Simple one-bedroom cabins as they were built in 1930s
Location: Asheville, Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, USA (Just 5.5 miles from Center of Downtown Asheville NC) View Map
Accommodations: Cabins, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-55)
Step back in time to the 1930s, to an era when vacations were actually relaxing. Visit the Log Cabin Motor Court, a comfortably rustic icon of Americana, located just 2 miles north of eclectic and historic Asheville, NC, city limits. Visit historic sites or stay with us and live the history. The Log Cabin itself is part of a Hollywood icon, Robert Mitchum’s blockbuster1958 movie, “Thunder Road,” several of its scenes being filmed here.
Built in the 1930s, the Log Cabin Motor Court is comprised of 18 log cabins maintained in remarkable condition and comfortably nestled in the pines sloping up a sunny hillside, with names like “Hill Billy,” “Mountain Dew,” and “Moon Beam.” Just as different as their names is their size. Depending on your needs, one, two, and three bedrooms are available with rental rates from $65 to $125. The Black Bear Lodge, which sleeps 10, is available for $275 per night. Weekly specials are also available.
Cable TV, wireless broadband, refrigerators and coffee makers are in all cabins. Air conditioning is standard and many have wood-burning fireplaces or gas log stoves and kitchens. Complete accommodation setup is provided with linens, towels, and extra blankets. All you need to bring is your toothbrush and blow-dryer.
Vacation packages offered include the Biltmore House and Gardens Tour; Cold Mountain guided tours and whitewater rafting on the French Broad River.
Or just sit in a rocker out front and take in the many homey touches that make the Log Cabin unique (and an annual tradition for many), cozy up at the fireplace or visit any number of Western North Carolina attractions.
Located between U.S. 25 and U.S. 19-23, the Log Cabin Motor Court is a natural haven, but close to urban areas. Less than six miles to the center of downtown Asheville, with its abundant shopping, dining, arts, and entertainment, the world famous Grove Park Inn & Spa is less than 5 miles and the equally famous Biltmore Estate less than 8 miles. Take a leisurely stroll around Beaver Lake, less than 3 miles away or Lake Louise at just 6 miles. Picnic along the French Broad River at just 2.6 miles or cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway, just 10 miles away.
Other area attractions include: the quaint town of Weaverville, a few miles to the north: the 435-acre North Carolina Arboretum; and, the Pisgah National Forest, with numerous activities such as mountain biking, swimming, and hiking. Horseback riding and balloon rides are available in the area, as is skiing at Wolf Laurel Ski Resort , 19 miles away, or relaxing at the historic Hot Springs Spa, just 30 miles away. Within an hour or two drive are Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, Chimney Rock Park, Grandfather Mountain, the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, and, of course, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Make the Log Cabin Motor Court your jumping off spot for any adventure in Western North Carolina. A rustic stopover that time forgot will be a treat you’ll long remember. And while you can always stay in a typical “chain” hotel, why not enjoy the unique experience of spending time in history?
