Antigua is also well-known for its Spanish schools where foreigners come to learn Spanish. Classes are available for 1 - 8 hours a day. We are happy to recommend a few schools for you. The city is also famous for the colonial atmosphere. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List, Antigua's historical center dates back to its founding in 1543, making it one of the oldest cities in the Spanish New World. Abandoned in 1773 when its inhabitants moved to Guatemala City, Antigua blends the old colonial architecture with our new lifestyle seamlessly. We stayed here over the Christmas holiday in 2012. The location is excellent, the house is very well maintained, and the owner is helpful and welcoming. The layout provides a lot of privacy for two couples and although only a few blocks from the parque central, the house is quiet. We used the kitchen and found it to be very well equipped with all of the basics and then some. We would highly recommend this house.

This house is located in the historic district. It was a pleasure to have tranquil breakfast on the roof top patio with the view Volcan de Agua. I can not think of a better way to start the day. We were able to walk all over Antigua, the location made that easy. The house was well equipped, the washing machine was a big plus. There also a variety of books that we enjoyed. I would rent this house again in the future. Our daughter-in-law arrived in the dark and when she woke up she found everything pleasing to the eye. As a first time visitor she was smiling like Buddha while sipping her Guatemalan coffee looking at Volcan de Agua.

We stayed at this lovely home for about two weeks in October 2011. We absolutely loved the home and Antigua. The house was cozy and had everything we needed. Because there were so many great restaurants within a few steps, we did not cook at home; but we loved it that the owner provided ground coffee available for us to enjoy each morning. The property was very clean and we grew very fond of the house keeper that came in five days a week. The owner met with us the first evening we arrived and filled us in on the information we needed to enjoy Antigua. There are so many fantastic restaurants in Antigua that is is hard to do recommendations; but we did love the Peruvian restaurant just a few doors from the rental home. The airport pickup arranged by the owner was on time and very safe. We love Antigua and will definitely return. We recommend this home as a great rental and in the price range we needed.

Owner response: Thank you SO much for posting this and we look forward to seeing you in Antigua again!

This is a beautiful and large house, just a couple of blocks from Central Park. There were fresh lillies when we arrived. It has 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. And a lovely patio upstairs with view of Agua, the volcano. The kitchen is fully equipped. There is a woman who comes and clrans the hiuse thoroughly every day. Definitely can recommend this house, definitely would go there again.

Several years ago my daughter & I rented Elizabeth's house for one week. It was wonder full . The decor is beautiful , my daughter was in awe when she saw the courtyard it was her first time in Antigua Guatemala and she is still dreaming to come back some times soon. My favorite is the bedroom upstairs with fire place and a door leading to the roof top balcony . Every night we had a fire as the evenings got cool and enjoyed a beverage as we watched the sun set. One day we got to meet the architect of the house. Very interesting to find out the history of this wonderful place. All in all I can't wait to come back again. sincerely Bruni

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 1972

About the owner: Elizabeth Bell moved from Palo Alto, California to Antigua in 1969 at the age of 14. She is dedicated to preserving the historical center of Antigua and has worked with historical preservation government agencies and private foundations over the past 40 years in creating the gem that the city is today. She has owned her Tour Operator in Antigua since 1992 and currently conducts cultural walking tours of Antigua and safe travel throughout Guatemala. While her expertise is Cultural Heritage Preservation and Tourism, she is also active local foundations dedicated to improving the quality of life in Guatemala mostly related to education and micro-credit and, in Antigua, a balance between historic preservation and economic development. She has been active in promoting Antigua as a premier destination. She is best known for her cultural walking tours and the publications – books and articles – that she has authored over the years.

                          Why the Owner Chose Antigua:
My parents purchased this property in 1972 before Antigua experienced the urban expansion that we see today. The 17th century walls were restored and we built a lovely new home around them. The house, renovated over the years, is a spectacular blend of the new and the old and located in one of the nicest areas of town. It provides all the amenities that you will enjoy during your stay. Antigua is truly a remarkable town and many visitors prefer to stay in a lovely home rather than one of the hotels in town. While you are one step away from many of the fine restaurants, you may enjoy the privacy of your own home and also entertain if you prefer.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The location and cozy nature of the house with its up-to-date amenities will provide for a VERY comfortable stay while you are in Antigua. Located two blocks south of the Cathedral on the Central Park, the house is inside the cobblestoned grid of the historical center – a few steps away from all the fine monuments, museums, Spanish schools, shops, art galleries, and markets. Antigua also offers yoga classes, salsa classes, personal trainers at the gym, and local tours of all varieties. The owner lives in Antigua and provides all questions about the city and any maintenance questions you may have. Grocery stores are near-by including one that has organic food and gluten-free groceries.
