This charming cottage offers everything you need for a quiet, peaceful vacation in the beautiful Berkshires, during any season. On a summer morning, you can sit on the screened porch overlooking lush trees, while sipping your morning tea and listening to the birds sing, or enjoy a glass of wine on a cool summer evening as the cicadas signal the autumn approaching. In winter, the wood burning stove will keep you warm and cozy after a long day of skiing or snowshoeing, or building a snowman in the front yard. Take a short walk down the road, past the llama farm, and around the bend to historic homes that date back to pre-Revolutionary War days, and into the Village of South Egremont, where you can pick up the newspaper and a quart of milk at the old country store, enjoy homemade pancakes and eggs at Mom’s country café, or dine on delicious local cuisine at the Old Mill. Whether you have a passion for nature, cultural arts, or history, this is the perfect place to stay year round.
Nature Lover's Paradise:
The location of this cottage is a nature lover's dream -- right down the road from the entrance to the Appalachian Trail, and close to many other hiking and biking trails, where you can marvel at the beauty of the Berkshire Hills. We even provide 3 bikes so you can take it all in. On summer days, you can enjoy kayaking or canoeing, or taking a dip in a nearby lake. During the winter, you are only 4 miles from Catamount Ski area or 7 miles from Ski Butternut. And there's nothing like the Berkshires in the Fall, with its majestic beauty from the colors of the autumn leaves. You can go horseback riding at a nearby stable, or even take a llama trek. With bountiful farms and orchards throughout the area, you can pick blueberries in the summer and apples in the Fall, and farmer's markets where you can get local organic produce during the harvest season. And right in our backyard, you may even catch a glimpse of wild turkeys marching across the lawn, or a deer ducking into the forest.
Cultural and Artistic Mecca:
Centrally located in the Southern Berkshires, this cottage is the perfect location to take advantage of all of the cultural gems this area provides. Summertime offers it all, from the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, only 30 minutes away; to Broadway-bound professional theater at the Berkshire Theater Festival in Stockbridge (20 min), Berkshire Fringe at Simon's Rock (10 min), or Barrington Stage (30 min); to cutting edge dance performances in a magnificent setting at Jacob's Pillow (40 min). Close to the Connecticut and New York state borders, you are only a short drive away from Music Mountain in and a variety of summer stock theater and concerts in New York State. There is also a first-run movie theater in Great Barrington, as well as the historic Mahaiwe Theater which brings in headline talent and live concerts as well as films all year round. Each Spring, the movie theater in Great Barrington is also home to the Berkshire International Film Festival.
Antiquing, History, Museums, and Dining:
The cottage is close to wonderful antiquing opportunities in nearby Sheffield, as well as many historical sites and museums. Visit the Normal Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, or drive up to Williamstown (1 hr) to the Clark.
There are also several art galleries and collections throughout the area as well. You can go back in time by touring The Mount, Edith Wharton's estate and gardens in Lenox, or visit Chesterwood, the home of sculptor William Chester French. There's no shortage of things to do in the Berkshires.
The area also boasts several fine dining experiences, including John Andrews restaurant 5 minutes away, and the Old Mill, walking distance from the cottage. Or for a more casual culinary experience, dine on local meats and fresh vegetables at the Route 7 Grill, or organic pizza at Baba Louie's in Great Barrington, just a short drive into town.

We spent a wonderful, relaxing three days at this cottage, which is well located near Great Barrington. The owner was extremely helpful in supplying directions and information about local shopping, etc. The house served as a great base to explore western Massachusetts - Great Barrington is the closest, but we were also able to visit Stockbridge and Lenox as well. It was nice to be within driving distance of major towns but also to be able to retreat to the quiet of this cozy cottage.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.

We had a delightful stay at this well appointed cottage in egremont. Suitable for a couple with small child. Small but not cramped. Comfortable screened porch overlooking private backyard. Well equipped kitchen. Half hour from tanglwood. Closer to great barrington which is a fun small town with good restaurants. Additional costs for cleaning and insurance bring the nightly cost up but still far better than inn or motel. Great addition of Stan across th street - oldest living resident in town who loves to read his poetry to you if you're game.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.

Had a lovely time exploring the Berkshires during our recent stay. Especially loved the screened in porch for breakfast and dinner as the overhead fan helped keep us cool. The cottage provided a perfect family reunion center for talks, walks, kayaking on a local lake, and discovering the Berkshires. The cottage is well stocked and well taken care of. Thanks for making the rental so easy/Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thrilled that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage, and it served as a comfy and convenient base for you to enjoy friends and family while exploring the Berkshires. Hope to see you back soon!

This house makes such a wonderful home-base for a lovely Berkshire vacation! It is a clean and lovely house with two very comfortable bedrooms, a well appointed kitchen, and the coziest living room and dining area. Our intergenerational family with two children fits very comfortably here. There is always so much to do here! The kids love to go to nature spots with creeks to play in and there are so many spots like that nearby. The cultural offerings of the Berkshires are famous and vast. And the food . . . if you love food, real, local, unadulterated food, this area is heaven. We are organic eaters, and the quality and variety of what's available is just unbelievable. The owners of the house are very conscientious and take wonderful, loving care of their vacation home. The level of service is amazing. And when we are here, we truly feel that we are in our home away from home.Owner response: We too are in love with the Berkshires and always thoroughly enjoy ourselves when we spend time in our cozy vacation home.

We enjoyed our brief stay here with our two-year-old son. The house itself is beautiful and the owners have thoughtfully left various books of general interest. The yard is great for kids to play in, and we were very close to all sorts of hiking. Thank you so much! Regarding bringing a kid: The second bedroom has a trundle bed which was terrific for a toddler--no worries about falling in an unfamiliar place. There was also a stool in the kitchen that worked for a high chair. It might be difficult to give a crawling infant or younger toddler run of the house (plenty of items within reach to mess with) but with a few toys from home we had no trouble. And the clips on the fridge are magic.Owner response: Kimberly, Glad you enjoyed our house. We have shared many great memories there with our own child, as well as our niece and nephew and are thrilled that you had the opportunity to make your own happy memories there too. Looking forward to your return! All the best, Ellen & Richard

My family had a wonderful stay at this lovely and extremely clean and well-kept cottage in Egremont. It was charming and cozy and seemed to have everything that a family would need. My teenagers felt so at home that they were totally content putting their feet up and reading or playing games, rather than nagging us to find them 'something to do'. There was plenty of space to spread out and each room felt inviting. The owner was very accommodating and responsive. They seem to have given a lot of thought to the little things and to lots of little 'extras' that visitors might want/need. We would love to return to this cottage. It's a few minutes drive into downtown Great Barrington and to all that the Berkshires has to offer. Aside from the more popular Berkshire activities, we had a wonderful time at a local 'pick your own' blueberry farm, only a 10 minute drive away. We went to a local driving range - about a mile away, and shot some golf balls for $5 a bucket. We drove to a nearby public park and played a few hours of tennis for free. Most memorable however, for all of us, was the brief time we spent with the warm, energetic and multi-talented caretaker of the property - a 90 year old lifetime resident of Egremont - who shared his beautiful poetry with us and took us on a nature walk nearby. All in all, it was a fantastic getaway.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: This cottage is very special to us and never ceases to "soothe our souls" and bring back fond memories of simple days gone by. A perfect place to relax and unwind, and get back in touch with nature, while at the same time offering plenty of opportunities to have fun and experience rich cultural events and recreational activities nearby.
