Gainesville cottage description
11 NIGHTS SPECIAL - JANUARY 4-15, 2014 'Please Inquire' (available for fewer days in this time period as well)
Casa Paradisio, a waterfront property, sits on almost 2 acres. Available year round. Completed in late 2011, it is an exceptionally clean home with satillo tile floors downstairs, and solid oak floors upstairs. Twelve feet of french doors face the lake for a beautiful view, and the first floor has a 9 ft ceiling. This 1040 sq ft cottage is secluded and comes fully furnished. Large kitchen has stainless appliances and black marble tiled countertops and bar, with 4 bar stools. Plantation shutters cover the windows. Very comfortable plush king bed upstairs. Master bath has travertine floor, and a large walk in tiled shower with dark emperador marble. Beautiful Tiffany-style lighting over the bar and over the sink as well as a chandelier over the dining table adds to the ambiance. Open living area on first floor which includes a sofa bed, washer and dryer, and small desk. A beautiful screened & covered pergola over patio with a beautiful and comfy swingbed, on the lakeside. Flat screen HDTV DVR with satellite on first floor and TV with satellite DVR connection and DVD player in bedroom. Satellite internet for wifi throughout cottage. Vaulted ceiling in stairway with solid oak stairs. Hookup for motor home, extra charge (inquire). The lake is crystal clear spring fed and is good for swimming, fishing, canoeing and Kayaking. Unlike some lakes in the North Central FL area, this lake is at normal/average water level, and averages as much as 25+ ft deep. Please, no gas motors in order to preserve the lake pristine. I receive many compliments on how the cottage is 'just like home' being very well appointed with furnishings that are consistent with home and is not only clean, but smells clean. The cottage is meticulously cleaned after each guest. The cottage comes equipped with a kayak, canoe, jon boat, and large 4 seater pontoon style peddle boat, and several used bicycles. Patio by the lake and dock has a fire pit and outdoor sofa and chairs.
This lake is situated in a community of 3 lakes. It is a 'golf cart community' and ideal for riding bicycles or walking/jogging. There are a number of wild animals and birds in the area, and seeing eagles fishing in the lakes is a common sight. Ospreys, hawks, turkeys are abundant, deer, sand hill cranes, and fox are all seen in the community. Looking out the window above the kitchen sink and surrounding the front entrance, is a beautiful English butterfly garden, which also attracts hummingbirds.
Thirty-five minutes from the University of Florida.
Reserve early for the UF Gator football home games in Gainesville, FL. It is sure to be an exciting season! Go Gators! Or, whichever team you are a fan of!

- Wildlife is abundant in this heavily wooded community. Bird watching is another exciting activity. Wild Turkeys, Sand Hill Cranes, Blue Herons, Eagles, Hawks, and Swallow-Tailed Kites are seen regularly around the lake. Stargazing and satellite spotting at night with the naked eye is a wonderful activity enjoyed by many, being far away from city lights. The stars are so vibrant in the night sky. (Some people have the Google Sky app on their Android phones/tablets which identify the stars...just point it towards the sky....) Enjoy a campfire and roast marshmallows. A canoe, jon boat with paddles, and a peddle boat are available for your use at no charge. A very nice bike trail can be found in Hawthorne and is part of the 'Rails to Trails'. The paved path goes all the way to Gainesville. There are several places to stop for rest or a picnic on the trail. There are a few used bikes at the cottage for your use (please inquire when you make your reservation if you'd like to use them, for use around the lake only) I would like to highlight a true jewel of this part of the earth, and that is, North Central Florida is known for it’s beautiful natural springs. Spring water is a natural discharge from the ‘Floridan aquifer system’, the state's primary aquifer. The water temp is 72 degrees year round, which makes swimming on a warm winter Florida day very nice, not to mention on hot days. Two of my favorite springs are Silver Glen Springs in the Ocala National Forest, and Ichetucknee Springs near High Springs/Ft White area, north of Gainesville. Tubing down the Ichetucknee River is a favorite for so many. It generally takes several hours, but be sure to look at the websites to get info as the number of people that can tube down is limited (you may visit the north or south end). There are rentals in that area for tubes etc. Visiting these State Park springs on weekdays, will be less crowded, but be sure to call for hours etc. before visiting. Saint Augustine has a full day of activities to offer and is located approx 1.25 hours from the cottage. Spend some time at the beach, The Old Fort, and the many shops and restaurants on St. George’s Street. There is a winery in the area, as well as the Alligator Farm along with ziplines and other activities. Ride the trolley around St. Augustine, or take a day trip on the many different options to get out on the water. Orlando theme parks are south of the cottage, approx 2 hours away. I keep brochures and other information at the cottage with information on many other things to do in the surrounding areas. ...moreless

An Idyllic Respite
An Idyllic Respite
Our Thanksgiving weekend stay at Blue Lake was idyllic. Mary was a most thoughtful and accommodating hostess, meeting us at the front gate of the community late at night, guiding us to the property, explaining where things were located around the house and how appliances worked. Our four magical days passed far too quickly. Each morning we awoke to the most beautiful view of Blue Lake, took our dog for a walk on the quiet road around the lake, and let him play with the Spanish moss that dripped from the oaks that grace the property. I cooked breakfasts of waffles and bacon and eggs each morning while my husband barbequed dinners each night in the screen enclosed lanai. The kitchen was abundantly stocked with every dish and tool that could be imagined. We sat overlooking the lake, watching the logs burn low in the fire pit, and played Trivial Pursuit each night. It was a sports weekend and we had come for the FSU/UF game and were pleased to find Gainesville so easily accessible from the cottage. When not at the game, the TV provided every channel if we wanted more sports or other entertainment. In general, the cottage had top of the line appliances, lovely bathroom fixtures, and the most comfortable big bed. Though we never got around to the bikes and boats they were ready and waiting. We were sad to leave but we know that we will be back! Thank you Mary, for providing such a lovely respite from the world.

Owner response: I look forward to having return! Thank you again! Mary
My wife and I, along with our girls who are in college at the university, really do enjoy this quiet, quaint cottage in the country. We have stayed here twice, soon to be three next spring! It is the cleanest of anyplace we have ever stayed, along with the decorating is 'second to none!" The lake is beautiful and last time we visited we just sat out on the screened in porch and listened to the wind through the pine trees. Mary is very efficient and always willing to help and make our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone!

Labor day girls weekend
Labor day girls weekend
This was the absolute perfect place to go to get away from it all. Me and three friends went to this cottage for the first time to have a quiet, stress free long weekend and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Mary was a fantastic host and the cottage was equipped with everything you could think of. We did some fishing off the dock and floated on rafts in the lake. View is perfect. We are already planning our next visit. Lisa W.

Owner response: Thank you! I am happy it was a great weekend for you girls. I keep thinking I am going to go over for a girls weekend myself and play a game of Monopoly!
My wife and I stayed at this cottage for a very relaxing 3 nights and really enjoyed it. The area is very rural and away from it all. The house itself is very comfortable with great decor and everything you could ever need in the kitchen. We also really enjoyed the screened in area below the pergola outside. Even when it was raining, it was a perfect spot to sit and relax. Also having the grill under the cover was helpful as the weather was not cooperating for us. We would definitely recommend this place for a nice getaway.

Gainsville charming cottage
We had a wonderful and relaxing time. The cottage was charming and very clean. We would love to rent it again in the fall or winter. This cottage is close to Gainsville for dinning and shopping but secluded enough to enjoy the country feel.

Owner response: Many thanks to you and your family. I look forward to your return! Mary
I can't say enough about the comfort and beauty of this cottage. The accommodations were outstanding and the amenitites were beyond belief. Our family has stayed at a number of rental condos, cabins and now Mary's cottage and have never found any to be as well equipped as this rental. Our family had a very relaxing weekend and enjoyed the lake, the very grounds and the cottage very much. Our stay was much too short and we're already begun planning a return trip. Mary, thank you again for a wonderful weekend. Due to the drastic age difference of our boys this weekend gave them the opportunity to share a number of firsts (i.e. boating, fishing, etc.). Our family made memories at your cottage that will always be charished.

July 4th getaway
July 4th getaway
My husband and I are so glad that we found this cottage! It is only about 2 hours from Jacksonville, lovely new construction with all the amenities of home, and located on a beautifully blue spring-fed lake in a quiet area-- the perfect place to getaway from it all. The home is well-appointed with a plush king bed, plenty of towels, every kitchen tool you could think of, washer and dryer, a closet of games and lake accessories, etc. Mary is a wonderful hostess who seems to have thought of everything-- even toiletries in case you left anything at home. We live by the beach in a community that gets rather rowdy around the 4th of July- much to the chagrin of our dog who is terrified of fireworks- and we head out of town each year for the 4th. This cottage is by far the best holiday hideaway we have found-- it is remote (down about a 2 mile dirt road in a quaint community of homes on large lots surrounding a chain of lakes) and offers a chance to slow down and really enjoy nature. However it is also is lovingly decorated & beautifully built-- a nice change of pace from the bare-bones, dated cabins we've encountered on other fourth getaways across north Florida. We brought plenty of provisions with us as I knew the shopping options near the cabin were sparse, however there is a grocery in Hawthorne (about 15 minutes away.) On our last evening we made the half-hour drive into Gainesville for dinner and a dose of nostalgia but would have been just as happy staying "home." (However, we really enjoyed dinner at The Top- despite painfully slow service, the food was quite good and the kitschy atmosphere is fun. Dessert at Karma Cream- all organic ice cream and treats- is also recommended.) Once the screened porch is completed it will be the icing on the cake of this fantastic lake getaway. We have several friends and family who are eager to stay here now that we'e scoped it out and we can't wait to come back ourselves. Highly recommended.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind words. I strive hard to make the cottage the most it can be and enjoy doing so. The screened pergola with ceiling fan, swingbed, and decor will be the finishing touches. I look forward to you, your family and/or friends visiting the cottage in the future!

Thanks so much for the short notice and all of the help you gave us! We couldn't be happier with how well you treated us! From arrival to departure you were responsive, warm and inviting! We love the lake and you are right, it is crystal clear! The house is so well decorated, comfortable and clean! The nights were so peaceful! I think I slept better than I had in years! Owner response: Judy, thank you for your lovely comments here as well as in my guestbook. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and I think the comfy bed, the quiet surroundings, and the clear and beautiful spring fed lake are hard to beat! I hope that you will return one day to enjoy the swingbed under the screened pergola (almost finished!) Many thanks! Mary
This cottage is wonderful! It is located in an out of the way, beautiful place. We enjoyed the pretty blue lake by canoeing and fishing off the dock. The cottage is beautiful inside with any thing you may possibly need. Even though in a quiet area it wasn't far from Hawthorne where there is a grocery store and a nice church. We plan on trying to reserve again sometime this summer! Mary was great to work with!

About the owner: I am married, and retired from the University of Florida. I enjoy traveling, and would like to offer my guests the amenities in rental homes that I have enjoyed over the years in my travels, primarily snow skiing, and boating. I love the water and boating, and have spent my adult life on a lake close-by to the cottage. I enjoy meeting and talking to people, and try to offer my guests the best possible experience at the cottage.
Why the Owner Chose Gainesville:
We purchased 2 acres on this beautiful lake and built the cottage. The lake is crystal clear water and one of the top pristine lakes in Florida. I enjoy the gentle breezes that blow across the property and up to the patio. It is peaceful, tranquil, and secluded with lots of wildlife and birds. A very nice place to slow down and unwind.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The property is secluded and quiet. Most of my guest have commented on how quiet the area is with no traffic, which is a unique commodity in FL. The cottage is very well appointed, decorated and very clean. A nice place to 'get away from it all'. Swimming, kayaking and canoeing, or fishing is such a delight with the beautiful pristine water. You can see the fish swimming around the dock! Stargazing/meteor showers, full moon nights, campfires, or sitting on the dock provides great fun. The cottage sits far away from the city and its' lights... and noise. You may see one or 2 cars pass by in a days' time, if you happen to be looking!
