If you are looking for a house that is off the beaten path that has all the essentials need in your vacation house to experience true colorado living, THIS IS THE PLACE!! The house is beautiful and stocked with all the cooking essentials needed to prepare all your meals easily, just make sure you do your shopping before you get here because it is off the beaten path. There were 8 guys in our party all of which hunt so we were trying to find all the wildlife we could which included wolves, foxes, turkeys, elk, mule deer, coyotes, pairie dogs, jack rabbitts, big horn but were sadden that we did not get a chance to see a bear or mountain loin. Fishing wise we fished several different places and caught lots of fish but as far as fishing Skagway and Beaver Creek (at your door steps) we did well there also. It snowed 6" one day on us and it drove the trout wild. We caught and released over 300 fish that day. They were jumping out of the water eatting snowflakes. It is worth the walk to the back side of the reservoir away from the dam because you will catch larger and native fish whoses colors were amazingly bright there. Beaver Creek was beautiful but not for the out of shape. The road gate was locked so it was a long walk or climb down to the stream, climb being the shorter but more adventurous way to get there. The scenery was well worth it and we caught some native brookies. It's just too bad the water levels were down, but that was everywhere, the fishing would have been even better. Our hats off to the owner and we graciouly thank you for the use of the house for our guys get away.

My husband and I decided at the last minute to drive to Colorado from Illinois for anniversary .The house and area were more than what we expected. The driveway is really steep and you need a 4x4.ours handled it fine with about 3 inches of snow on the driveway. We enjoyed not having cell phone service. We will definitely be back. Thanks for opening your home to us.

This was the perfect winter getaway for four adults and four children (ages 4-13). Given its more remote location, the view of the night sky is spectacular. Even better was the fact that we were nowhere near having to fight crowds on ski slopes. The location is about an hour's drive from Manitou Springs and its related tourist attractions. We also took the drive to Pikes Peak where we tried to look down (despite the cold) and find our lakehouse in the distance. And we had a great visit to Florissant National Monument where our children earned their "Junior Park Ranger" badges. Our contact person was absolutely wonderful about keeping us up to date on weather/road conditions as well as directions for finding the house. The two-car garage was also a huge plus.

You all were very creative in finding fun & unique things to do as well as scenic places to go. Hope you can make it back some time & enjoy a bit more of the beautiful Colorado outdoors! Happy New Year to ya!

My wife and I wanted to spend some time with our children away from our busy lives. All three of our sons are in the Army, with one leaving for Afghanistan in less than a month. We really needed that intimate family time and couldn't have picked a better vacation home to stay at. We enjoyed the wrap around porch with the most stunning views of Pike's Peak. The house was well stocked, we only had to bring our clothes and groceries. Wife commented several times on how well the kitchen was stocked (spices, cooking utensils, cooking ware), it was very well thought out. Plenty of wildlife; elk, mule deer, coyote, foxes, and chipmunks. We had a four wheel drive vehicle and needed it to get up steep driveway when it rained and snowed while we were there. Two wheel drive vehicles would be fine in good weather. Our cell phones did not work at the house, which was nice to get off the electronic leash for a while. i would highly recommend this rental home to friends and family.

A great big thank you to your three sons for their much appreciated service to our blessed country. May God protect them & bless them all!

We loved every minute of our stay at Aspen Lake House. We found it exactly as described.Everything was very clean. The towels and linens were all of exellent quality. We loved the kitchen, and the size of the table along with the counter stools allowed us to all eat together. The view was so amazing and we were treated to an awesome thunderstorm followed by a complete double rainbow set in front of the mountains. We enjoyed coffee on the deck most mornings and the guys fished at the reservior most evenings. We loved the solitude and the beauty of the area. What a great vacation!

Our stay was fantastic! The house was roomy and well stocked. The wrap around deck allowed us to be both inside and out, and the view of the mountains was fantastic!. We lacked for nothing in the kitchen and laundry room, which with a family is a big bonus. The master bedroom views were outstanding, and we loved the big tub. There were a lot of activities and interesting towns nearby. Working to set up the visit was easy, the owner helpful and willing to try to give us the best of experiences. The property was very clean and well maintained. I would recommend this property to anyone who likes to be in the beauty of nature instead of right in town. I would definitely go there again.

My family of 4 stayed here for a week in early June, and the house was better than we expected. The photos don't do it justice. There was more than enough room, and some bedrooms didn't get used. The house was immaculate, very cozy, with very tasteful decor. The beds were super comfortable, the bathrooms large and the kitchen well-stocked. The wrap-around porch was absolutely amazing, with an awesome view of Pike's Peak! There are lots of windows for great views from every room. It was so refreshing to open them at night and during the day for lots of fresh air. This home is more than worth the rent, and we definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from it all and experience the beauty of Colorado. We caught lots of trout in the Reservoir the second day there. The hike along Beaver Creak is gorgeous! We saw lots of prairie dogs, deer, birds, and wild turkey. The only suggestions I would make to anyone visiting are these: 1. Drink lots of water and bring lotion and lip balm, as the air is very dry at this elevation. 2. Don't do any strenuous hiking the first couple of days to allow your body to get used to the lower oxygen levels in the air. 3. There is no grill to use, so any cooking will need to be on the stove or in the oven, or bring your own charcoal grill. 4. Another recommendation is to do your shopping before you get to the house as it's a good hour drive to any populated towns with stores. We did our grocery shopping at the Walmart in Woodland Park. Overall, an excellent vacation home!

Owner response: Thank you Cynthia for your positive review as well as your excellent suggestions for folks not used to Colorado's altitude & dryness. People may want to bring a small propane grill to cook on the dirt driveway, away from under the wooden home. The excessive dryness is a safety issue as fires can start extremely quickly & take off with horrific results. Do not use charcoal for grilling. We sincerely thank you for staying at Aspen Lake House!

We hauled our family of seven from Texas to Colorado for spring break and all agreed that it was the best vacation ever. We spent most of the week just hanging around the house, with two excursions; one into Victor/Cripple Creek and one to Keystone for snow tubing. We enjoyed reading, building puzzles, hiking, ice fishing, cooking and just being together as a family in one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The house has awesome views from almost every room. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace as the March weather was dipping below freezing most nights. The house is very well built - we commented several times on how the heater did not run much and we were comfortable with no drafts felt. It is decorated beautifully and the kitchen is very well appointed with top of the line appliances and cookware. I highly recommend this property for a family getaway or romantic vacation. It is far enough away to be very secluded, but you can drive into Victor and Cripple Creek for museums, casinos, and other entertainment. There was not much going on there during our trip other than the casinos, but our focus was on family time. We do want to go back during a summer to experience the gold rush museums and tours. Word of caution... There is a five mile drive down a dirt road to get to the house. The road is well maintained, so this should not be an issue. However, the driveway up to the house is a steep climb ( and still a dirt road). There was still snow on the ground during our visit and our 2WD Armada couldn't hack it. I had to put chains on to get up the hill. With 4WD it should not be a problem. Also, the house sits at about 9200 feet. Coming from sea level, it took us a little bit to adjust. Summary - we would do it again in a heartbeat! This place is great and we will never forget the experience.

We had a great time at Aspen Lake House. The house is beautiful and comfortable and the location is private but easy to get to. Several of us went down to the reservoir and Beaver Creek and all enjoyed it! The house is wonderfully equipped; it was nice to use quality pots and pans instead of the left over tools we usually find in vacation homes. The beds were very comfortable; the bedding and towels were great. We all appreciated the encouraging verses throughout the house as well. We enjoyed our time greatly and we are already planning on going back.

                      Why the Owner Chose Victor:
We fell in love with this place when we saw the beautiful house tucked away in a valley with over 40 acres of aspen, blue spruce and open meadows. We enjoy the majestic views of the mountains, the serenity of overlooking Skaguay Reservoir and hiking in one of the prettiest valleys along Beaver Creek. The many custom features of the house were another attraction from the gourmet kitchen, to the spacious living areas, the huge windows and wide wrap around deck for relaxing outdoors.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The large wrap around deck affords expansive views of the mountains and lake. At 9,100’ elevation the house is wonderfully comfortable with gentle breezes and low humidity. The house is situated among the aspens with no other houses in view from the front deck which gives the place of sense of calm and serene seclusion. In the mood for a peaceful and quiet place to stay? Then this is the setting. Within walking distance of the house is Skaguay Reservoir and Beaver Creek, which are excellent for fly fishing for trout. There is canoeing and boating on Skaguay Reservoir and hiking, backpacking and camping in one of the prettiest valleys along Beaver Creek. Nearby are lots of activities from gold mine tours, hiking and mountain biking at Mueller State Park (over 5,000 acres of parkland) and horseback riding, exploring scenic byways and historic gold mine towns, white water rafting the Arkansas River, antiquing, shopping and more. The property is only about an hour and fifteen minutes southwest of Colorado Springs.
