Terrible beds, worse pillows(3" foam blobs). Cheapest linens money can buy. Kitchen cupboards sticky and disgusting to the touch when opening(no handles). Sofas in living area must be 20 years old and probably never professionally cleaned. Bathrooms with one basin, very little ventilation, badly maintained. Expect to be awakened everyday at 4:30am by roosters. Property 'manager' less than helpful. I would recommend this property to someone who I dislike.

Owner response: About 9 years ago, my wife and I built our two Hawaiian beach houses in Hanalei because we liked coming here and may also want to retire here some day. Since then we have also been offering them as vacation rentals. We have about 270 people per year stay with us and have never had any complaints about our "terrible beds and pillows", "disgusting kitchen cupboards" or our "little ventilated and poorly maintained" bathrooms. Our homes are concienciously managed by a local woman, who is available on site to help with any questions or concerns about the homes or the North Shore area in general. We're sorry that this particular vacation renter did not have the positive experience that has been there for all of the others.

We stayed at the big house last December and loved the house. Very nice decorations, everything you needed was stocked. The deck on the 2nd floor was perfect for watching the sunset and the big mountain in the background (even the waterfalls were visible). It was only a short walk to the beach or a short drive up to the end of the road. The house was well ventilated with fans and we were very comfortable in the lower rooms. We can't wait to stay there again!

We have stayed at both the smaller house and larger main house twice. The listing and photos accurately describe this beautiful property. We found the property to be immaculate and the amenities everything we expected. We loved the tongue in groove woodwork used through out the house. In combination with the ceiling fans and and numerous windows, the house had a light and airy true Hawaiian feel. The owners were very accomodating. The property manager introduced herself the first day and provided flower bouquets she personally made. We liked the house and her so much, we asked her to come back and say"aloha". The wrap around veranda provides a wonderful view of the jagged mountains, and waterfalls in season. Five minutes walk to the beach and five minutes to quaint Hanalei. There you will find good restaruants and pubs,, little shops, a farmers' market, the Big Save grocery store, and the Tahiti Nui Pub, social home for both locals and tourists. What's not to like?!

Our family plans to return to Ileina's Hanalei House next year. We found every thing as advertised and were happily surprised by the many amenities not expected in a rental. The central location is plus, easy walk to everything. I guess my only minor complaint is the neighbor's chicken which has a bad attitude. The property manager dropped by (with a gift of fresh flowers) to see if we had any problems, questions, etc.

Our family had a great time in your spacious, comfortable house! It was great to be in close walking distance to Hanalei Bay and the town. We swam every day and went to yoga a number of times, and after a week here we're not ready to go back home. I can't imagine a more beautiful place to vacation, and your house was the perfect place to stay. We would love to come back!

This house was the perfect place for us to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. I only feel bad that I forgot to write a review at the time! This trip was more the "romantic getaway" trip, but this house would also be PERFECT for kids! We stayed in the "house"--there is a matching "cottage" on the property as well (we referred our friends to the cottage--in fact, they are there today and LOVE it!!!). This house is in the PERFECT location: a 5 minute walk from town in one direction, and a 5 minute walk to the beach in the other direction! We had a rental car, but didn't even need it every day. You can literally walk in just a few minutes to the grocery store or several restaurants. The house is just across the street from an outstanding beach! Hanalei Bay beach is great--the water was warm, the sand was ample, and the crowds were sparse. There are waves breaking in some areas, while other parts of the bay don't have any waves at all. It was an OUTSTANDING beach to read, to take long walks or runs, or to swim. We were amazed that, although there were always other people on the beach, it was NEVER crowded--even on the weekend when there was a local youth surfing competition at the other end of the bay. The house had everything we needed--the bed was comfortable, the kitchen was great, and the deck was an outstanding place to hang out morning or night. We will be back again this August, and intend to rent this property many, many times in the future--both alone and with our kids, and hopefully (in a few years yet) with our kids and THEIR kids!!

During the past 7 years, I have traveled to Hanalei for vacation. The first several years I stayed in the cottage and the past 3 years, I stayed in the Main House. I found the owner and property manager very accommodating. Both properties were meticulously maintained and I loved the Hawaiian feel. The Main House has a large veranda that wraps around the house. I spent hours staring at the beautiful scenery and even saw waterfalls. The properties are well stocked with lovely hawaiian bedding and the kitchen was complete with everything I required. I would recommend either property to anyone who wants to stay in a great house or cottage.

Another great visit with our best friends in all the world. And we're already looking forward to coming back again for a FOURTH time! (see Jan 2009) Wonderful paddling up the Hanalei and Kalihiwai Rivers. Great times at the beach and Kilauea Lighthouse. Be sure to try the tapas at BarAcuda!

Aloha and Mahalo for letting us stay in your beautiful and relaxing house for our 8 days in Kauai! The view is marvelous, the beach is amazing and the town is a wonderful place for shopping and hanging out. We can totally understand why the Hawaiian Islands are a big tourist attraction. Hawaii's just so pretty. We had a really great time here and hope to come again soon!

What a magical place this island is! Thank you for your beautiful home. It was so relaxing and comfortable after our outings. Our family has never seen such natural beauty. Land, sea, and even the winds are superb. When we recollect our trip for years to come we will inhale and smile. The world speaks this islands' praises and now we do too. Such beauty. Such fun.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful house with us. We have had so much fun especially since my sister and her family are staying in the cottage in front. We celebrated birthdays and anniversaries (Pinetrees 2004). Tons of memories were made - we love the farmers' market, beaches, swimming, playing movie (Soul Surfer) in the park, family game night, the annual luau at the hanalei canoe club, my husband got to dirt bike for a day, the fern grotto, shop and much much more.
