Casa Paradisio, a waterfront property, sits on almost 2 acres. Available year round. It is new (8/2011) with satillo tile floors downstairs, and solid oak floors upstairs. Twelve feet of french doors face the lake for a beautiful view, and first floor has a 9 ft ceiling. This 1040 sq ft cottage is secluded and comes fully furnished. Large kitchen has stainless appliances and black marble tiled countertops and bar, with 4 bar stools. Plantation shutters cover the windows. Very comfortable plush king bed upstairs. Master bath has travertine floor, and a large walk in tiled shower with dark emperador marble. Beautiful Tiffany-style lighting over the bar and over the sink as well as a chandelier over the dining table adds to the ambiance. Open living area on first floor which includes a sofa bed, washer and dryer, and small desk. A beautiful screened & covered pergola is being added May 2013 which will have some very nice features (check for pictures as it develops!) Flat screen HDTV DVR with satellite on first floor and TV with satellite DVR connection and DVD player in bedroom. Vaulted ceiling in stairway with solid oak stairs. Hookup for motor home, extra charge (inquire). The lake is crystal clear spring fed and is good for swimming, fishing, canoeing and Kayaking. Unlike some lakes in the North Central FL area, this lake is only within 1-2 ft below it's normal level, and averages 18+ ft deep. Please, no gas motors in order to preserve the lake pristine. I receive many compliments on how the cottage is 'just like home' being very well appointed with furnishings that are consistent with home and is not only clean, but smells clean. The cottage is meticulously cleaned after each guest.
Community Information
This lake is situated in a community of 3 lakes. It is a 'golf cart community' and ideal for riding bicycles or walking/jogging. There are a number of wild animals and birds in the area, and seeing eagles fishing in the lakes is a common sight. Turkeys are abundant, deer, sand hill cranes, and fox are all seen in the community. A beautiful English butterfly garden surrounds the front entrance.
Thirty-five minutes from the University of Florida.
Reserve early for the UF Gator football home games in Gainesville, FL. It is sure to be an exciting season! Go Gators! Or, whichever team you are a fan of!
Close to Boy Scout and Girl Scout camps outside of Hawthorne.
Cyclists: The Gainesville/Hawthorne Bike Trail (Rails to Trails) is located a short 8 miles from the cottage.
Motorcycle Enthusiasts: The Starke FL area has several biker venues that are attracting a number of bikers and events. It is located approximately 40 minutes away.

This cottage is wonderful! It is located in an out of the way, beautiful place. We enjoyed the pretty blue lake by canoeing and fishing off the dock. The cottage is beautiful inside with any thing you may possibly need. Even though in a quiet area it wasn't far from Hawthorne where there is a grocery store and a nice church. We plan on trying to reserve again sometime this summer! Mary was great to work with!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed for one month at cottage and owner Mary had everything needed for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Cottage is very clean and beautifully decorated. This cottage is secluded but this is what we wanted and loved hearing the frogs at the lake and wind through the pines. We visited nearby Gainesville and Ocala and loved the Hawthorne bike trail. The Corky Bell seafood restaurant at Palatka on St John's river and Cody's roadhouse in Gainesville were great to dine. We would definitly recommend for a quiet getaway.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We enjoyed our stay so much! It was just what we needed. The cottage was so comfortable and clean. It also had everything that we needed. Mary has furnished the cottage with just about anything you could possibly need. We really loved the plush king bed and again, how exceptionally clean the home is. We sat on the dock and fished, and my wife read a book. We also used the canoe and paddle boat... so relaxing to be on the water. What a perfect setting. The water level is close to normal and crystal clear! We could see the fish biting the hook! I also enjoyed how serene the area is and no traffic noise, just the birds. We will definitely return soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The cottage was lovely. It was immaculately maintained and had all the details one would like; good linens, plenty of hot water, a complete kitchen, tv, and internet access. Mary is a tireless hostess and seemed undaunted by any question or request. The location is very quiet which we appreciated immensely. We had a lovely time and I will recommend it to friends. There are two caveats that I think it is fair that a guest might want to know: We were not aware that the area was under a drought, so we were surprised to find the area quite dry including the pond being very low. The other thing is that, you may want to bring bottled water since the well water there has it's own, very particular flavor.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Mary & Ricky are wonderful people to meet and the cottage is quite spacious and very comfortable. My wife and I enjoyed our week there and love having such a great place close to Jacksonville. There is a ton of great places near by: Micanopy, Cross Creek, Paines Prairie Preserve, the Hawthorne Trail and Macintosh. I even lucked into a family cane grinding with Mary's Uncle Leroy at his local farm!! We'll be back for sure! One small item though....a king size bed in the master bed room would have been perfect...we're big people :) . I highly recommend this cottage to anyone needing to 'get away' in style in comfort!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay, and the cane grinding experience. We will soon change out the bed for a king size, as I wholeheartedly agree with you ... I like the extra room too that a king has to offer! I will update the cottage details when this happens. Many thanks!

We enjoyed a quiet stay at this new well appointed cottage. The cottage was clean, cozy & comfy with EVERYTHING we could possibly need to feel at home. Mary, the owner, is so accommadating and friendly. The perfect host! I sat by the butterfly garden in the late afternoon, my husband enjoyed fishing in the lake, we made tasty steaks and fish (not from the lake) on the charcoal grill, enjoyed riding our bikes around the community and took a pleasant scenic drive to the quaint town of Miconopy for the fall festival. After the festival we had lunch at the historic Yearling restaurant to watch Willie Green play some classic blues. It was a fun long weekend in a great cottage!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much! I am happy that you had a great time and enjoyed what North FL has to offer. I hope to see you both again, and Olive!

All I can say is WOW! What a great cottage and location. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the beautiful view from the patio, a break from the city life of Port St. Lucie, Fla. Scotty and my Brother Tim fished, and took the boat out almost daily. My husband said the fish had beautiful color due to the fresh clean water. I enjoyed the window seat upstairs, curling up with my book :) . Everything is available that you could need, and the cottage is so charming it makes a great vacation. The very best about the cottage is the quiet, the only sounds are the birds and the breeze thru the trees No lawnmowers, sirens, motorcycles. Just enjoyable peace. We didn't want to leave, we find it hard being back on our busy street. I miss it already. It is everything its description says. I must add, My 3 Yorkies love the wide open space. I don't think I have ever seen them so happy to be outside running as fast as they could LOL. We will be back very soon, We loved it!!!! Thank you Mary for sharing this beautiful cottage and grounds with us. The cottage was new, immaculate and luxurious, just like my own home. But unlike my own home it was in a deliciously remote and quiet location which is what I crave from time to time. And even though the location felt genuinely way out in the woods, Mary had installed a WiFi hotspot for the cottage and it was awesome! Mary was authentic and super helpful in every way. I enjoyed swimming and relaxing on the lake all day and my husband caught up on a lot of missed sleep. We visited a beautiful Spring in Ocala National Forest and explored old St Augustine and enjoyed absorbing the local culture around the cottage.. We had lunch in Micanopy on the way home and it was the prettiest US small town I've been too. I want to live there! There really is nothing to disappoint regarding the cottage and surrounding area. It was all delightful and a very relaxing experience. My only advice is, follow carefully Mary's instructions on which roads to take to get to the cottage and don't rely on your GPS device. I followed my IPad map to find the cottage and what seemed like the direct route was something of an adventure. Although we did see some terrific wildlife in the woods, I'm not sure my car appreciated it. I'm really hoping we can come back soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Rachelle, Thank you so much for your lovely review. You did have quite an adventure in the shortcut route you took, and glad it turned out well. I was really impressed that you arrived at the cottage with no problem taking that route and was able to see so much wildlife. It definitely makes reminiscing and telling your vacation story more exciting. We do a lot of boating, and those are the best stories, the adventures. I am happy you enjoyed Micanopy, Silver Glen Springs, and St. Augustine. There is an Indian mound at the spring covered with a lot of dirt to protect it, and I am sure you can see why Indians lived there. Hawthorne had a lot of Indian tribes living in the area, and with so many lakes in the area, it is easy to understand why. I am so happy you and your husband were able to find the needed relaxation at the cottage. Mary

When we arrived at the cottage we were pleasantly surprised how accurate the description was. The listing photos captured everything about the cottage perfectly. The cottage on the lake was peaceful, clean, well stocked, beautiful inside and very comfortable for 3 adults and 2 children. We had a short weekend stay which was not long enough. I communicated via email and telephone with Mary the owner, who was very friendly and helpful. Her husband Ricky was a wealth of information and friendly as well. We did see a family of wild turkeys crossing the road and fish jumping in the lake! Loved it! Kay and family Central Florida areaRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. Hopefully I will be home if you visit in the future. Rickie enjoyed talking to you all so much!

Owner info
About the owner: I am married, and retired from the University of Florida. I enjoy traveling, and would like to offer my guests the amenities in rental homes that I have enjoyed over the years in my travels, primarily snow skiing, and boating. I love the water and boating, and have spent my adult life on a lake close-by to the cottage. I enjoy talking to people.
Why the Owner Chose Gainesville:
We purchased 2 acres on this beautiful lake and built the cottage. The lake is crystal clear water and one of the top pristine lakes of Florida. I enjoy the gentle breezes that blow across the property and up to the patio. It is peaceful, tranquil, and secluded with lots of wildlife and birds.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The property is secluded and quiet. Most of my guest have commented on how quiet the area is with no traffic, which is a unique commodity in FL. The cottage is very well appointed and decorated. A nice place to 'get away from it all'. Swimming and canoeing, or fishing is such a delight with the beautiful pristine water. You can see the fish biting the hook! Stargazing/meteor showers, campfires, or sitting on the dock provides much fun. The cottage sits far away from cities and their lights... and noise. You may see one or 2 cars pass by in a days' time, if you happen to be looking!
