cabin is a perfect place for a romantic getaway in the mountains of the Pacific coast. The cabin is clean and well-supplied with everything you need. The owner, Brianna was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. While the cabin is secluded, it is still only a short drive to the sights in Carmel and Monterey, the state beaches along the coast and the attractions in Big Sur. We would definitely recommend the Little Gem Cabin to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay. If we ever find ourselves back in the area, we would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We enjoyed our stay in the area (who wouldn't...what a glorious region) and the Little Gem at Heart Circle Mountain was great. The drive threw the red wood forest was wonderful, the views from the cabin were nice and it was was clean, modern and airy with sunshine. Our only complaint was the size of the bed, which is a full or a queen. My husband and I somehow forgot how old and large we have become in the last decade and thought the queen would be fine. But in fact, we need a King with a sturdy mattress and lots of pillows to rest our stiff bones in! It would of been perfect for one person! Oh and the shower was odd...it was a slippery claw foot bathtub with no ledge to put our shampoo and soap on. But that's a small detail. Otherwise, it was a lovely place to stay for a few days and after the initial thrill of the driveway up, we got use to it and didn't stress about it again. In fact, the whole area (we drove up and down Hwy 1 a lot) is not for the faint of heart when it comes to hairpin turns and heights!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Susie, We really appreciate taking the time for writing a review. I am so glad you loved the area and "got " the grandeur of Big Sur. We feel grateful to have the opportunity to share this paradise with lovely people like yourselves. Feedback from our guests is of great value to us. In our information book on the table we ask our guests to give us any requests, concerns, or needs while staying with us. I regret that you did not see the shower basket containing amenities that go in the shower with you, or the no slip mat along side of the tub. We do have more than the four provided pillows and would have been happy to have brought you more-- we are always happy to provide any extra towels, pillows, or anything else you might need. Transparency is very important to us, so we do clearly state on our site that the bed is a queen sized bed with a Tempurpedic mattress. I know our site has a lot of information, so it easy to overlook the details. I hope you were still able to have a good nights rest-- I know how important that is after a great day of hiking! Kind regards, Brianne

I had a brilliant two nights at Little Gem. The place and surrounding areas are beautiful and would have the short trip to Big Sur worth it on their own. Had some of the most tranquil time I've had. Brianne is an excellent host and will you make you feel at home. The location is ideal with some of the best parks of Big Sur only and short drive away. Would definitely recommend it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm so glad you had a good time here! We love our location on the north coast of Big Sur-- it is some of the most photographed coastline in the world, and, as you mentioned, just minutes away from amazing beaches and hikes. Thank you so much for staying with us! We hope you make the drive back soon!

A wonderful time was had by my wife and I, having come up to Big Sur to celebrtate are 5 year anniversary. The first impressive part of the location was driving on Hwy 1 with the beautiful ocean views, then coming off it onto the road which you find the Little Gem. I never would have imagined such a road, dense with Redwoods, green and lush, and almost a storybook feel. A couple miles in, up the private drive and you find yourself nestled on top of Circel Mountain. The Little Gem cabin pictures are an accurate refelction of the cabin. My wife kept commenting on how well chosen all the furnishings were, and how they added to a wonderful character of the cabin. It was private, comfortable, and just the right size for a sleeping quarters and an end of day retreat. Within short driving distance is the southern part of Big Sur, and north was Carmel, where we enjoyed a nice dinner one evening. Our host Brianne had warmly welcomed us upon our arrival and gave us a briefing on the area and recommendation on Garrapata State Beach, which we later visited and hiked inland off the coast into an incredible green lush environment taking you into a shaded dense tree filled environment, then opening up into the hillside where views of the Pacific Ocean are picturesque. Thank you Brianne for the wonderful Little Gem cabin you created, we absolutely loved it. I would reccomend this property to firneds and relatives, particularly because it puts you in a nice location to benefit from things in the southern part of Big Sur, as well of areas north of it. It was nice to have a secluded retreat to come back to after a good day of hiking and sight seeing. Oh, btw take a hike in the lower trail on the property that drops you into a green lush area of trees and a stream, its worth the little hike, and quite a pleasant tranquil place. The Little Gem was perfectly equipped to handle our need to make some lunches and breakfast too. Lastly, a thanks to Andrew (I think its her son), who was always very timely in email communication and made the reservation process avery easy. Thank you to both of you for sharing the Little Gem and helping make our 5 year anniversary a memorable one.Recommended for: Romantic getaway
Owner response: Thank you for choosing to spend such a special anniversary with us! Thank you also for your wonderful review-- it means so much to us to have our little pieces of paradise appreciated! We have put in a lot of love and work into our home, and it really is all worth it when we get to share it with someone who loves it as much as we do!

This is such a special place! My wife and I needed a beautiful, quiet, calming place to restore ourselves (we have demanding jobs in NYC). Little Gem did just the trick. You can't tell from the pictures just how lovely the Valley View off the side of the cottage really is here. Brianne and Andrew are wonderfully accommodating hosts, and expertly managed the balance between giving us total privacy AND also attending to things we needed along the way. The cottage has a simply elegance and everything an individual or a couple needs to unwind in a cozy, homey locale. It is an easy drive to the heart of Big Sur or Carmel too. If you want to relax and restore when you're not taking advantage of local attractions, then this is the place. Book before we do again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time at Little Gem. The cabin was lovely. It had obviously been designed with care and attention from the wonderful tin (?) tiles in the kitchen to the beautiful blue mosaic on the dining table. The cabin itself was bigger than I'd imagined from the photos and the outside space was beautiful. We took one of the trails - a short 10 min walk up to lovely views. A highlight was having coffee out on the deck and watching blue jays and butterflies as the sun moved across the land. Brianna and Andrew were lovely and really helpful. I would definitely recommend visiting Heart Circle Mountain and would love to return for another visit!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin looks over the mountainside - incredible view. We really enjoyed climbing the trail up the mountain, and the little surprise at the end. Really comfortable bed, and very well-maintained property. Location is unbeatable, between the Big Sur parks and Carmel/Monterey. Would stay again if we are in the area.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was the second time we stayed here for our anniversary. Very secluded, clean, cute little cottage with outstanding mountain views. Other than finding a few spiders in the room, including the bed (we've a thing about spiders!), it was a pleasant stay. Rocky Point restaurant had great views, food and service but be prepared for a stiff bill. The Sardine Factory in Monterey was exemplary in food and service and even less costly than Rocky Point. One of our perennial favorites was Deetjens, just south on highway 1, for food and atmosphere. It's like a village unto itself, very rustic and quaint. Going further down to Lucia, we visited the Camaldoli Hermitage retreat then lunched at the Lucia Lodge restaurant...great views and food!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm so glad you came back and had a great time with us! We look forward to your third visit! P.S. On your third stay, we'll make sure Charlotte is hanging out with Wilbur in the shed!

From the beautiful road that twists up through fern-studded redwoods to the incredible quiet of the lovely, hill-set cottage, we loved every moment of our stay in Little Gem. Though small, this cottage is beautifully laid out and comfortable, with a working kitchen and very comfortable bed--it truly is a gem. We also appreciated how easy it was to rent--the owners are kind, helpful, and responsive. My boyfriend and I just went up to visit Carmel & Big Sur before the Christmas holidays and LOVED the Little Gem Cabin. Brianne (the property manager) was so helpful and sweet and the actual space was just what we needed for the two of us. We had a blast giving the wood burning stove our best shot while cooking dinner in the kitchenette then playing cards late into the night while listening to music on the ipod dock. The bathroom was gorgeous and the views of the canyon were breathtaking. I know we will have to return to the Little Gem one day and would definitely recommend this spot to others!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My girlfriend (now fiance after our weekend in Big Sur) absolutely loved the Little Gem. It was so nice to get out of the cramped concrete city of LA and escape for the weekend amongst the redwoods. We couldn't have picked a more peaceful place. We live close to the ocean in LA and really wanted to escape to the redwood forest. Yes, Big Sur is known for its scenic coastline, but the forest is just as beautiful. The short hiking trails on the property were a great plus and one led to a beautiful grove of redwoods. The cabin itself is nicely appointed and has everything you need for making meals and relaxing on the deck. The memory foam mattress was a great plus. Although you are close to the main house, we never saw the owners until 5 minutes before we were checking out. Even so, Brianne is the one of the nicest ladies on the planet and we loved talking with her and the two dogs. If we could afford it, we would escape here every weekend. It will always hold a special place in our hearts.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This beautiful, quaint little cabin was perfect for me to be by myself, relax, hike, write and inhale the clean fresh air. It is quiet, safe, and high up the mountainside so the fog burns off early. The birds sang me awake each morning and sitting outside with a glass of wine in the afternoon was a delight. Heart Circle Mountain would be a perfect place for a ladies retreat and I bet Brianne would lead a yoga practice, too.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Had a marvelous & reflective 2 nights at the Little Gem cabin. The unit itself is so tastefully appointed and had everything (except a microwave) that I needed. It is perfect for 1 or 2 people. I had privacy and time on my own, and was not bothered by anyone. The views all around are so tranquil and the dark & quiet of night are a wonderful counterpart to the daytime exploration around Big Sur. The 2 easy, short walking trails are a nice diversion and provide just enough of that sort of thing to tease. The back deck at Little Gem was wonderful - a great sitting spot in lightness or darkness overlooking nature, birds, green, fog, etc. Brianne and team were wonderful to deal with, and her check-in easy, casual & informative. I especially loved how nice she keeps the Little Gem ( and presumably all 3 units - I did get a peek at the equally charming Zen) - it is very well decorated and felt like a home away from home. There are windows in Little Gem on each of the 4 walls bringing much light, sun or moon or fog, into the space. If you're looking for some peace & quiet, plus privacy, out in nature but don't want to get to rustic or rough it at all, then this is the place. Be sure to bring some foodies & beverages as it is a drive to anything and quite convenient to have your own stuff on hand for late nights and mornings. All in all, nearly perfect as it can be and I will return for sure!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I stay in a lot of hotels as a business traveler, so I've been drawn to private accommodations that are standalone private units. Also, these days, there aren't enough differences in the quality of a $100 hotel versus a $250 one. So when I researched places to stay in Big Sur, I searched long and hard for a secluded retreat. Heart Circle Mountain fulfilled my requirements and then some. Three retreats are available. We stayed in Little Gem, a cross between a cottage and a cabin perched on a hilltop overlooking lush green vistas. Little Gem is about 600 square feet with a patio in the back furnished with two comfy outdoor chairs and a little table. We spent some good hours with our drinks, some chatty bluebirds, and those rolling green vistas before us. Inside, Little Gem holds the most comfortable bed ever, a little dining area with a skylight view of the redwoods, a stocked kitchenette, a wood-burning stove and -- through French doors, a lovely little bathroom with the deepest tub I've ever soaked in. There are windows throughout the place, which makes it feel bigger than it is and provides constant breathtaking views at all times of the day. Brianne, who owns the 36-acre property is one of the loveliest hostesses ever. She is extremely gracious, emanates great energy, and will do whatever it takes to make your stay comfortable. We are definitely coming back here.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for staying with us! We loved having you! I am so glad you enjoyed your time in the Little Gem Cabin. I rented the little gem cabin for the weekend as a getaway for my fiancee's 30th birthday. I have to say that it was an incredible place to stay! If you're looking to get away and have magnificent vistas everywhere you turn this is the place to go! The Little Gem is situated on a mountain and when you look out your window you see the gorgeous forest surrounding you! It's an amazing view to wake up to. The rentals are situated on private property with their own incredible hikes. We did a couple of hikes that led to a beautiful waterfall amongst the redwood trees. They keep everything immaculate and we had everything we needed within the little gem (kitchenette with everything you need to cook or bake, dining area, queen sized memory foam mattress, wood burning stove for the couples on romantic getaways, and a beautiful bathroom with relaxing tub). The only thing I would point out that may be a problem in this technological world is the fact that there is no cell reception in this area until you exit the city. They do provide free WIFI and landline access in front of the main house (there is no wifi or cell phone service in the cabin). We can't live without internet access and when we're in our pjs we found this to be a slight inconvenience. The owners were very nice and made sure we had all the information we needed about surrounding hikes, cities, and things to do. We definitely plan to come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The property is beautiful and the location is perfect, halfway between Big Sur and Carmel. We stayed in The Little Gem, a cozy little cottage. My boyfriend and I had never been to big sur before and we knew we wanted to stay in a vacation rental. I was so happy to find Heart Circle Mountain. We stayed in the Little Gem which was perfect for the two of us. The only issue was the double bed...he and I are used to a queen. But the space with all of it's windows is amazing and my bath in the claw foot tub was to die for. We went into Carmel for dinner the first night and Brianne helped us get a last minute reservation which was great. The next day we spent the day hiking in the national park. I highly recommend the property and can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed in the Little Gem and it was so peaceful and quiet--we spent a lot of time on the deck overlooking the mountain, with the redwood grove on our left, listening to the birds. After a while a deer moseyed down the path, stopping to graze every once in a while. When it got dark I went inside and took a long relaxing bath in the wonderful deep old fashioned tub, and then helped myself to the gourmet chocolates thoughtfully left for us. The place is full of little touches that the owners don't mention: the beginning of the Zen Trail, which is right outside the Little Gem cottage, is filled with rosemary and lavender and sage plants. What was absolutely wonderful about staying at the Heartcircle ranch is how private it is--we were a little worried because it's quite close to the owner's house, but it was totally quiet and private. Driving up to the house is a gorgeous (but slightly harrowing) drive. Andrew was incredibly nice, got us an alarm clock, gave us all sorts of hiking tips.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My boyfriend and I went down to Big Sur for Memorial Day weekend and we have a wonderful and relaxing time! We drove down Palo Colorado and thought we had taken a wrong turn at first, but when we rounded the corner and went up the drive way to Heart Circle we knew we had come to the right place! Heart Circle was beautifully set in the sunshine, above the hills with fantastic views of the ocean and the surround green hills. Very calm, quiet and serene and all we heard when we woke up in the morning with the birds singing in the trees. I would definitely recommend coming to Heart Circle and we want to come back!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Dear Brianne, You have restored the Little Gem with love in each detail. Yours is a very special place, and you have some kind of sixth sense about how to make your guests feel at home. Your hospitality and kindness added to our special weekend. Thank you so much, Sue and JerryRecommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a fantastic stay at the Valley View Cabin this November. I can't believe we got so lucky and I can't believe this place isn't booked up all of the time! We were looking for a nature-centered relaxing cabin vacation, and this was it. Brianne gave us advice about where to go for the best hikes, the best sunsets, and the best food, all of which we took advantage of. She was also nice enough to stock our cabin with coffee and an assortment of teas for the mornings when the sun was coming up (my favorite part of the day to sit on the porch and listen to the birds). We had originally been concerned about safety (being city folk), but the Valley View cabin is close enough to Brianne's home that we can see her house from the cabin, so we always felt safe. And on top of that, Brianne made us feel so welcomed. We had originally been considering staying at one of the many cabins for rent in the campgrounds around Big Sur, but we're so glad we didn't -- when we drove through the campgrounds on the way to our hikes it was clear how close they all were to the highway and to each other. Heart Circle Mountain retreat was perfect, and the hikes at the nearby Garrapata and Andrew Molera and Pfeiffer parks were breathtaking. Rave reviews all around. We can't wait to go back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin - the owners have done a spectacular job remodeling the interior, including a modern clawfoot tub. The owners are super nice and unintrusive, but are around if you need anything. The hot tub is unchlorinated and has a lovely view of the night sky and canyon, the yoga studio is amazing (sadly, I didn't get a chance to use it) and there are some nice private hiking trails on the property. You're up on a hill in the forest away from everything, yet it's convenient enough to drive down to Big Sur or up to Carmel/Monterey for dinner. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you for your hospitality!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

It's always refreshing to book a vacation rental where the owner is helpful and outgoing. My girlfriend and I had an absolute wonderful time at the Little Gem Cabin. The drive up the mountain was very entertaining and it was perfect distance from Carmel and nearby parks. This is an excellent place to spend some vacation time away from work!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
