Secluded Mountain Home! Spectacular Views of Shenandoah Valley
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Situated in the heart of the historic Shenandoah Valley, Deer Haven offers easy access to unparalleled views of the valley on twenty secluded acres backing up to the National Forest.
Deer Haven is only 100 miles to Washington, DC, thirty minutes to Shenandoah National Park, Bryce and Massanutten Ski resorts, and the spectacular Luray Caverns, and just minutes away from numerous Civil War battlefields, wineries, the Shenandoah River, and National Forest hiking trails.
The home has a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, two baths, and large decks with a grill and hot tub for relaxing. Both bedrooms are on the second floor - the master bedroom boasts a wall of windows overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and River. Two air mattresses are available for additional guests. The living area contains a wood burning stove, comfortable seating, and plenty of games, movies, and books to snuggle up with.
The towns of Edinburg and Woodstock offer great shopping, dining, antiques, coffee shops and art galleries.
If you are looking for a convenient getaway that offers endless views and tranquility, Deer Haven is the place for you.
**NOTE FOR WINTER GUESTS:
We do occasionally get snow in the area. The road up to the cabin is steep in some sections. We will do our best to have the road plowed in the event it does snow however, if the road has packed snow or ice, it will be very difficult to manage without four-wheel or all-wheel drive.
We will work with guests in the event of inclement weather to see that they can reach and enjoy the cabin. That said, guests should monitor the weather and plan on taking a four wheel or all wheel drive vehicle during the winter months in the event there is snow or ice. If the road is impassible by four-wheel vehicle, we will honor a partial or full refund depending on the circumstances.

How we wish we had more time at Deer Haven! The views were wonderful no matter what the weather. We enjoyed the hot tub and the wildlife equally. While we had one small issue the first day we arrived, the owners were extremely service oriented and had it fixed in no time. While the check-out list seemed awfully long at first glance (this was the our 3rd rental through VRBO) it took no time at all. We were unable to secure a 4-wheel drive rental but the sedan we rented made it up the hill just fine.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This cabin is a hidden gem with stunning views from it's picture windows. Do believe the owners when they say you may need AWD to navigate the driveway. We found ourselves stuck in a late season snow that was forecasted to be much less ominous than it ended up being. We woke up to the most gorgeous snowscape...but also to the task of descending the drive. The owners were very proactive and arranged snow cleaning within a short time of my calling them. Would definitely like to return to this residence for future vacations.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Front wheel drive is fine for most of the year, but if snow is predicted, you will certainly need AWD/4WD. Heavy snow is pretty rare in the Shenandoah Valley.

My husband and I are always looking for a place that offers the benefits of seclusion...peace and quiet...restful and serene... Over the past few years we have found such places, but they were more than secluded, they were isolated. Not so with Deer Haven. You have the benefits of seclusion without the feeling of isolation. It was a short drive to civilization and area attractions. In nearby Woodstock you can have all your shopping needs met, from antiquing to groceries. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, also. We visited the Shenandoah Vineyard, the New Market Hall of Valor and Civil War Battlefield, Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive (which is a little further away, but worth the trip). After enjoying the local attractions, we would head back to Deer Haven to unwind and relax in the hot tub. We also enjoyed seeing a sky full of stars as we searched for constellations in the night sky. We enjoyed short hikes on the property, collecting our own firewood and sitting around the fire pit as the evening got cooler. We enjoyed reading when the weather was not so nice and as our evening activity. There is the option of streaming movies or using DVDs with the nice flat screen provided. Though we didn't use it, it was nice to have the option. Also, a big thanks to the owners for providing WIFI as I used my smart phone to check on weather and find area attractions. All in all, we had a wonderful week in the peaceful Shenandoah Mountains. Thanks to the owners for sharing your home with us!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent 4 wonderful days at Deer Haven in April. The setting is beautiful- a well stocked, fully equipped home nestled up in the mountains with a spectacular view of the mountains and valley. Sitting on the deck watching the sunset and the colors of the sky and mountains change is worth the trip up the hill! The fire pit provided the perfect spot for smores while the secluded location allowed for true privacy and tranquility. Hiking, canoeing, wine tasting and caverns are all nearby providing options if one choses to venture out of Deer Haven for a few hours. Thank you to the owners for sharing your beautiful spot in the Shenandoah Valley!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I was looking for a place to get away from work for few days, get back to nature and relax. This place is absolutely perfect. It is secluded, but you are actually a very short drive (or hike) from civilization. There is a lot of stuff to do, if you are not satisfied with just hiking in the woods. The nature is spectacular! Views are amazing! The house is very modern and well-appointed, the owners actually seem to have more stuff than they allow in the description. The drive is not bad at all. Granted I only had to deal with fair weather, but I am a new driver, and I only have Toyota Corolla, and I did not find it difficult or intimidating. Just don't race on it. Thank you so much!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My fiancee and I are always looking for romantic getaways for our anniversary, and Deer Haven was no exception! From the moment we walked into the house, we were completely blown away! From the beautiful decorative touches to the astounding architecture, this was definitely a phenomenal property! By far, our favorite part of the home was the arched, wall to wall, ceiling to ceiling windows in both the living room and master bedroom. Waking up to that view truly took my breath away! This is the perfect place for couples or families to truly get away from it all! Be sure to have a reliable vehicle, though, because the gravel road up to the home is long, narrow, and winding! My only qualm, would be that the hot tub had been turned off and the water was low. We called the owners, and they were incredibly helpful. But unfortunately, by the time the hot tub had heated up, we were heading out the door. We had booked a place specifically for a hot tub, so that was a little disappointing. However, we loved that house so much, that we still had a lovely time! And looking at the guest book, we seem to be the only ones who have had that problem. All in all, Deer Haven was a fantastic place for our romantic getaway. As long as the hot tub was up and running, we would definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad you had such a good time Caitlin and Chris! Thanks for the review. The hot tub is serviced regularly - sorry about the low water - it is back to normal. Note: to save energy, we ask our guests to turn down the hot tub water temperature when they leave. In the welcome packet, we recommend turning up the water temperature ASAP if you plan to use the hot tub.

Our two-day couples' retreat to Deer Haven was exactly that - a retreat from everything! We spent our time grilling outside on the deck, relaxing in the hot tub overlooking the valley and mountains, playing horseshoes in the yard, and reading in the rocking chairs on the front deck. The house was beautifully decorated - it was modern and chic, yet comfortable and lived-in. The two bedrooms could not be more different - one is zen-like and modern, with a beautiful view overlooking the valley; and the other, cozy and comfy, with a cabin-like feel. The house was perfect for two couples, and was well-kept and ordered. The kitchen was well-equipped, (though since two of our group are chefs, we brought many of our own knives, etc). We didn't go out for any meals, so I can't speak to anything nearby. We pretty much stayed put the entire trip, though did spend one afternoon hiking around the neighboring woods. The owner and management team were organized and responsive to any issues or questions that we had. The only hesitation I have in writing this review is that I don't want Deer Haven to become so popular that we can't return! Many thanks to the owner, John, for creating such a great little house in the woods. I can't wait to go back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: Friends John, Matt, and Mark traveled the world together before realizing the beautiful Shenandoah Valley was in their back yard. The thought of enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book on Deer Haven's porches overlooking the valley was too inviting to resist. They decided to purchase Deer Haven together as a convenient weekend getaway from the grind of the city. Now they are opening their home to visitors to share the delightful views and tranquility of Deer Haven.
Why the Owner Chose Edinburg:
The owners chose the Edinburgh area primarily because of its charm, natural beauty and easy access to Washington, DC (just 100 miles). Only 20 miles from Bryce and 30 miles from Massanutten, Luray, and Front Royal, Deer Haven is truly centrally located in the valley.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Outside we have large decks with beautiful views, grill, hot tub, and rocking chairs. Local hiking is endless. Public river access is an easy 10-minutes away where you can swim, fish, etc.
Inside the comfortable, chalet style home is a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, wood-burning stove, piano for your pleasure, and all of the amenities of home.
