Like other reviews have stated the photos do not do this justice. It really was perfect, the location excellent, loved listening to the music whilst sipping a glass of wine and watching the amazing sunsets. The house had everything one needs and more. Kayaks delivered to the house by Backcountry Cowboy. Had a fantastic fishing and snorkelling trip out of Robbie's with Captain Brian. Being from the UK it was great to see so many different kinds of birds, fish and especially the Manatees! All in all a fantastic time - even the storm was exciting! Would love to return and hopefully we will! Excellent communication with the owners who were very helpful with information etc.

Great Week at the Happy Tarpon
Great Week at the Happy Tarpon
My sister and our husbands and our parents just spent a great week at this home. Everything about this home is exactly as described, if not better. Layout is great for multiple couples, with each bedroom having its own bath, plus the half bath with the washer and dryer. The weather was perfect and the Islamorada area was nice. The rental experience was smooth and owner provided all information needed for home, plus extra information on the area. The pool was perfect. There was nothing better than sitting by the pool with a drink and watching the awesome sunset. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing, worry free vacation.

Terrific Vacation Rental
Terrific Vacation Rental
Six of us spent the week here in mid-August 2012. First the house itself: The pictures do not do the house justice in my opinion. It is a very spacious 3 br with all 3 bedrooms having their own bathroom and another 1/2 bath in the living area. The bathrooms are all re-modeled and in pristine condition. There is a ton of space for your clothes, luggage, dive gear you name it. There is also a huge pantry that will hold all your dry food and then some. The living space downstairs is open and has plenty of room for 6 adults to eat, mingle and relax. The furniture is both comfy and new. The kitchen was well appointed with all the pots, pans and utensils needed to cook any level of meal. We cooked every day and never needed a thing. There are two bedroom's upstairs and one down stairs. The upstairs has a great sitting area between the bedroom's with a couch and a tv. Perfect place for kids to hang out and it gives the upstairs folks some space between rooms. The Location: I cannot say enough about where the house is located and the lot itself. If you have ever been to the Lorei Lei you will love this location. In 3 minutes you can walk there and in 5 minutes you can have a Key Lime Colada in your hand while you enjoy the view of the Gulf. It really is that close. But do not worry that it is too close because the way the house is situated you feel very private. The house is at the end of a wooded lane and is quite secluded. The actual lot itself is amazing. The view is to the west and the sunsets over the Gulf are spectacular. The Lorei Lei has been voted in the top 10 sunsets in the world. This house has the same exact view! There is a deck that extends out over the water that is good for fishing or just watching the boats go by. We saw manatee's and tarpon from the deck not too mention caught magrove snapper and plenty of pinfish that we used for bait. The other side of the lot has a concrete dock that we easily kept a 25' Dusky. The pool area is re-done with very nice pavers. The pool is perfect with a sundeck for the kids and several benches for adults to sit with a cold beverage. The overall location of the property could not get much better. You are a quick ride to the grocery store or a short walk to a small market. Plenty of great restaurants nearby (must go to Chef Michaels). This is a dream location and a terrific home. Owners were so nice too! We will be back as soon as possible!!

This house was perfect!! We completely enjoyed our stay there. House has everything you need and then some. Dockage was perfect for our 24ft center console too. Sunsets on the deck with a cold cocktail were incredible! We come to the keys for vacation every year and we will be coming back here!!

Amazing! Our family spent a week at the Happy Tarpon in July 2012 and had our best family vacation yet! My husband and I took our two daughters, 4 and 6, and having the pool with the girls was awesome. The location of the house was ideal with the bay on one side and the canal on the other. We had with us our paddle board and a 17' boat and were in our own paradise. Manatees came to the dock just in time for sunset. The house was beautiful, comfortable, and extremely clean. The property was nicer than even shown in the photos. The owners were responsive to any questions and so nice. With the girls, had different adventures each day... snorkeling at Indian Key, swim with dolphins at Theater of the Sea, visited turtle hospital in Marathon. Great dinners at Lazy Days and Morada Bay. Breakfast at Bob's Buns. Cannot wait to go back.

We just came back from a wonderful week at the Happy Tarpon and would definitely recommend it as a great place for a holiday. We were traveling as a family group with our two young adult children and their spouses. The house is arranged beautifully giving each couple their own space (and bathroom) while leaving a comfortable common area for games and meals. The sunsets off the dock each night were amazing and one evening we even saw a few dolphins jumping past in the last light. My husband and I both love to stand up paddleboard and the canals and flats nearby were perfect for this while the water was very calm. The friendly local manatees visited our dock and the kids were thrilled to see them. Some of us even visited Theatre of the Sea nearby. Despite having no young kids we enjoyed wandering around the intimate setting and watching the animal shows. We ate at Lorelie's one night but found the live music too loud to have a conversation. It was much nicer to listen to the music from our own dock and eat take out. The one disappointment was for my husband who did not find as many fish as he had hoped but he still had a good holiday exploring the flats in his inflatable kayak. We also rented a boat out of Robbies to do some more fishing and explore the mangrove canals. We really enjoyed having the pool to cool off in as needed All in all it was a great setting for a relaxing and fun break from the real world.

Great Family Vacation Home
Great Family Vacation Home
We just recently returned from a fun trip to the Florida Keys! Having never been there and not knowing what to expect we were very pleased with our choice of places to stay. There are a lot to chose from on VRBO! The Happy Tarpon proved to be an excellent choice. The house is private with a beautiful view of the bay with it's sailboats and beautiful sunsets, lots to look at and relax. We had some of our family down for a visit and two small Grandchildren, it worked perfectly for all of us. The heated pool was great for the children with shallow areas that were fun to play in. We rented a kayak that was delivered right to the house and everyone enjoyed paddling the canals and bay. The Theater of the Sea is five minutes away with it's Dolphin and Sea Lion shows . There are some really good restaurants in Islamorada very close by. Key West is about an hour and a half to the south and the Everglades an hour to the north and we went to both for an all day trip. The owners of The Happy Tarpon were easy to communicate with and were very helpful in answering all our questions. The house looks just as it is pictured above but I would say it's even better than the pictures. It has a long private drive and you really do not see your neighbors on either side. All you see is the great view from the pool out to the bay where there are boats coming and going and lots of beautiful Florida birds. In our kayak we even paddled right next to a Manatee as he slowly swam in the canal. We were very pleased with our choice of The Happy Tarpon for our Florida Keys vacation!

About the owner: I grew up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with a passion for fly fishing. I own and manage Snake River Angler, the largest fly fishing outfitter in Jackson Hole and in Grand Teton National Park. I operate two retail fishing stores and employ 20 full time Wyoming fishing guides. My love of fishing and the ocean led me and my family to Islamorada for the best in salt-water fishing. My wife loves to fish and the 5 children often go out in the boat with us.
Why the Owner Chose Islamorada:
I walked into the back yard of 118 Madeira, stood on the dock and saw a manatee swimming in the canal. I could also see schools of big mangroove snapper hanging out by the pilings. I have fished all over the world from Belize to Mongolia. I could not pass up the chance to buy Happy Tarpon after 22 years of visiting and fishing here. Islamorada is unmatched for the variety and access to backcountry and offshore fishing anywhere in the world. It is also a peaceful, private location for the family. Islamorada is good for the fisherman and the family with all the activities available in the area.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The variety of water activities is boundless with snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, stand up paddle-boarding, boating, wind surfing, kite boarding, fly fishing, reef fishing, and offshore ocean fishing. The beauty of the Everglade National Park is right out the back door. White herons sit on the edge of the pool and look in our living room window (!!) and the manatees come and visit regularly all winter. Ever since I saw my first 100 plus pound tarpon jumping out of the water with my fly in its mouth I have been in love with Islamorada and the Florida Keys.
