My husband and I had a great time and enjoyed our stayed at South Kona Coffee Estate. The cottage surroundings by Tropical fruit trees and Coffee trees. The hosts Brad and Linda are very kind and remarkable. We arrived at late night after a long trip and did not take much notice of anything and went to sleep in the very comfortable bed. When we woke up the next morning, we could admire the sheer beauty of the Ocean View and Birds Chatting...,The cottage have everything that we needed, the welcoming basket of treats that waited for us (including delicious kona coffee, Papaya,Banana,Raw Macadamia nuts from the farm). To make a long story short: we had the feeling, we had arrived in paradise and this cannot get any better..... We decided and promised to come back and can hardly wait to do so.

Thank you Brad and Linda for your warm hospitality. We only stayed 6 days and that was definitely not enough time. Our room was comfortable, spacious, clean and stocked with everything we needed and a few extras. Your coffee is heavenly and the fresh fruits were delicious and much appreciated. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for something different from the hustle and bustle or the cookie cutter condos. The separate bathroom takes a little getting used to but it's not really inconvenient at all. The outdoor kitchen was very handy and a great way to avoid eating out for every meal. We cooked breakfast and dinner several times. The other rental cottage is fairly close so bring a robe if you are shy. We feel like we were very warmly welcomed and treated and couldn't have asked for anything more. Linda, we so enjoyed the dinner party and your food was delicious. Thank you so much for everything. We appreciate what you have envisioned and wish you much success. We'll be back as soon as we can. With Warm Mahalo- Kim and Dan

We stayed here as part of my birthday holiday. When we did leave we felt absolutely lost, as though we'd lost our home! We loved our little cabin and outdoor kitchen that was nestled in amongst the macadamia trees. We became addicted to Brad & Linda's coffee that was provided during our stay. Being able to eat fresh macadamia nuts and papaya that was grown right there on the property was pretty amazing. Brad and Linda are super lovely, and they made us feel as though we were staying with friends. I would suggest this spot for anyone that appreciates something unique and down-to-earth, and for those seeking a bit of real Hawaii. It's a wonderful place!

We arrived in the evening as the suns last glow faded,we were bushed from the flight so we just settled in.We awoke with the gentle breezes blowing in our window and the birds singing to us to get up .There was Kona coffee, fresh fruit and Macadamia nuts to be cracked.my first breakfast was cereal with fresh cracked macadamia nuts, fresh baby banana's and fresh brewed Kona coffee, wow talk about a great way to wake up.First day was spent driving to the close by town of Kailua(close by Island standards,30 miles)you don't mind the drive since there are so many beautiful sights to see,its sometime hard to chose where to stop.Brad and Linda's place is a great jumping off spot to go to all the Islands sights,I know because I drove around the Island 3 and half times a little under 2700 miles,we had a jeep 4 wheel drive so we hit the spots regular vehicles could not go.The Kona side is dryer than the Hilo side,so not as much rain and no mosquitoes to speak of.Where would I suggest you go,every where you can if you have enough time to go(we had 30 days and that went by to quickly)But the North Coast is very nice with a couple of nice snokeling beaches and area's that should be visited.I suggest the Bontanical gardens by Omea,Hilo side, but get there in the morning, when they open better photo's that time of day.North of Omea is Waipio Valley, but you need four wheel drive,it looks daunting, but is not as bad as it looks. There is also tours that will take you down into the valley.Volcano Park is also something to see, please make sure you tour the Chain Crater's road, lot's of sight's to see,but drive it to the end first, then view the other sights on the way back,do it in the morning before it gets crowded. Please make sure you take a camera, with an extra battery pack always something to take a picture of,I took over 1200 pictures and that's after deleting the bad ones.Ok enough boring you with my chatter, let me talk about your hosts and the property.Brad and Linda are two of the nicest people I have met in my 64 years on this earth, they are exceedingly helpful and gracious hosts. If we wanted more fruit, they would pick it(yep grows right on the property)more Kona coffee no problem, suggestions about where to dine, always .Fresh towels, bedding, tea lights, water and any other thing you might need. They even had a guest party,it was my wife's B-day ,they bought her a cake,She was over joyed.Ohana is family,we felt we were.Brad and Linda Mahalo Nui Loa,You are in our hearts forever

This was the best vacation ever. Brad and Linda made us feel more like close family member's than guests. Our room was very clean and comfortable; and had everything that we needed. We cooked and ate most of our meals on the lanai. When we needed room to store extra food, they let us use their personal freezer. Their home grown Kona coffee, fruits and nuts were always in plentiful supply. The location was perfect for sight-seeing on the big island. We were able to make 4 one day trips to the other side and back.

We just came back from our seven day stay at Tropical Hideaway. The location is in a nice quiet area of Captain Cook away from the Touristy area of the island,A very pleasant experience. We were especially impressed with the reservation process, the welcoming reception on arrival and the continuing help offered by Brad during our stay. The Cottage is very clean and have everything we needed. The bed is comfortable! We woke every morning to fresh Strawberry Papayas picked right from the tree - we've never had Papayas this good before - and fresh Kona coffee provided in our gift basket. Brad is very friendly and extremely helpful. We would return to this property and recommend it to other couples.
Owner response:These were guests that would leave early returning late, using their fourteen days to experience many of the adventures and magic the Big Island offers. While unfortunate we didnt spend time with them, we are always happy when our guests truly enjoy themselves. We hope to host them again!

I would like to start with saying that this is a perfect place to relax & fall in love again. The place is very clean, quiet, peace. The bed is really COMFORTABLE!!! There are two Cottages and each room have their own private bathroom surrounding by coffee and banana, papaya and Macadamia nut trees (which is very Tropical). The out door kitchen have everything you need. Brad and Linda have made this a wonder land of a slice of real Hawaii and truly HEAVEN!!! We do believe that anyone staying here will not regret it!
Owner response:We are glad our guests recognize our goal of providing a plush and comfy queen sized bed in an clean environment, sounds basic but not easily found in an tropical environment. Serving as a base to the many activities of the island paradise. Through the years we have added many amenities to add to the overall experience while not raising rates. Our greatest satisfaction is seeing our guests transform and recharge from the day they arrive until they depart to a healthier appearance and receiving their gratitude for a pleasant vacation. We loved having Britney and Greg here, truly excellent people!!

My boyfriend and I just returned from an 11 night stay with Brad and Linda. It was one of the best vacations we've ever had. Brad and Linda really bring the aloha spirit. They are warm, welcoming, genuine and truly helpful people. Brad offered us a ton of vacation advice and guidance... even prior to our stay with them. I was always e-mailing him asking for input and he was super responsive and very helpful. South Kona Coffee is beautiful!! The cottage is very nice as well and has everything you'll need. It's open air with hardwood floors. There are two cottages on the grounds, and each have their own bathroom (I didn't realize this until halfway through our stay! The bathroom is not shared.). Each room has: small fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker (with sugar) plus a cooler, beach mats, beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. The shared kitchen has everything you'd need for simple meals (grill with a burner, plates, utensils, salt pepper...). I'm being specific because this was all stuff I wondered prior to our stay. The open air kitchen is wonderful. While we didn't actually cook out there, I LOVED the space and enjoyed hanging outside cracking fresh macadamia nuts! There lots of fresh pineapple, avocado, and papaya to eat. We also got fresh lemons and jackfruit (which was a real treat!!). The beds REALLY ARE amazingly comfortable. I haven't slept so well in months, maybe even years. Being in the "jungle" lets you fall asleep to crickets and frogs at night (but they are not annoying... more like awesome, live white noise). In the morning you hear lovely birds. Plus, there was wonderful night blooming jasmin outside our room. It was heaven. I'm already sleeping poorly again being back home! :) I will say, that this is a lot more rustic than I imagined. There are A LOT of bugs! Bugs in the bathroom, bugs in the bedroom. It's not horrible, but it was a surprise to me. There's also wonderfully cute gecko's that live on the property. Make your bed in the morning because they'll poop on your sheets! :) I loved the gecko's so much, I ended up getting a tattoo of one to memorialize our vacation. Your hosts also ask that you conserve water and shut the shower off when you're soaping up. (A small bummer, but not a dealbreaker.) The bottom line is Brad and Linda have a WONDERFUL eco-retreat. It's am amazing price and a wonderful place to stay. Do yourself a favor and stay at South Kona Coffee. You won't be sorry
Owner response:Kelly and Tim exemplified our ideal guests embracing the freshly harvested organically grown kona coffee, macadamia nuts, avocadoes, mangos, pineapples, papayas, banana. They had an opportunity to sample some exotic fruits like sour sop, jackfruit and lycee. From early morning until late at night they seemed to not to want to miss a thing. From waking up to swim with dolphins to driving to the observatory , they experienced much of the magic the Big Island offers. Was truly a pleasure hosting such an adventuous couple. We hope to see them again as much of our guests return, some many times. For which we consider the highest form of flattery. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic stay at the coffee plantation. The room was nice and secluded with a little kitchen area outside and a great jungle treehouse feel to it. Brad and Linda even left us coffee and mac nuts every morning. We took a short walk down the hill and went snorkelling too. While we were there a small tour boat arrived with divers. So we basically had access to an out of the way dive/snorkelling spot as well. It was awesome! It's a rare day we get out to HI, but we are looking forward to staying here again.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our 14-day stay here. The cottage is very private and quiet. We particularly liked that the elevation here means we didn’t need air conditioning but were always comfortable. The cottage had everything we needed during our stay including resident geckos who were more entertaining than TV. Woke up every morning with Fresh Kona Coffee and Fresh babanas, papayas, pineapple which was a nice treat. Everything was delicious and sweet! Brad and Linda were wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay special. We appreciated the recommendations on places to visit and where to eat. We liked Keei Cafe for a great Super fresh Fish ( butter fish, Tuna, Ono). Pepper Roni for great pizza and Mi’s Italian Bistro for a splurge on our last night. The location is convenient. We were comfortably able to drive to the north coast, Hilo and the active lava flow on the east side of the volcano (a highlight) on day trips. We particularly enjoyed snorkeling at Two-Step and the Captain Cook Monument – the latter visited first on a Sea Quest boat trip (very worthwhile) and then by hiking down the trail. Allow an hour each way for the hike and take plenty of water. It’s hot and fairly steep, but the snorkeling at the bottom is great. We would certainly be more than happy to return here to continue exploring the island and would not hesitate to recommend it.

It's hard to describe such a wonderful time at Brad & Linda's place that not only was it hard to leave, every time I remember staying there it's challenging to come back to real life! Basics: There were two of us, my wife and I, and we both enjoy outdoor and water activities, and were looking for a place to base ourselves so we could relax after many hours of activities and Brad was a wonderful in speaking to us and guiding our activities. We cooked and everything we needed was already there in terms of cookware and cutlery. In the mornings we had the best coffee, strawberry papayas and apple bananas from the farm. It was so good! This place is about 40-45 mins from the airport Kona and is in a rural area, so if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city this would be the place for you. That said, with the closeness of terrific snorkeling and kayaking nearby at Captain Cook and Two step, you could spend a few days within 5-10 minutes driving to swim with turtles, kayak with spinner dolphins, see beautiful reefs and fish. Between if you're going to Volcano(1.5 hours away) and you're really into hiking...check out the all day hiking trail route to Pu'u O'o volcano described in the Ultimate Kona guidebook, we didn't go further to see another side (Hilo) but wished we had more time to. This was our first time in Kona and Hawaii and whenever we travel, we always say we will not go to the same place twice. However, after staying at this place, my wife and I both agreed we would have to come back. We recommend The South Kona Coffee Estate to all adventurers and lovers of life!!

My sweetie & I had a wonderful stay over the Christmas break. We felt right at home - cooking meals, harvesting all the delicious papayas we could eat from the trees, exploring the surrounding beaches, and relaxing in our comfy cottage. The hosts were very welcoming and thought of many nice details from a welcome treat on our bed to candles in the evening. Brad & Linda are very welcoming, warm and gracious. The location is gorgeous & private with an ocean view and challenging hike to the beach (bring lots of water!) with a beautiful arch. We learned to crack fresh macadamia nuts and enjoyed fresh fruit, raw honey and fresh coffee daily. They were very helpful in suggesting places to see and things to do. If you want a true Hawaiian experience this is the place to stay. We loved the smell of the garden and plants. The weather is so perfect no glass is needed on the windows - just screens. You need to stock up on food etc because there's nothing closeby except beautiful views and beaches. It's not far to South Point (Green Sands Beach) and Kailua Kona. We will definitely be back!

This property was represented very accurately. It was a true getaway...cell phones/wireless cards were very sketchy but it was a perfect Hawaiian experience. The bungalow and bathhouse were extremely clean and well kept and the owner left fruit in our room daily. The shower water was a little bit of an issue as the hot water was not regulated. This is an open-air room and really added to the charm of being in paradise. If you're looking to really get away from things, this is the place to go. Brad and Linda were very accomodating and a wealth of knowledge on island sight-seeing. Choice Mart in Captain Cook is a GREAT grocery and came in handy for packing lunches for daily excursions.
