This historic cabin was originally built as a fishing retreat decades ago, and has morphed a number of times since then. In the 70’s it was Little Rainbow, the workshop of our local silversmith. After that, it became a private residence, and later, a trendy coffee house, named The Cabin. The Cabin later became The Buckaroo, also a coffee house / burger joint. The ‘Buckaroo” iron horse and cowboy still rest on the front porch.
The rustic old building has now been renovated and is again a Sequoia river retreat. The old charm remains, but indoors, you will enjoy the bright, comfortable interior and the spectacular view through the French doors. The Main Fork of the Kaweah River runs just beyond the back deck, and is strong and beautiful any season of the year.

Unique little cabin on the river

My husband and I rented this cabin for a long weekend over NYE and enjoyed our stay, for the most part. This was our first NYE since our wedding and our plan was to find a cute little place somewhere close to snowshoeing with a hot tub to enjoy after. Biggest disappointment was that the house does not have a large enough hot water heater to fill the adorably gorgeous, non-chlorine tub. This was the main reason we rented the place and it was quite a bummer. We talked to Sharon (owner), and followed her various suggestions, and even tried boiling water to get the tub hot but on a cold afternoon or night there was not chance, water was chilly, not even warm. They did compensate us for the inconvenience and I believe they planned to fix this. If you are renting and care about the tub I'd just recommend that you confirm with them that they've taken care of it. other Cons: one side is the river, but the other/front of the house is right on the highway--not too busy, but still involved a regular stream of cars flying by very fast, was nervous about the dog and would be nervous with small children; the pots and pans were really old & non-stick coating was peeling off in the food; the place was a bit infected with ants; bathroom had a plug-in heater--was cold most of the time; walls or door enclosing the bed, so if you are planning to use the futon you might like to know that this is technically a large studio, not a one bedroom, so no privacy between the bed and futon; the internet connection is borrowed from the cafe next door and therefore fairly weak. Pros: unique, cute little cabin, right on the river; allowed us to bring out little dog and has a nice big yard right on the river to play in; well stocked; Sharon (the owner) was helpful and responsive (including when we locked the key in the house b/c it is on a ridiculous giant piece of wood, which was hard to carry around); about an hour from snowshoeing, might be nice to be closer but not too far from the park entrance and I know there are hotels closer but not sure about rentals. Three Rivers is really just a few places along the highway. There are some fairly descent places to eat, a friendly grocery store with some natural foods. Kind of a funky little stop along the road. Overall, if the tub is working, I would certainly recommend to a friend (and actually already have done so) , might even return myself, though we would probably be more inclined to explore other options.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Ziska, Thank you for spending that special New Year holiday with us at the River Cabin, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was not aware you had a problem with the Jacuzzi until you had departed, and was then happy to offer compensation. Managing the hot water is a little tricky, but easily remedied with a new water heater, which is soon to be installed. The River Cabin is described on vrbo as "split level" and with an "open floor plan", which it is, and it works great for one couple or a family with a child. It is not meant for more. I know that fry pan you speak of~~out it goes.

We stayed 5 nights and really enjoyed our time spent at this cute cabin with all the amenities needed. Backed up to the river, had a nice private patio deck, large yard and great jacuzzi tub on the back deck to enjoy. Convenient to the entrance to the National Park.... we did not know about the construction going on after the entrance....didn't keep us from going the mountain everyday. Just had to leave earlier than expected and plan accordingly. Very nice owners and great communication with us....showed us the cabin and we had all the privacy we needed.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This house was perfect. Everything worked perfectly. The yard is gigantic and beautiful with the river right there. The bed was very comfortable. The Owners are so nice, and comfortable to be around. They showed me the place, then I had complete privacy. I love that I could bring my dog too. There are lots of things to enjoy in three rivers if you can break away from the views right at cabin. I cooked all my own food, and enjoyed relaxing in hot tub. IIt doesn't get any better than this. It's worth the 4-4 1/2 hour drive from the bay area. I will return again and again. I have recommended this to many friends already.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is one of the best trips we have ever taken! It was so nice and peaceful. My girlfriend and I loved staying at the River Cabin! I liked how it was so close to the river. We listened to the river as we sat on the porch and enjoyed a glass of wine and other various meals. We had also made friends with a big white duck (which we later named Larry) who would greet us anytime we came out back. The nature surrounding is breath taking! Dan and Sharon are such great hosts that make you feel very welcome. One night they cooked us a delicious meal which included: Dan's amazing homemade lasagna, with Sharon's refreshing salad. For desert, Sharon had made this mouth watering apple tart with fresh homemade vanilla icecream! We had also went to the National Park and found it to be snowing when we arrived near the top. We got a lot of great pictures and memories; we can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the river cabin for two night and had such a blast! The cozy cabin was the perfect place to getaway and have some relaxing time. The river provided such a great setting for breakfast and to hear it rushing throughout the day was so peaceful. The cabin is conveinently located near shops and a gas station. It is also only about a mile from the entrance of Sequoia National Park. The drive is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking. Once returning to the River Cabin after a long day at the park, you have the option of making a homecooked meal or treating yourself to a restaurant. Dan & Sharon keep up the cabin extremely well and provide many amentities. It felt just like home- but better! :) we can not wait to go back and enjoy our stay again at the Sequoia River Cabin!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I came to the cabin with our two boys (2 and 4). Such a cute little place and very sweet owners who had the best cookies :) The cabin had everything in the kitchen, to include wine glasses and spices. even shampoo, conditioner, soap and a blow dryer! cute set up, awesome fire place to keep our cabin warm, as it was mid January. The Cabin was right on the river and we made a friend with a duck that hung out the whole weekend. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure and the outside jacuzzi was really cool, however just too small.. I would definitely recommend this place to travelers wanting to get away from the city. Thanks to Sharon and Dan!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
