This was the best place we have stayed at in York. It is a walk to the beach which is near the bathhouse and a store. It is clean, roomy, and even has air condition for those extra muggy evenings. Long Sands is the best beach in southern Maine and very family friendly. Linda was so helpful and was right on with the description of the cottage and all it has to offer. Some of the activities we enjoyed this year was the York Cliff Walk, Saco Water Park, Maine Diner, and Roberts in Kittery. Best of all lobsters were so cheap we brought a bunch home! We are looking forward to next year at the "little cottage in the woods" (but not so little) for sure! Thanks for a great vacation!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: I am thrilled that the cottage was all that you expected it to be. I think we have all had, at one time or another, great expectations and have been sadly disappointed upon arrival. It makes me happy that you and your family enjoyed your time at the cottage and I thank you for the kind words and for visiting. Warm regards, Linda

This cottage was awesome and perfect for a family and two dogs. The moment you walk in the cottage feels like home. The setting was also very nice and relaxing. Its at the end of the road with very little traffic in a quiet neighborhood. The walk to the beach is very short. While visiting we took a trip to the zoo and amusement park and the KIDS loved it. So many scenic views and great places to definitely come back for!Owner response: I love that our cottage made you and you family feel at home and your visit to York was memorable. It is nice to hear that we had a part in your happy vacation memories and we look forward to having you visit again. Warm Regards,Linda

The cottage is a fabulous place to stay for relaxing and enjoying your family as well as the beach. We have a 15 month old and a six year old labradoodle, and all of the accommodations were available to meet their needs. The cottage was completely pet and child proofed. The owner was very friendly and available if needed. We loved our visit to York, Maine! Thank You:-) Hubbardston, MAOwner response: I will never get tired of hearing how our guests enjoy their vist to York and love that our home helped to make the vacation a memorable time. I am happy your family was comfortable and I thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. Wishing you many more happy vacations! Warm Regards, Linda

This is a great find - clean and completely updated, with all the comforts of home. Having a washer dryer was a plus, and the wagon helped to haul the cooler to the beach. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and although we didn't use all the pull out options, its nice to see you could still move around if you had to use them - hate rentals that say sleep 8 but no one can move! Loved having morining coffee at the bar overlooking the back yard - so peaceful and serene. The place has a great feel to it....you step in and feel welcome. Its obvious the owner put a lot of thought into keeping guests comfortable - I guessing once people stay once they will be repeat renters - I know we will!Owner response: I am so happy that you enjoyed your visit to our cottage in the woods. We appreciate the positve feed back. It's nice to know when we are doing something right and we do strive to make our guest comfortable and happy in hopes they will visit again. Thanks for being a wonderful guest . Sincerely, Linda

We recently spent a long weekend (5/10-5/13/2012) at this cottage. It was so perfectly located to everything yet in a very quiet area in the woods. The cottage was very clean and nicely decorated. (true to photos). I really appreciated having two separate full bathrooms so that we didn't have to share with the kids. It was also nice to have a washer and dryer on site as well as a full kitchen and grill. The owner was nice and is quick to answer emails. During our stay we packed in a whale watch (the 1st of the season), a trip to Kittery, Portsmouth, NH, Ogunquit, and Portland. We visited the Margin Way, Ogunquit beach and York beach is only a nice little walk away. We also hiked Mount Agamenticus. We had ice cream at Brown's, (which was delicious) and dinner at Fox's Lobster house overlooking the water (also fantastic). On our whale watch we saw at least three different species of whales and we also saw dolphins. The boys wanted to take a shot at surfing but without experience the waves were too large. However, we visited a shop called Liquid dreams where they rent surfboards, wet suits, and also give lessons and rent out paddle boards. I would definitely recommend stopping by if interested as the guys are very passionate and knowledgeable. The cottage felt like home only seconds after stepping foot in the door and we hated to leave. It is a great place for families and my dog enjoyed it as well. My only recommendation is to take Linda's suggestion for the road to get to the cottage as I got a flat tire from the dirt road that our GPS recommended, (even going only 25 mph). We will definitely return:)Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We stayed in the cottage for about 6 months over the winter and loved it! The location is great, being about a ten minute minute walk to the beach and less than ten minutes to the highway entrance. York is beautiful and with Portsmouth being so close there are many good restaurants in the area. The house was very clean and newly remodeled with lots of nice little touches. It can sleep at least eight too. It is also somewhat private since it is at the end of a dirt street. Linda was very nice and made everything really easy. We will miss the place and didn't want to leave. We would highly recommend staying here.Owner response: We will miss you. Thanks for the kind words
