One queen sized bed full of pillows, which also is your couch, was made from old doors we found in the house. It's the nest. Armoire with shoe rack and nice hangers, chest of drawers with shelf paper, baskets for clothing, huge pillows to sit on. Nice sitting area to enjoy talking or reading and a glass of wine or cup of tea. Great lighting. Cool art. Comfortable, happy and clean. Jamaica Plain is a self contained town within the city of Boston. It is surrounded by the amazing and lovely Emerald Necklace, a linked series of parks that includes ponds, an arboretum, a zoo, a golf course, many tennis courts, and so on. JP is well-loved by those who live here and visitors for its richness: diversity, food, accessibility, the scene, architecture, green space, biking, dogs, music. It's the chic place to live in the region.
Year Purchased: 1998
About: Travellers and art lovers, we grew up in the country but love the city!
Why Boston: Trained as an architect, my husband wanted a bungalow! This is a glorified one with three floors. Our last house was an 1806 beauty on the Narragansett - my choice - so it was his turn.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio: We love feeling as though the city is very, very far away - even though by car it is 5 or 10 minutes. This area is extraordinary for its parks and amenities, its rich history and richer cultural assets, including people, and the 5 minute drive or quick public transportation to downtown Boston. We have lovely, big garden, as do all of our neighbors. Accessing highways is quick and simple; there is tons of shopping, of course; and an amazingly rich music, art, theater and dance scene. Beaches on the bays or the ocean are quite close and we often go to Maine, New Hampshire, the Cape and Rhode Island just to hang out, do chores, and see friends and family.
