My mom, cousin & I stayed for 5 nights. We loved it. The house was clean, and what was indicated on the initial contact from the ower that was supplied was correct. We loved the peaceful relaxing time we spent there. Close enough to the attractions but far enough away to actually relax. We spent mornings on the porch (awesome porch) watching the sunrise and the deer. Most days we saw deer, and three out of the 5 days we saw two baby deer playing in the backyard. I also saw a bob cat in the lower field the last night we were there. And if you are into watching birds there were alot of birds to see. I highly recomend this place. I hope someday to go back to the area and stay again. It was like a home away from home. Great place. We also recommend the Moose Cafe at the Farmers market. They had great home cooked meals. And the pizza place not far from the place has awesome ribs.

Owner response: Thank you for your compliment about the house being clean and I am so glad you all had such a good time. Yes, Chestnut Cove is centrally located being closer to Asheville but not a bad drive to Hendersonvill. So you can relax at the house but be close enough to the action to get to it in a short time. The wildlife there is quite abundant and is rather amazing to have in a developed area. I'm glad to hear Avery's Creek Pizza 'n Ribs was good - it's one of my family's favorite "down the road" eateries. I do hope all my guests will want to return to Chestnut Cove in their future. It's one of those rare "to itself" kind of places.

This house was wonderful. Everyhing we needed, expected the house to have, was there. It was extremely clean and came across as well maintained. The photos of the house were good, very accurate. Didn't do any extensive cooking, but what the kitchen offered was adequate for us. We were near Hendersonville and found the drive to Asheville not bad. The hot tub was great! After time out and about all day kind of chilled after being out in rain was wonderful. Having the garage made a difference with us due to all the rain we had while there. Other reviews for this house were accurate as well. There are signs here, but we've stayed in plenty of other vacation rentals and found some there too. We kind of take them with a grain of salt. There was just the two of us, but I think with the floor plan of this house even a family would be comfortable. We are keeping this house in mind for when we can return to Asheville. We definately will recommend this house to our friends who visit Asheville regularly.

First I'll say the place was clean and quiet, and the master bed was very comfortable. You'd think the rest wouldn't really matter, wouldn't you? But it's all the other "little" things that added up to us deciding we'll never stay here again. First of all, we should have known what to expect from what we saw during the booking process. We had to send 100% of the rent up front, no contract to sign (which would have protected us too), and after sending payment, a FIVE page email was received which detailed everything we were required to do, and also the things we weren't allowed to. Upon arriving at the home we felt like we were back in sixth grade at camp and the camp leaders had signs up everywhere to control our behavior. Around this house were seventeen signs of what NOT to do, or orders of what we were supposed to do. Yes, seventeen, and at least half of them were framed and hanging on the wall. My favorite was the one explaining what the fan in the bathroom was for, and when/how it was to be used. There were not enough towels in the home for the two of us to use during our three day stay, we had to run the washer once. For each of us there was one bath towel, one washcloth, and one face towel. That's it! NO OTHER towels were in either bathroom. Speaking of bathrooms, the second bathroom didn't have any towels whatsoever, and there wasn't even a roll of toilet paper on the roll. Really? They can't even equip each bathroom with basic essentials? Ok, on to the kitchen. The dishes in the cabinet were for the most part ALL dirty. Each glass we used had to be inspected first and rinsed out. This is what happens when the guests are REQUIRED to put all the dishes back in the cabinet before departing after their stay (or be fined a cleaning fee). People are in a hurry to leave and don't want to go to the effort to suds up a few items, so they likely get the quick rinse and put away. The common protocol from all the other homes I've rented is you load and run the dishwasher before you leave, and the owner/cleaning crew puts it away. The cookware was absolutely disgusting!! NONE of the pans were acceptable to use, but we found an 8-inch skillet that didn't wasn't caked up with old food residue that we were able to cook a few things with. There was no cookie sheet in the home, not even a broiler pan. If you're going to stay here, bring ALL the cookware you need including knives, cutting boards, pans etc.

Owner response: Thank you for your initial compliments. I do not know who set the precedent vacation rental owners and managers accepted deposits. Deposits actually keep one person from being paid in full for time supplied in full. We are unlike the hotel industry which makes profit on daily volume. Vacation rental owners receive only a few reservations per month. Guidelines convey expected treatment for a house and protects the renter in that respect keeping them from being charged for the abuse of something otherwise. Being of a certain age or financial status does not place you above being given or following guidelines, and means nothing concerning the approach in respectful treatment of anything. If you are capable of writing such an angry review on truly minor things, when all else was fine, and you chose not to call the managers, you have no right to verbally crucify the managers for a situation you chose not to give them the chance to rectify. Therefore, it is obvious to everyone reading your review that you wanted to complain. My phone number is located on my listing, confirmation and at the vacation rental. Stated plainly on the confirmation is a list of provisions, also to contact me if you need anything. No amount of money obtains perfection. Even from the most expensive hotels and vacation rentals eventually some guest some time is going to find something that needs tending and replacing. To not understand and not accept that is naive. If I failed to notice something left behind by the dishwasher or past guests, I apoligise and know it would never be left on purpose. Confirmations are extensive due to a whole page of helpful websites, helpful list of nearby places to eat, and other helpful information. A lot of things in life are subjective. My word and other positive reviews state the contrary to what these past guests wrote. There are now new dishes, glasses, frying pans, silverware, new bigger cutting board, pots already there were in new condition. Frying pans were worn, not dirty. One phone call would have fixed everything. I really do not bite, really, and I do care that all my guests have a pleasant stay.

We recently spent three nights in this lovely 3 BR hone in Arden NC. If you want to be away from the city and enjoy a lovely sunrise with a mountain view each morning, Chestnut Cove is the place. Located on a family farm, this lovely new home is beautifully decorated and off the beaten path. The split floor plan (master bedroom/bath on one end) provided privacy and the common areas were spacious and comfortable. A well-equipped kitchen and hot tub are just a few of the extas you will enjoy at Chestnut Cove. Horses grazing next door provided true country charm. We had actually booked on short notice and when that owner determined he had double-booked, this home was offered to us and we could not have been happier! It was exactly what we were looking for! Just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and less than a half-hour drive to downtown Asheville.

Owner response: I am happy I was able to accommodate these guests at such last minute because Chestnut Cove is a wonderful house in a country setting, but only 15 minutes to Hendersonville Rd., 20 minutes to Biltmore Estate and 25 minutes from downtown Asheville - very close to the city. To clarify a couple of things, the property this house resides on has a corn field in front and horses grazing next door, so it may "feel" more like a farm than a house in the city, but the property isn't a family farm. Also to clarify, WE didn't double-book, the other vacation rental owner they initially rented from did. That owner contacted me knowing I had two vacation rentals in this area to see if I could help. I've been in the vacation rental business for 10 yrs. now, added my second rental 6 yrs. ago, and have NEVER double-booked.

My family has stayed here twice now- a very clean and comfortable place. Unlike many vacation rentals (cabins with grafted on kitchens, etc.), this is very much a (new) home, and is very comfortable. Great views, even in the winter, had to stop in the driveway to let some deer pass. House is wheelchair accessible- our original reason for renting. The location might not be good for some, but for those who want to visit more than one place in the area (i.e.- Asheville AND Hendersonville, Lake Lure, Bat Cave), it is perfect. There is so much to see and do in the region!

Owner response: Chestnut Cove was finished in June of 2011. The owners had the opportunity to not only design it but also to pick the finishes so everything matches. The location is perfect for those families wanting to be close to the Biltmore Estate or the Blue Ridge Parkway, as well as couples wanting some privacy. The area is renowned for deer venturing into private yards. The view is enjoyed by everyone. It's a beautiful house, suiting different types of mobility, with a little bit of everything for everyone.

The house was very clean and well stocked. Spacious 3 bdrm with an open LR/Kitchen and dining area. Nice front porch with a view in the distance of the mountains. Our kids loved it too. Only thing - it was a little further outside of Asheville than we anticipated (15-20 min). Went to Sliding Rock which was easy and relatively close.

Owner response: Chestnut Cove is a nice size for couples or families. The covered front porch is the perfect spot to take a few minutes and enjoy the view in a rocking chair or eat a meal outside. It is very close to downtown, which is 25 minutes, so you actually in Asheville before you reach downtown! Ya, very little driving!

Avery Creek Pizza & Ribs View on map

Less than 5 minutes from Chestnut Cove. Locally owned and operated, I've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. They offer a variety of food - Mexican, American, Greek. The wait staff is very nice. Although in the center of the restaurant there's a bar, the atmosphere created by the wait staff and the booth seating otherwise create a warm and family friendly atmosphere you can feel good about.

PF Chang's China Bistro View on map

Only 10 minutes from Chestnut Cove is Biltmore Park with restaurants like PG Chang's China Bistro, Brixx Pizza, 131 Main, Travenia's and more. I've eaten at both Brixx Pizza and Travenia's and the pizza was good, but if you want a more upscale dinner try Travenia's. You do not have to go to downtown Asheville to enjoy upscale cuisine. With the name Biltmore, the food at all of the restaurant's located within Biltmore park are high quality and very good.

Located only 10 minutes from Chestnut Cove in Biltmore Park. This restaurant can't be beat for food, atmosphere, courtesy of wait staff and location. It is upscale, in that regard, but is family friendly. Yes, it's a little more pricey, but is comparable to the higher end restaurants in downtown Asheville in every respect too. You do not have to go to downtown Asheville to have an upscale meal in an upscale atmosphere.

Located only 15 minutes from Chestnut Cove off of Hendersonville Rd.. If part of your getaway or vacation is catching up on the latest movie, then Chestnut Cove is the perfect location to the nearest theater. This theater offers food for their "lounge" cinemas as well as beer on tap and other concessions. It's one of the best cinemas in Asheville. Easy in and out from a traffic light - how convenient!

Located only 25 minutes from Chestnut Cove in the Biltmore area (which is parallel to downtown). Visit America's biggest private home. More than 250 rooms, roof top tours available, Gardens, Winery, Antler Hill Village and The Farm/Historic Barn. The house is amazing, the grounds are emaculate and you can relax there as much as you want or be as activate as you care to be. Your tickets allows you to stay all day and see everything. Roof top tours, horseback riding, Segway tours, Fly Fishing and other outdoor activities would be extra.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: This house was built by the owners for a family member, once the owners pass away. We are, however, renting it as a vacation rental until the house is used full-time.

                          Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
This house wasn't bought, but was built new in 2011. The power was turned on June 2011. The area of Arden, where it's located, is south of Asheville and only 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 15 minutes to the Biltmore Estate. So it's close to the two major attractions!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Yes we have wildlife at Chestnut Cove! Deer frequently come through the yard, as well as through the corn field below the house. Also, you can look at the beautiful horses next door!
