Classic Coastal Farmhouse

Half of a large, classic salt water farmhouse. With approximately 1500 square feet, the space contains two bedrooms, the master up a steep old fashioned stairway with an ensuite full bath, and queen bed, the other bedroom downstairs off the large high ceilinged living room. The downstairs bedroom with a full bed is served by a nearby half bath and has a great outdoor shower, an experience not to be missed. There is also a queen sized sofa bed and two extra singles. The living room enjoys lovely views of hayfields and spruce forests, and has a small front gravel terrace with a table and chairs for outdoor dining as well as lounge chairs. The space has heat, for the colder seasons, and its own private entrances and gravel parking area with space for several cars. The caretakers living in the other half of the house are excellent chefs and are happy to provide their services for hire. Their repertoire is extensive, from sushi to Italian and most everything between.
After a short walk through spruce forests and fields you arrive at a pristine estuary. A perfect location for kayaking, swimming, bird watching boating and fishing. Kayak rentals are available in town. It is the perfect place to relax and recover from a busy life. Rockland & Thomaston are a pleasant 15-25 minute drive away. There you will find boutiques, award winning restaurants, and museums as well as the fleet of antique schooners that ply the waters of Muscongus bay.

couldn't pass up the chance to share how wonderful the host and the accommodations were, despite my fear that all persons looking for a relaxing, warm, and inspiring get away in the mid-coast region will want to flock to this delightful farmhouse. two big dogs and a two year old arrived in the autumn rain and david said "welcome, no worries"! we were made to feel right at home despite our motley crew and the wet, muddy conditions. artisan breads and stories of the home and community were shared upon arrival and potatoes from the garden were given as a parting gift. we spent the early morning watching the sunrise from the barn and the dining room table asked us to sit for hours to catch up on conversation in the evening. the pictures and other reviews encouraged us to try a vrbo (our first experience) and although these were great, the feeling you get when here is indescribable - still having sweet dreams about this adorable abode. a wonderful spot that we feel lucky to have had the opportunity to experience!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

It is essential to point out that upon the approach to the farm, you will travel through miles of unspoiled Maine landscape, and when you finally reach your destination you will be enchanted by the almost fiction-esque quaintness that exudes from the farm itself. The house sits, surrounded by fields that, daily, we watched wildlife wander up and down, unaware of the world around them. My husband, one year old son, and I called the farm our home from 8/4 to 8/11, and it served as a base of operations for our very first trip to Maine. As we arrived, we were greeted by our hosts, Paul and David, who eagerly gave us a tour of the living space and added anecdotes about the history of the home, as well as the process by which the house came to be a vacation rental. Simply stated, the house is “antique chic,” with the vast array of décor and furniture from a time long past. There are modern touches, but these only add to the eclectic charm. The appearance of the house is as inspired as the hosts. Not only were Paul and David a complete delight to rent a vacation home from, but they were also lots of fun to hang out with! An additional advisement would be to allow the other residents, Matt and Rena, who happen to be professional chefs, to prepare a meal for you. Their delectable samplings served as the perfect ending to a perfect coastal vacation experience. Finally, the home is centrally located to many attractions that should not be missed on a trip to Maine, in my opinion, however if you are looking for a simple, peaceful retreat, then this home is pure perfection.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

As this was my first online rental and not knowing exactly what to expect, I must say that within moments of arriving at Paul & David's in Friendship, my teenage granddaughter and I felt at home. The listing description and the photos were exactly what we found and we were able to settle in right away. As this was a return visit to Maine for me after 14 years--but my first to Friendship, I found the location central to all that I wanted to see and do. My youngest son and his son spent the second week with us--their first time in this beautiful state and they, too, were able to experience the best of the best. Paul was able to make arrangements for my son to spend a day on a working lobster boat, making the wish of a lifetime come true for him and one that he will NEVER forget. Will we return? Yes...yes...yes, indeed! Thank you, again!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

Let me begin by stating that we have never rented a vacation home before. We were warned by friends that we would never find a house good enough for our discriminating taste. Once we opened the front door to this jewel box of a house we knew that they were quite wrong. The photos above do not do justice to the charm that this house exudes. The furnishings are beautifully appointed, the decor the epitomy of country chic, cabinets well stocked, bed linens lovely. A fabulous kitchen, complete with a Vulcan stove, invites you to whip up a country breakfast each morning despite the fact that i said I was not cooking on vacation! You needn't bring a thing with you - it is all there. The location is perfect for day trips in all directions. So much to do we ran out of time despite the fact that we extended our stay by two days. ( we did not want this vacation to end) We will have fond memories of my husband and I cooking with the cast iron pans, my son swinging on the barn swing, our puppy scampering in the garden and each night ,my son and I curled up on the day bed, me reading to him as the sun set out the window .....priceless....This is a special place that I hope to return to often.....our hosts, Paul and David, could not be more lovely and accomodating......Do not think twice about trusting your vacation to them or their wonderful home.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: It was such a pleasure meeting your family and little Percy too. I am glad that we were able to help you have a fun and relaxing stay and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Paul and David

We spent a week in August at this spot and it far exceeded our expectations. coastal Maine is a fabulous place to be, but the owners of this renovated farmhouse have taken special measures to make sure that you are spending some time in a home that is comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and a pleasure to be in. For those that like to eat at home- this a chef's delight-replete with good cookware and a nice working kitchen. The decor is way above "beach cottage". Paul and Dave are about the most pleasant home owners I have ever met and this spot was about as relaxing and perfect a vacation as one could ask for.Did you find this review helpful?
