Thanks for stopping by and welcome to The Dock House!!
The Dock House is a prime spot for family vacations. The mountain panoramic views are exceptional. We are located on pristine Nantahala Lake, which is the second highest lake east of the Mississippi, and one of the cleanest man made lakes in the world. Rising 3000 feet above sea level, the Mountain topography produces mild temperatures in spring and summer. Fall follows which a spectacular display of Mother Nature’s colorful artistry - as the autumn leaves turn brilliant hues of orange, yellow, crimson and gold. Winter has its own allure – providing visitors with a secluded idyllic winter wonderland.
The Dock House was custom designed to fit it’s surroundings and might be the closest home to Nantahala Lake. The deck is a mere 10 feet from the shore line which makes for an easy walk to the oversized dock. Also, nearly every room in the house has a view of the lake, including the master shower, hot tub area and the sauna. The tile and slate selected for the bath rooms enhances the feeling of warmth and serenity that the Nantahala area is known for. The Silestone counter tops and the gourmet kitchen make meal preparation a pleasure! We have spacious decks which are perfect for sunbathing, reading, relaxing and family outdoor gatherings. Our home is also equipped with a big screen TV and pool table. ! The unique 2 master bedroom plan makes it perfect for 2 cost conscious families that like sharing vacation time together. There's a bunk room that sleeps 6 and a loft that sleeps 4, so there's plenty of room for the kids!
The Dock House is truly a unique home. You can tell by looking at how the house blends in with the mountain side. The site was carefully selected for the optimum view and to harvest the magnificent red oaks which were milled into the extensive hardwood flooring and crafted into the beautiful hand rails in the foyer and loft. The post and beam interior was constructed from whole white oak posts and rough sawn white pine beams, which mostly came from the house site as well. The custom designed doors, kitchen cabinets and the one of a kind kitchen table were all hand made from an ancient black walnut tree that was blown down by a storm that passed through Andrews, NC in May of 2002.
The Nantahala area has a lot to offer families who want to create wonderful memories! Entertainment enthusiasts will enjoy the Mountainside Theater, located in the heart of Cherokee Indian Country. The theater is famous for its production of “Unto These Hills”, which is a live re-enactment of the story behind the Cherokee Indian historic “Trail of Tears” journey. Or, hop aboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad for your choice of scenic family train rides or romantic gourmet dining. The Railroad also presents a Mystery Theater dinner on select Friday nights. Sports fans will delight in nearby offerings of white water rafting, mountain biking, skiing, and hiking. If you are adventurous you must go rafting down the Nantahala River. It is one of the finest whitewater rafting rivers in the country. And, the Tsali Recreation Area is fast becoming a “Mecca” for lovers of mountain biking. Hikers of all ages will appreciate the world famous Appalachian Trial, which you can pick up with a short drive from home. You also don’t want to miss a drive up to the top of Wayah Bald, which offers stunning views for miles of the Western North Carolina landscape.

9 members of our family just returned from a vacation at the Dock House. It was absolutely wonderful. The house is a mixture of beauty and comfort. The lake is gorgeous, very clean and so clear you can see the fish! We were already talking about next year before we locked the door behind us. I highly recommend this rental. The house was all that was promised and very well kept. The owner provided great directions and lots of other useful information. It is fairly remote but there is a little store less than 5 minutes away with the basics. We actually planned to visit some of the local attractions-gem mining, cherokee casino, etc., but we were so relaxed and happy at the Dock House that we never left except for a quick run into Franklin (about 25 minutes) for more groceries. The house is very near the water so there is a steep driveway to negotiate but it is paved and there is a parking pad midway down for small 4 cyclinder front wheel drives.

My family stayed here last fall and had an excellent time at the Dock House. The photos on the website do not do the property justice as it is a bit larger in reality than it appears. We highly recommend a stay.

Beautiful home in a stunning location. Twelve of us spent Thanksgiving week at the Dock House. It's very spacious with superb amenities and spectacular views of the lake. A great home base to explore the region - hiking, canoeing and fishing are right at your doorstep. Historic Bartram's Trail is just down the street and the Lake's End Diner is right around the corner from the trail head - a great place to grab a burger after a hike in the mountains. Looking forward to our next visit.

Paradise! Un Real! Are the views from the house. In addition to the incredible views the house is very private and has everything you would need for your stay. We and the kids had a great time in and out side the house. Mike was kind enough to leave a canoe at the dock. The kids had a blast on the canoe and on the clan water of Lake Nantahala. NOC was not too far. Great place for white water rafting where my 7 year old had the adventure of her life. You can also capture amazing scenic view from WAYH BALD, 20 minutes drive. Grocery stores are 30 minutes away and we shopped at Andrews and did not trek to Franklin. We loved the small town feel of Andrews and the drive there. It was hard to leave and cant wait to get back!

Another couple and my husband and I just got back from a week at The Dock House. It is in a great setting overlooking the lake and mountains, with plenty of room and amenities to keep you busy. We took advantage of the hot tub and the sauna, as well as eating our meals on the huge deck overlooking the lake. In the mornings the guys built a fire in the chimenia which kept us cosy and warm in the cool mornings. The guys played pool and fished from the dock as well as going rafting. We visited all of the quaint towns around, and road the train, too, so we were busy when we wanted to be or did nothing but read, watch TV or play cards, if we wished. Michael, the owner, is great to work with, and we felt right at home. Go have fun, and see for yourself. Rebecca Tennessee October 2010

My family had the opportunity to stay @ The "Dock House" recently for 10 days-it was fantastic. On all levels it takes your breath away..the lake is clear, quiet and beautiful. The surrounding mountains are breathtaking. The house is just perfect with the right balance of amenites and size-class "A" . You will be delighted you made the choice to stay at this great place (every room has a view) tucked away so perfectly on the lake. Have fun exploring The Great Smokie Mountain Region of North Carolina! Cheers!

I have to look up The Dock House every time I am interested in looking at any rental on VRBO- even if I am planning a trip somewhere else in the country! This is one of my all-time favorite places- a stunning home with every creature comfort, with an incredible view and location. If you want to get away from it all and totally relax in supreme comfort- this is your place! I still have the best memories from my 3 different visits to this rental! It's great- and the owner is terrific! It's a perfect place for two families- or two people. Great design and great decorating- unbelieveable kitchen- killer decks- a fantastic dock- this is THE place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Dock House in July. It was the perfect setting for a reunion of 12 friends who wanted to cook, relax, and float in the lake with one another. With the amenities of the swim dock, kitchen, family room, sauna, and hot tub, there was always plenty of room to spread out on the property. The lake is not overly crowded with boat traffic, which allows for plenty of canoeing and floating.

What an awesome place! So relaxing and beautiful! We loved spending a lazy morning in front of the fire in the hearth room and canoeing on the incredible lake. Description of property is right one - driveway is quite a challenge but worth it! This is a must see property! Thanks and we plan on coming back again!

A plus!! The home is gorgeous and the views of the mountains are breathtaking. Every room (including the sauna and hot tub) has a view of Lake Nantahala. I especially enjoyed jogging on the many mountain trails and visiting nearby Wayah Bald Mountain. I also enjoyed the peace and quiet. My teenagers loved the lake and mountains, and playing pool and video games. There is something for everyone at the Dock House. We cant wait until our next visit!!
