Cheticamp house description
Relax on the deck and enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the warm Gulf of St. Lawrence or take a walk along the rocky shore. Most ocean front properties on Cape Breton Island do not have beach access, but this beautiful home is actually steps from the beach and only minutes away from golf, whale watching, salmon fishing, hiking, restaurants, sailing, tennis and snorkeling. It is right off the world famous Cabot Trial and only 15 minutes from the Highland National Park.
Oceanfront master bedroom with en suite jacuzzi, two further bedrooms, sun room and modern kitchen.
Well behaved dogs allowed, but sorry, no cats as the owner is highly allergic to them.

The week spent at this property was magnificent. The “cottage” was more than what was expected, which provided a level of comfort that only enhanced our stay. Given the natural beauty of Cape Breton, with immediate access to the hiking trails on the Cabot Trail, the location on this property allowed for days of exploring the area, while at the end of the day, enjoying the most stunning sunsets imaginable.

Wonderful stay in Cheticamp
Wonderful stay in Cheticamp
My wife and I stayed at this beautiful home when we were doing a rotation at the Cheticamp hospital. We loved having our own space and the property was beautiful. We also had our dog with us at the time and she loved being able to run to the beach so quickly. The bed was very comfortable and the master bedroom was quite luxurious. The bathrooms were very clean with plenty of towels. The kitchen was well equipped with nothing extra required. There was even a BBQ to use (as long as the wind wasn't blowing 90km/hr off the ocean! There was a flat panel TV, satellite service, a landline, and in ceiling speakers. There was plenty of cleaning supplies to tidy the house. The dishwasher worked great and we could even use the washer and dryer when needed. We also really appreciated the art throughout the home - most of it which was done by the owner! The only complaints I have were really minutia. I wish there was a BBQ lighter for the BBQ. We also ran out of some supplies (our stay was 4.5 weeks) and it was unfortunate to have to buy more stuff for such a short period of time. The house is heated with hot air, which can really dry your skin and sinuses at night. And finally, the water is quite hard and sometimes has a smell to it. It can also stain your white clothes! Really we felt quite at home here and would go back in a second. Amazing property, well built and designed house, and very friendly/easy to get along with owner! Thank you so much!

Owner response: Thank you for your review, I am so glad, for the most part you had a nice stay and I would like to comment on a few of your issues. The house was rented from the middle October to the middle of November and the winds can get very strong at those times and in the early spring as well.. Yes, the water is hard in the Cheticamp area but I have a $3000.00 system to take out the iron and a softener system as well. This system might not be working properly if your clothes are getting stained and I will see it gets fully serviced when I return in the spring. Even with that the water is still hard and I recommend buying drinking water. I also supply a half gallon in the fridge. Also you rented my home at a very reduced rate as it is was off season and took the house for about five weeks. I supplied two rolls of toilet paper for each bathroom and a new roll of paper towels as I do for each rental. That is what I believe you ran out of, nothing else and when you informed me of this, I was in the US and there was not a lot I could do about it. If I had been there I would have brought you more and if this is still an issue, please let me know and I will send you a check for what you had to buy. I am a single, non bar b q woman and I do not know what a bar b q lighter is, but I will check into getting one before the summer rentals begin. I want everyone to enjoy there time in my home and will always do my best to resolve any issue. Kind Regards, S Carpenter
The Grand Etang /Cheticamp area is absolutely beautiful. Sally's house is steps from the ocean. The beach is rocky but walkable. The water was warm enough for swimming, and became sandy as you walked in. We enjoyed bonfires on the beach while the sun set over the ocean. It doesn't get any better than this. The house is very roomy, the kitchen, dining area and great room open-concept design suited our large family. The pictures underestimate the spaciousness of this home. It is decorated nicely with very comfortable furniture. The master bedroom is lovely and I enjoyed waking up to the ocean view. You may have trouble entering the jacuzzi, if you have short legs. The other two bedrooms are much smaller but sufficient. The twin beds are somewhat hard, but suitable for children. The property is large and quite private. Our miniature schnauzer loved it! Thank-you, Sally, for allowing her to stay with us. We golfed at the Cheticamp course and would recommend it, especially the anniversary special reduced rate. We tried whale watching with Captain Zodiac, and saw tuna, dolphins and pilot whales, the ride in the zodiac was enjoyable as well. We also recommend the Skyline trail for the wonderful views and a moose sighting. We would definitely stay here again!

This spectacular cottage/home is simply outstanding! We found the location to be perfect for our "day trips" to the Cabot Trail and surrounding communities, beaches, Baddeck etc. It was reminiscent of a 5 star hotel with all the conveniences of home. It was beautifully decorated and adorned with artwork and photographs (much of which were from the home owner herself!) The kitchen is beautiful and well stocked with all the amenities of home (and a view of the mountains, which I don't have at home). It made cooking meals a pleasure. The beds were quite comfortable and waking up in the morning to the ocean waves and incredible view was priceless! We are so happy we chose to be close to Cheticamp (for dinners and activities) as it is the perfect place to start exploring the Cabot Trail and Cape Breton National Park. It also has several Whale Watching Cruise companies to choose from. We went on the "Love Boat" and were not disappointed! Sally was very accommodating and respectful in answering all of our questions and making sure we were comfortable. Do not hesitate to book this home for your Cape Breton vacation...it doesn't get much better than this! We would definitely return (maybe an Autumn vacation...we can only imagine the beauty of this area in the fall!) The views of the mountains, ocean and sunsets will forever stay in our hearts! It is clear why so many artists are drawn to this magical place. Thank you for everything Sally!

This house is beautiful, well appointed, and a perfect setting. You can truly walk out of your door and within 30 steps be at the ocean. The house is located for easy access to Cape Breton Highland National Park, and was the perfect size for our family of six. The deck looks out toward the ocean and every night the sunset was beautiful. There is also a small deck closer to the ocean, and a hammock tucked away in some old pines and flowers. We will go back to this house. We've stayed at other properties on Cape Breton and Prince Edward. This is the best home for access to the ocean.

About the owner: I am a contemporary photographer and dearly love Cape Breton and my oceanfront "Nirvana" which is what I call this home. The salt air and beach walks do so much for my creative soul, I wish I could live there permanently. I travel a lot and my Rhodesian Ridgeback is a great travel companion and it is because of her that I have decided to allow well behaved dogs in my home.
Why the Owner Chose Cheticamp:
I chose Cape Breton Island for this home as I wanted to be right on the ocean and I wanted the water to be warm enough for swimming, which it is! The Gulf Stream runs nearby and the water can get up into the 70's in August and September.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When I have been here for a week or so, it is extremely hard to leave....the sound of the sea, just sitting on the deck with my morning coffee and the creative energy I get from my beach walks and rock hounding are as they say, priceless! I wind down and seem to completely relax while I am here, not to mention the benefits of hiking in the National Park has on my health.
