Casa Burrell, a very special home designed by the distinguished architect, Henry Ponce’, was built in the late 1800’s. Sample life in Merida’s historical Centro from the comfort of this architectural design winner. The moment you pass through the front doors you will feel the seamless merging of authentic Colonial architecture with the finest the 21st century has to offer. The murals in the living room and dining room were lovingly restored by Mr. Ponce’ when he remodeled the home several years ago. They are a constant reminder of this home’s link with Merida’s fascinating past.
Perhaps the best part of the home for most visitors, however, are the outdoor, poolside living and dining areas. They are the new heart of this warm, inviting home. The outdoor dining table, only steps from the modern, fully equipped kitchen, is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee. Here you can watch for tropical birds and enjoy the vibrant flowers while the gently bubbling fountain gurgles in the background .
After a day of exploring Merida’s museums, art galleries and historic buildings, return to relax by the pool. The outdoor living room is the perfect spot for afternoon cocktails and snacks. Or maybe your thing is just a quick refreshing dip in the pool before heading back out to explore Yucatan’s beaches, haciendas, Mayan pyramids and quaint villages.
However you choose to spend your days in Merida, you will appreciate returning to the comfort of the king-sized beds, luxurious linens and comfortable, modern bathrooms. This home has everything to make three couples or a family of six feel pampered.

We loved our stay at casa del sol. The furnishings were beautiful. The outdoor living areas were perfect. We were traveling with two teens and they had their own room and bathroom. The house was within walking distance of the things we wanted to do while In Merida. We would certainly stay at this property againRecommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: That's great, I'm glad the house worked out for you. I hope you can come back again. John

As the photos show, this house is simply stunning, and furnished with professional panache. It is very spacious, with three generous-sized bedrooms and (if I haven't left anything out) seven public rooms. We loved the several liminal spaces, open to the open air yet (except for the pool area) covered overhead. Actually the house was remarkably comfortable even when it was blisteringly hot outside. The three bedrooms have AC units and the other spaces don't, but all of the house was a real sanctuary in the heat. Breezes, few bugs (in January). The immediate neighborhood is far less classy than the home's interior (but it isn't dangerous, and we had agreeable interactions with various neighbors). It's a changing neighborhood, but it has far to go. Be prepared for litter, building debris, plenty of dog dirt, and a rather bleak view from the front door. I say this not to discourage you from this very worthwhile rental but so that you aren't as stunned as we were on arrival. There aren't groceries in the immediate neighborhood, though several blocks away there's an emporium of mostly packaged foods. For general shopping--produce and such--we went to Walmart across the Paseo de Montejo. You'd want a car to carry several people's groceries that far. For all I know there's something much nearer but we didn't find it. It would have been helpful if, as we'd had renting elsewhere, there'd been a folder of information about nearby resources. We found the house spotlessly clean and supplied with ample linens. But I'd say that in spite of the obvious luxury of the renovations and furnishings, a few corners have been cut in the running of the place. The toilet seats were too small for the bowls, and the fitted sheets were skimpy for the mattresses, so that they tended to slide off. Those cushy pads you see on the poolside chaises, they've been replaced by flat ones that, once again, are too small. The flatware, glassware, and such were pretty limited. For the three bedrooms, we had only one working (universal) remote for the air conditioners, so we had to do a fancy dance to share them at night. These are tiny details: in general the home was gracious and comfortable, and it wouldn't take much to make it more so. And of course if this weren't a "luxury rental," I wouldn't have thought twice about these things. I'm a backpacker and can manage with very little when I expect to.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This home is very beautiful with tasteful finishes and is much more spacious than we expected. The three bedrooms have nice separation and there is plenty of space to spread out and take quiet time. The outdoor dining area was our favorite place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and take in the superb architecture and simply enjoy the unique feeling of this classic Merida home. The location was good and fairly close to Santa Ana Plaza where you can get great panuchos and fresh juices. From there it is another straight shot to the main square in El Centro. We walked all over the city from this home and had a wonderful time! Both Andy and Andrea were very accommodating and we will definitely look forward to another stay at Casa del Sol! Cheers!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: That is fantastic Melissa, we are so glad you enjoyed the house and Merida. If your travel plans include Merida in the future, please come and see us again. John
