East Swanzey cottage description
Blueberry Point Cottage is a year round waterfront home that has been in our family for over 50 years. This Non-Smoking cottage is located on the east side of Wilson Pond in eastern part of Swanzey, New Hampshire.
Wilson Pond is 90 acres large with gravel and dirt bottom with very little rock. Blueberry Point is just what the name implies - a small, well treed, private peninsula with a west and south exposure. Blueberry Point is the only cottage on the property, with over 750 feet of lake frontage. The grounds are covered with tall trees and lots of high and low bush blueberries.
The entire property is level and has both sunny and shaded lawn areas right beside the swimming area. It is just 20 feet from the front door to the water's edge. The swimming area is gravel bottomed and a very gradual slope. At the shore the water is less than 12 inches deep, at 40 feet from shore the water is just six feet deep. This provides a terrific area for young children to play safely in the water. There is also a large swing set for children in the side yard. There are picnic tables, benches, and a grill in the dooryard as well as chairs on the lawn for your use.
On Wilson Pond, sail boats, kayaks, and canoe are most welcome. There is an occasional power boat, but very few are resident. The few boats that are brought in for day use are mostly small electric motors, used by fishermen. The lake supports a host of fish from large & small mouth bass (a state record catch set here a few years), perch and pickerel (also a state record catch) to horned pout and sun fish. NH law requires fishing licenses for all over 16. Young children will spend many happy hours fishing from the land, as I did as a child and my children have as well.
The cottage is rented for full week rentals Saturday PM to Saturday AM only during the summer months with a maximum of six overnight guests.
Blueberry Point Cottage itself has a large three seasons, glassed and screened porch with sitting and eating areas. It has direct access to the lawns and swimming areas. Some of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see occur across the lake to the west. Our family has traditionally eaten supper on the porch and then watched the sunset.
The porch accesses a large living room with cathedral ceiling, fireplace with a wood stove. There are lots of chairs and a sofa. There also are cards, games, and plenty of books to read in the bookshelves.
The kitchen has a large refrigerator/freezer/ice maker, gas stove and oven, large sink, and microwave and a small dishwasher. All appliances are new. There are dishes, glass, and flatware. There are even spices in the drawer for your use. The dining room has a large table and chairs. It is especially beautiful in the morning as the sun streams into the room through windows on three sides.
Blueberry Point will sleep five comfortably in three bedrooms. They are furnished with a queen, two twins in the second bedroom; the third bedroom has a single twin. All of the bedding is new. In addition, a sleep sofa (living room) will accommodate one additional child/teen if necessary.
The bath is completely new the past few years and has a large shower stall with a seat, sink and head. As of the summer of 2006, Blueberry Point Cottage is served by both municipal water & sewer services.
There is an oil- fired hot air furnace in case of a cold snap. There is also a vacuum cleaner in the event of the unexpected.
The cottage will be ready in move in condition when you arrive. Main service is on Saturday mornings at 10AM for multi-week rentals.
The neighborhood itself is very quiet. There are numerous cottages along the lakeshore but none near Blueberry Point by nature of its location on a peninsula. Blueberry bushes line the waters edge providing a privacy screen hedge. This makes it a very private and pleasant location. Some cottages are used year round, others are seasonal.
Directly across the lake is the Keene Airport. This is not a commercial airport, so there is no scheduled flight service. All air traffic is private, generally single engine planes, which makes it a very good (quiet) neighbor and interesting to observe.
There are two convenience stores nearby (within one and half miles). It is about four miles into Keene to get to the nearest large grocery and or retail stores. Keene also has lots of fine restaurants and entertainment venues.
While you are on vacation, we would prefer that your pet also go on vacation elsewhere. Blueberry Point has a no pets policy. It is very difficult to accommodate the family pet in a rental cottage due to the remainders of their visits that we have to deal with after your departure. Please board your pet. We are dog people and have large dogs of our own. Unfortunately, not everyone is as responsible with their dogs, which ruins it for everyone else thereafter.
We are sure that you will enjoy your stay at Blueberry Point. It has been our family summer cottage for over fifty years with many happy memories covering five generations. We are sure that you will have many happy memories of your visit as well. Please give me a call with any questions, I will also be glad to send you some additional pictures.
Thanks for your inquiry.

We have stayed at Blueberry point two times now. Once in 2005 and again in 2012 and enjoyed it both times. My grandchildren went swimming everyday and couldn't keep a fishing pole out of their hands.(one of them caught a 17inch bass right off the back pier) We like your place way better than a hotel as the whole family can get together and really relax and have a nice visit without worrying about the kids. The children also liked the boat a lot. The cabin was clean and neat but could use a small washing machine. Would for sure stay here again. Thanks for having us Jim and Dianne Powers from Calif

Stayed a full week this summer, myself with husband and 3 kids (age 5-10). Loved how the house was set off from others by a long gravel driveway. Large, well maintained property with pretty flowers growing by the lake. Water was clean, clear, and perfectly refreshing on those hot days. We loved to take the boat (included with rental), swim, and travel on rafts to the small island. This was a great place to meet some of the others who live around the lake, all very friendly. The house was comfortable and homey with quaint knick-knacks here and there. Beautiful views of lake from the back porch, living room, and one of the bedrooms. Since the house is on a peninsula, you also have views of a cove from the kitchen. Clean, comfortable beds, clean bathroom. Lots of seating throughout the house. Enjoyed grilling by the lake at dinner time, or taking a drive to nearby Keene for a visit to the toy store and then dinner at one of the excellent restaurants. Best day trip was to Montshire Science Museum, about an hours drive, just over the border in Vermont. Stayed all day, kids LOVED it, bring swimsuits as they have outdoor water exhibits which the kids can play in. Overall, this vacation was a great. Would highly recommend this cottage to families. Thanks for a great stay Phil!
