My wife and I stayed here in October to celebrate our two-year anniversary. After finding the property on VRBO, we were quickly contacted by the owner, and the process to secure the property was hassle free. Excellent start. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. The cabin is wide open w/ tall ceilings, breathtaking views of the valley below and Skyline Drive above. Everything was impeccably clean, bright & shiny. The hot tub is super warm and cozy 24/7. The kitchen has a lot of the little extras that you'll need when cooking, but I'd still come well-stocked just to be on the safe side. The location is perfect as well; 10-15 minutes to the city of Luray (adorable) & 20-25 minutes to the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah. They seem to be completing the basement to the home, which will make this cabin amazing for larger parties. It's perfect, however, as it stands for a couple with some kids or maybe two couples. There were a couple downers about the home. A tiny issue, but interesting nonetheless, the dishes are not microwave safe. They've got a metal decorative ring in them. It's certainly not the end of the world if you bring tupperware or pyrex or something. If you don't, you might be out of luck. Secondly, and most importantly, the driveway to get up to the house is steep, rutted out and covered in loose gravel in many parts. It's not paved as of 10/11/2012. It's dirt & gravel. We have a Prius, and we were unable to get the car to the top of the hill. Maybe 30 feet after making the turn onto the driveway, the car bottomed out and the wheels just spun. There is a little spot at the base of the driveway where you can park, but it's about 240 paces (I counted) from the bottom of the driveway to the cabin. Carrying two suitcases, dragging a cooler, etc. That was not at all what I was expecting, and a heads up from the owner would have made a world of difference. If you've got a truck, SUV, bigger sedan, four-wheel drive, etc, I'd imagine you'd be fine. What's more disappointing is that I wrote the owner about this after we came back from the cabin, and I have not yet heard anything back about it. No apology, no explanation, no nothing. I get that there's nothing he can do about it now, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a little better customer service. Now having said that, again, the cabin is awesome. Clean. Warm. Fun. I'd go back in a heartbeat once the driveway is fixed or I buy a truck.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing.

Just got back from the most relaxing weekend I have spent in months. My boyfriend and I so needed a romantic weekend alone away from all the worries back home. We totally loved this peaceful place. This cabin is sheer luxury, immaculate with a wide open layout. The kitchen is top of the line with granite counters, deep sinks, pull out faucet, hardwood floors throughout, ceiling fans with dimmer switches everywhere, a coffee maker a stainless carafe that keeps the coffee fresh. Tile floors in the baths, comfy mattresses, extra comfy sectional couch with plenty of room for two to really sack out, large windows beside a beautiful stone fireplace overlooking the mountains. David, 1 of the owners, was quite accommodating & super responsive to our every request including our last minute reservations. When we arrived there was surprisingly gluten free and healthy goodies, drinks and flour. This worked out quite well as my boyfriend is gluten intolerant. Our three cattle dogs enjoyed the covered deck, the freedom of being safe off leash. I enjoyed the large and new hot tub with a couple of glasses of wine, music from my ipod connected to the built in speakers in the hot tub. It was so relaxing with many jets on all my tense and sore muscles while gazing at the stars, no traffic sounds just nature. There were country roads with friendly people who stopped to talk and many you passed waved. In town we took a lovely walk on the Hawksbill Greenway where you and your pets can cool off in the water, watch and feed the ducks, walk from there through town, have lunch on one of many picnic tables and benches in the sun or shade. The town has many quaint little stores, restaurants, a movie theater. Many of the buildings there have beautiful rural murals. We also found Lake Arrowhead on our last day which rents paddle boats, canoes, and you can fish, picnic and walk. We enjoyed leisurely car rides looking at the farms, horses, gardens, and homes. Most every place was well kept, horses and cattle plump from summer grazing. We will definitely be back in the fall to enjoy hikes in the Shanandoah National Park, dinner at The Victorian Inn, Sunday brunch at the Mimslyn Inn, fishing, massages, privacy, and browsing all the local shops and art gallery. Thanks to David for making our stay so enjoyable with a great and private cabin with all the special touches. Everything was as advertised and exceeded our expectations!
