Our beautiful little cabin ''Rhoades Retreat'' is resting at the top of the hill in the Sly Park area of Pollock Pines. The ''Retreat'' is at elevation 4100 feet and receives its share of snow, (15-24 inches) per season. Surrounded by trees, trees, trees, your privacy is assured! The deck is huge which includes your seasonal private hot tub, and allows for your rest and relaxation as well as gazing at the stars at night, unbelievable! Our ''Driveway to the stars'' may become unusable during the winter months due to possible ice and snow. Parking at the bottom of the driveway and a vigorous 60 second walk up to the retreat may be necessary. It is well worth it! New carpeting, flooring and furniture provides a very comfortable stay. Enjoy the beautiful wood stove fire to go with the mountain scenery, life is good! Don't forget to check out our information folder ''Things to do and see at the Rhoades retreat!'' which we provide for our visitors.
You will be only one minute away from beautiful Jenkinson Lake. You can water ski, fish, mountain bike, hike or just relax and spend some time at this beautiful mountain lake. You can rent fishing boats or kayaks as well.
California's Gold Rush began only 20 miles away at Sutter's Mill. Spending time at this discovery site will be well worth it! There are over 20 wineries with tasting rooms serving some of the best wines in the country. Red Hawk casino is only 20 minutes away. Apple Hill is 10 minutes away! ''Sierra at Tahoe'' Ski resort is only 25 miles away right off Hwy 50.
Please note that the Hot tub is seasonal and is out of service Dec through Feb.

We enjoyed our stay at this home...it was a few minutes drive to the lake and close to Apple Hill. It was actually a two bedroom home with a third bedroom detached, a few steps across the patio. this was great as it allowed a bit of personal space for the older kids, in our case, or if another couple were to join in. The area inside and outside was clean, the deck kept out all the dirt and dust, and the firepit was laid with rock, which helped with the dust also. The smaller kids enjoyed the outside playhouse and chairs, and we content to play in the patio and outside area, which was in between the main house and second room, so I did not have to worry about them getting out of sight or wandering off. outdoor seating was plentiful, and we loved being in the tops of the trees. We did get a weak cell signal too in certain areas, so we were able to make a few needed phone calls. The owner was prompt, accomodating, and helpful.Did you find this review helpful? My family and I stayed at the Rhoades Retreat for Labor Day weekend 2012. I would highly recommend this three bedroom, 2 bath house. It is clean and organized. The only drawback is the very steep, narrow driveway. For the money, I rate this vacation rental a 4.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Jeff's listing information is 100% accurate. The cabin was clean, neat, and very well-maintained. Jeff is a cordial host, who went more than a step beyond normal to ensure that our stay was absolutely special. My step-son and his wife, traveled with me and my wife, and enjoyed the second bedroom. My son-in-law was our chef for the steak and potato cook out. Despite there being 10 at the cook out, we were not crowded or crampted. My granddaughters enjoyed the air-hockey table in the game room/third bedroom. The only negative was the driveway. Although it was steep, we were able to overcome it's difficulties with a little practive. Even though We lost one night because the road from Lake Tahoe south was closed due to an accident, the two nights we had were the best nights of sleep, in an eight day trip. I would recommend this true "retreat" to just about anyone! My wife and I, along with her youngest son and his wife, spent our time with my son his wife, my two granddaughters, and my daughter and her husband, my son-in-law. We visted an aviation museum outside Sacremento. The museum had a C-119 aircraft, which my Dad flew in similar ones in the 1950's. There were other Helocopters and aircraft from my era, Viet Nam. The price, guides, and aircraft were well worth our time and interest. Thanks again Jeff, for very special stay. We look forward to staying with you in the future!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We stayed for a few days during January to snowshoe in the Sierras. The house was clean, with a well-stocked kitchen, soft couches, and a lovely deck. There are lots of large mirrors that make the house glow with outside. It's homey and comfortable with plenty of space in the living room for board games and an outdoor play area for the kids. The driveway is steep and very slippery when wet/icy....not suited for people without good mobility in the winter, but our group of able-bodied outdoors folks all did fine. Jeff was thorough and quick about the logistics. I hope we'll be back soon, maybe in the summer for the nearby hiking opportunities!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.

We spent 6 days during the summer at the "Retreat". The cabin was everything as advertised and more. We did have an uninvited guest though. Each day we returned from one of the many things to do nearby, we had a buck resting under the front deck of the cabin. Pretty special. We love the location of this retreat. Close to wineries, the lake, (which is a beautiful hidden gem itself) and Apple hill. Our kids wanted to see where the 49er Gold Rush started, so we visited Sutters Mill which is close by. Really enjoyed that as well. If you enjoy privacy, clean accomodations without having to put up with pet odors etc. this is the perfect spot!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We recently spent six days at the Rhoades Retreat and look forward to a return visit. The house is exceptionally clean and the deck and grounds are well-cared for; we really enjoyed the spacious deck and hot tub and the great views and privacy in the trees. The full kitchen, as well as the rest of the cabin, is very well equipped and we found everything we needed. The owners are friendly and accommodating and were quick to answer our questions; we found everything to be exactly as stated in the listing. We enjoyed hiking around Jenkinson Lake (the boat rentals were closed for the season) and in nearby El Dorado National Forest. There are many wineries within a short drive (we recommend Miraflores for their luscious 2005 Zinfandel and interesting Tuscan-style buildings). We also enjoyed The Mandarin Chinese restaurant in Pollack Pines—it’s much better than most we’ve tried in major cities. We found Rhoades Retreat very reasonably priced and highly recommend it. Whether you’re looking for a quiet respite or a base for exploring the nearby recreational opportunities, you won’t be disappointed.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We really enjoyed the "Rhoades Retreat". Very clean, lots of trees and wildlife! One reason we picked this cottage was because of the proximity to beautiful Jenkinson Lake. After a full day of boating, we retreated back to the cottage on the hill! We will be back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My wife, my daughter and I, we all had a wonderful time at the "Rhoades Retreat". We enjoyed every aspect of your cabin, wild life near the cabin, and spending time at the Jenkinson Lake, swimming. We had no regrets renting out your cabins, for whatsoever. We love it very much that next time we're going to extend our stay. We're also spreading the word around about your retreat. Thank you & your Staff.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities.
