Had everything the owner said it would, they were really easy and helpful to work with. Green Lake isn't secluded and this place isn't either. more of a developed lake with a town right there, rather than secluded northwoods. So if that's what you're looking for, it's great.

lake house in spicer
lake house in spicer
The house has 3 floors-the stairs are extremely steep for both going up and down. The bedrooms up on the very top floor have no bathroom up there as well-huge problem for anyone with issues climbing the steep stairs...I had The entire house seemed as if it had not been cleaned well in a very long time. There was an overall musty smell in the house. The middle level has the kitchen, a very small bedroom, the full bath and the small living room area. You can honestly feel the springs in the couch in the living area...it seemed so dirty and long over used, we didnt even want to sit on it. The blankets on the furniture seemed like they had not been cleaned in some while-same with the linens/quilts appeared overly used and not real fresh. The bottom level was so cold, we could not spend anytime down there at all-we never could warm it up with the heat. We realize we were staying there May 1 thru May 5th, but the docks were not even in the water-we had no clue that would be the case. The view is the one great thing with the house for sure. We walked down to the water-but again, anyone with any issues walking a steep hill-this is not the place to stay. Although we booked and paid for 4 nights, we stayed only one night. We felt very uncomfortable in this home-felt it really needed to be cleaned well, furniture updated, new and fresh linenes, heating improved for all levels. Our overall experience was not pleasant at all...what started out to be a nice 4 days on a lake house, turned out to us having to make other arrangements and still paying for this one. The house needs alot of TLC & cleanup and furniture improvements. The owner is very nice as I talked to her regarding the internet needing to be reset(no big deal)... but after only one night sleeping there, we moved everything out the next morning and left. We have never rented a house on a lake before, but we felt the pictures were misleading-no dock at this time of year to use(we might have tried to fish sitting on the dock)... we should have been told up front that it was not available. I could not recommend this property as is. The area is beautiful and again the lake view is gorgeous. People need to be told there is not a bathroom on the top level where most of the bedrooms are/and aware of the steep stairs. The linens/bedding need to be upgraded as well as most of the furniture. The kitchen looked ok-but we never used anything since we left after 1 night.

Owner response: I'm sorry our home didn't meet your needs. With the unusually cold and snowy spring, the ice left the lake very late this year. You were the first renter in since March and the house had just been opened up. Again, not having nice weather didn't allow for the "musty" winter smells to be completely aired out. We just put a new furnace in the summer before so I can only assume the vents to the downstairs were closed. The house was completely cleaned, dusted and vacuumed by a professional crew prior to your arrival. I had personally washed all the linens and sheets so I know they were clean. In hindsight, I really should have asked you about fishing & lake use expectations as I just assumed you needed to be in the Spicer area for another event and didn't even consider you'd be using the lake as it had ice on it only a few days prior to your arrival. With the ice still on the lake, it is not possible to put in the dock. Yes, we do have steep stairs down to the lake. I will look closely at the couch you mentioned to see if the futon mattress needs replacing and the other linens you mentioned. Finally, if I had known you were not happy during your stay, we could have communicated via phone as you had my direct line and possibly solved your issues on the spot or with a refund.
Green Lake Fishing & Fun
Green Lake Fishing & Fun
I have stayed at this Green Lake property many times and consider it to be an excellent fishing, swimming, and pleasure boating lake. Very good populations of Walleye, Northern Pike, and both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass are present. If you want structure, this lake has it all. Numerous rock piles, sand or gravel flats, and steep breaks are everywhere. All species can be easily caught by trolling crank baits, or using live bait rigs. Soft plastics work very well also. The Smallies run big, fight hard, and I have personally caught many in the 3-4 lb. range. If you want to swim you will find the water crystal clear with a sand bottom. If golf is your game, Little Crow Country Club offers 27 holes with beautiful fairways and well designed greens. It’s open to the public, has very reasonable rates, and is only a couple of miles away. Fun can also be found in the town of Spicer with dinner and cocktails at Melvin’s, O’Neil’s, or the Legion. A very relaxing vacation area!

Harrington Green Lake
Harrington Green Lake
The Green Lake Property is perfect for large families, and/or large groups, There are mulitple sleeping arrangements and the rooms are neat, clean and organized. This property is ideal for families with older children (over age 5). The view from the decks (there are two) are incredible. The lake is clean, with a sandy bottom. The hosts offered many water toys and our family had a great time! The only downside for our family, which was our fault, not the owners, was that our kids were a bit young for this type of cabin set-up in that the walk down to lake and the rocky shorline was a challenge for them. However, the outside loft for sleeping and beack/dock are perfect for families with older children who are more self-sufficient.. The owners have done a great job making the cabin feel like home. In addition, they were very accomodating and flexible and offered up many activities and places to eat within the town of Spicer. The owners went out of their way to make sure we were all taken care of. They were very easy to contact with questions prior to and at the end of the trip. We also really enjoyed the bike route around Green Lake. The backyard is perfect for bocce ball, bean bag toss, croquet, etc. There is a huge table available for family style dinners. One of our favorite parts of the home is the outside petticoat shower. We would recommend this property as your vacation for the summer!
