Blueberry Point Cottage is a year round waterfront home that has been in our family for over 50 years. This Non-Smoking cottage is located on the east side of Wilson Pond in Swanzey, New Hampshire.
Wilson Pond is 90 acres large with gravel and dirt bottom with very little rock. Blueberry Point is just what the name implies - a small, well treed, private peninsula with a west and south exposure. Blueberry Point is the only cottage on the property, with over 750 feet of lake frontage. The grounds are covered with tall trees and lots of high and low bush blueberries.
The entire property is level and has both sunny and shaded lawn areas right beside the swimming area. It is just 20 feet from the front door to the water's edge. The swimming area is gravel bottomed and a very gradual slope. At the shore the water is less than 12 inches deep, at 40 feet from shore the water is just six feet deep. This provides a terrific area for young children to play safely in the water. There is also a large swing set for children in the side yard. There are picnic tables, benches, and a grill in the dooryard as well as chairs on the lawn for your use.
On Wilson Pond, sail boats, kayaks, and canoe are most welcome. There is an occasional power boat, but very few are resident. The few boats that are brought in for day use are mostly small electric motors, used by fishermen. The lake supports a host of fish from small mouth bass (a state record catch set here a few years), perch and pickerel (also a state record catch) to horned pout and sun fish. NH law requires fishing licenses for all over 16. Young children will spend many happy hours fishing from the land, as I did as a child and my children have as well.
Blueberry Point Cottage itself has a large three seasons, glassed and screened porch with sitting and eating areas. It has direct access to the lawns and swimming areas. Some of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see occur across the lake to the west. Our family has traditionally eaten supper on the porch and then watched the sunset.
The porch accesses a large living room with cathedral ceiling, fireplace with a woodstove. There are lots of chairs and a sofa. There also are cards, games, and plenty of books to read in the bookshelves.
The kitchen has a large refrigerator/freezer/ice maker, gas stove and oven, large sink, and microwave and a small dishwasher. All appliances are new. There are dishes, glass, and flatware. There are even spices in the drawer for your use. The dining room has a large table and chairs. It is especially beautiful in the morning as the sun streams into the room through windows on three sides.
Blueberry Point will sleep five comfortably in three bedrooms. They are furnished with a queen, two twins in the second bedroom; the third bedroom has a single twin. All of the bedding is new. In addition, a sleep sofa (living room) will accommodate one child/teen if necessary.
The bath is completely new the past few years and has a large shower stall with a seat, sink and head. As of the summer of 2006, Blueberry Point Cottage is served by both municipal water & sewer services.
There is an oil- fired hot air furnace in case of a cold snap. There is also a vacuum cleaner in the event of the unexpected.
The cottage will be ready in move in condition when you arrive. Linens are included in the rental price. This includes sheets, blankets, spreads, bath and hand towels, face cloths, table linens as well as kitchen towels. This also includes bath sheets for use as swim towels. The linens will be refreshed weekly for multi-week rentals in conjunction with maid service.
The neighborhood itself is very quiet. There are numerous cottages along the lakeshore but none near Blueberry Point by nature of its location on a peninsula. Blueberry bushes line the waters edge providing a privacy screen hedge. This makes it a very private and pleasant location. Some cottages are used year round, others are seasonal.
Directly across the lake is the Keene Airport. This is not a commercial airport, so there is no scheduled flight service. All air traffic is private, generally single engine planes, which makes it a very good (quiet) neighbor and interesting to observe.
There are two convenience stores nearby (within one and half miles). It is about four miles into Keene to get to the nearest large grocery and or retail stores. Keene also has lots of fine restaurants and entertainment venues.
While you are on vacation, we would prefer that your pet also go on vacation elsewhere. Bluebeery Point has a no pets policy. It is very difficult to accommodate the family pet in a rental cottage due to the remainders of their visits that we have to deal with after your departure. Please board your pet. We are dog people and have large dogs of our own. Unfortunately, not everyone is as responsible with their dogs, which ruins it for everyone else thereafter.
We are sure that you will enjoy your stay at Blueberry Point. It has been our family summer cottage for over fifty years with many happy memories covering five generations. We are sure that you will have many happy memories of your visit as well. Please give me a call with any questions, I will also be glad to send you some additional pictures.
