I was on a one week business trip to Portland and wanted my wife to be able to enjoy the shopping and fun of the city from a central location. the Hopartment is in a great location, not too far out of the city, in a cozy neighborhood with walkable shopping and food. The apartment was exactly as it looks in the pictures, cozy and stocked with everything you need. We liked the closet and drawer space, as well as the upstairs loft. Everything was well placed and made us feel like home. Brian (and son) were a great hosts as well. He was very helpful in recommending local places to check out. The reservation process was also very easy to do. He was responsive to all my questions and made the payment simple. It seemed more like I was dealing with a friend than some stranger running a business. We look forward to coming back to Portland and staying here again. Both my wife and I loved staying at Inn Beervana and highly recommend it to anyone! Thanks Brian!

We had a great time celebrating my husband's birthday at Inn Beervana. The apartment is super cozy and the location was great! Really appreciated arriving to a carefully selected 6 pack of Oregon brews - very nice after a long drive. The weather was great, which made us appreciate the location that much more. Would love to visit again. Was great to be able to bring our pooch along.

The Inn was the perfect accomodation for our family of 4 (two kids under 10). For them, the highlight was the loft, which was nice and our 4 1/2yr old had no trouble on the ladder. For us, the location was ideal as we could explore the Hawthorne neighborhood on foot - although in our short stay, we barely scratched the surface. Access to the rest of Portland was a breeze and this area is central to it all. I was actually surprised that the living area was bigger than I had imagined based on the photos. The kitchen facilities were adequate and we cooked a couple meals during our stay. We also had a very friendly greeting on arrival from the owner and family and later a great chat about beer with the other owner. The 6-pack in the fridge was a most welcome bonus. Highly recommended. We would also highly recommend 'Fried Egg I'm in Love', 'The Waffle Window', and 'Dick's Kitchen' in the area. Hopefully, we can make it back sometime and check more things out.

Owner response: Thanks for the great comments and you know your hopartment away from home is always here for you to keep exploring, though we think you guys explored admirably for just a few days. Cheers.

This place was great! Convenient, central location in walking distance to everything we could ask for. The hopartment was super comfy for our family. We enjoyed the mixed 6 pack of craft beers left in the fridge for us upon our arrival. We will definitely be back! Thanks Brian and Kimberley!

Beervana is the place to stay! What a warm, comfortable, convenient place for a family of 4! It has all the amenities you could possibly need for a short or long stay. The bed is to die for; you just melt in and sleep like a baby. the loft was perfect for the kids! We found that Hawthorne is the most wonderful location to stay in Portland for its central locale and Beervana is a mere block away from the BEST restaurants and shopping. I just can’t get over shopping without sales tax! From the Waffle Window for breakfast (you must try the Farm Fresh Waffle) to Samui, the best Thai food I've ever eaten in my life (please try the Lemongrass Rice-wow). No matter what we did or where we went, Beervana welcomed us home. We will return to Beervana every time we come to Portland. It's so much better than any hotel and a great value for the price. Brian and Kim are wonderful hosts and their baby, Izzy, is the happiest baby I've ever met! We recommend Beervana to everyone!

Owner response: Dear Michelle, Thanks for your kind words and awesome review. We loved having your family stay here and get to explore both the eateries and I know a couple of the local beers, to boot. We promise you and your boys will have fresh waffles available just around the corner on your next visit.

The Inn Beervana was a wonderful introduction to Portland--its food, life, culture, and of course its beer. It is located in a beautiful, highly walkable neighborhood called Hawthorne full of history, delicious food, and lots of convenience (easy to get around, lots of stores in the area). The proprietors were extra-sweet and quite honestly they have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable one! The apartment has plenty of room, lots of local reading material, and great suggestions for food and activities. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Other than some gloomy November weather, our visit couldn't have been better. The owners were great to work with and check-in was a breeze. If you have a car and want to see more of pdx than downtown, this is the ideal place to stay. The Hawthorne/Belmont area is a great place to shop, eat, drink, and stroll. And with the free offstreet parking at the apartment, it's really easy to drive to other parts of the city should the spirit move you. The apartment is really well equipped and comfortable. While we didn't need to use the loft-bed space, it'd be great for kids! The main bed is super comfy and the seating area is really nice (we hosted visitors one night and it was really comfy). Only 2 small quirks worth noting: the bathroom is on the first floor and main living/bedroom area is on second. If stairs are an issue for you, fyi. The kitchen sink is also non-standard sized, so if you want to do a lot of cooking you may have a challenge washing big pots and pans. But, with so much good food around, there's little need to be cooking :) We were actually supposed to leave a day earlier, but couldn't help ourselves and ended up staying an extra day….staying here makes it hard to return to reality--the apartment. and location are so cozy and perfect that it's hard to return to reality. Really enjoyed the neighborhood -- Lucky Strike has the best Chinese food we've had in PDX, Hawthorne Hophouse has an impressive beer list, and Belmont Station...OMG...We might've spend our retirement savings; dangerous and delicious place (bottle shop and biercafe). We took our dog, and she too enjoyed the apartment and fenced yard, as well as some great dog walks at Laurelhurst Park and Mt. Tabor (both nearby). I wish I would've met the owners, but at the same time it's cool to have owners respect privacy (some VRBO owners can be really invasive:-). A great and much needed beercation.

Owner response: Dear Kristin, thanks for the fantastic review. We hope to see you guys back here (it was nice meeting Jeff briefly and our pooch loved saying hi to Enid, but agreed, it'd've been nice to meet you too). We love when guests take full advantage of the Southeast neighborhoods (easily walkable/bus-able for those without cars) and fill up at as many tasty spots as you guys clearly did. As for the unit itself, glad you appreciated sinking into that Tempurpedic. And we're considering if that sink needs changing since in addition to all the great restaurants and food carts around here, it's great when guests take advantage of the full kitchen. Incidentally, not sure what we did to deserve this, but it's perfectly sunny this late November morning. Hurry back.

After selling our house in Portland in preparation for a 2-year around the world trip, my wife, daughter, and myself needed a place to call home for the 6-weeks before leaving Portland and starting our adventure. Out of all the places available in Portland, we chose to stay at Brian and Kimberley's Inn Beervana, aka Hopartment. The apartment is very roomy and well equipped. Our 8-year old daughter made her home in the loft and loved climbing up and down the ladder. The beds were very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep every night we were there. The loft also provided enough space and privacy for the three of us. The absolute best thing about the apartment is the location. You truly do not need a car to stay here as you can walk, ride a bike, or take the Tri-Met bus. There is plenty to do in the neighborhood ranging from excellent restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and to several neighborhood parks. However according to out daughter, the best thing about the apartment is Dunkel. Dunkel is Brian and Kimberley’s very nice laid back dog. Sydney loved playing with Dunkel. Kimberly and Brian went out of their way to welcome us and to make sure that everything we needed was available. It was a wonderful place to call home for 6 weeks and we highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay there.

Inn Beervana is a great place in a great neighborhood! It was easy to get to (public transit from the airport) and there were lots of great restaurants and brewpubs within walking distance to keep everyone happy. Brian and Kimberly have a clean and very pleasant apartment with more than enough necessities to make your stay comfortable. It was enjoyable to talk to Brian about various beers in the area and even some in my home Wisconsin. If you get the chance, take a walk to the Bagdad Theater and to the Back Stage Bar behind the Bagdad on SE 37th - that was our favorite bar the two days we were in Portland. Not a lot of taps, but the atmosphere will blow you away! When we get back to Portland someday, we'll look up Inn Beervana for sure!

My husband, 1-year-old daughter, and I stayed at the Inn Beervana during our very first family vacation this summer. We are very active vacationers and love to get out and explore our destination, and the Inn Beervana was a great home base for exploring the city of Portland and the state. We traveled to the Oregon coast (Seaside, Cannon Beach, and Tillamook), Eugene (our stay coincided with the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials), and the Columbia River Gorge/Mount Hood area. At the end of a long day, it was so refreshing to come back to the "hopartment," which truly felt like a home away from home. (Other reviewers have mentioned the comfortable bed, and we can confirm that the bed is divine!) The location truly cannot be beat. Hawthorne is two short blocks away, and there are tons of restaurants, shops (including a Powell's Books location), and family-friendly pubs within walking distance. It's also very easy to get around town without a car, since there's a bus stop just a block or so down Hawthorne. Having the Fred Meyer's supermarket within such close proximity was extremely convenient, especially with the little "emergencies" that pop up when you've got a toddler! Brian and Kimberley were also exceedingly hospitable and welcoming, even helping to set us up with a babysitter so my husband and I could have a couple of date nights. We loved our trip so much that we are seriously considering relocating there from Texas. We can't wait to see Brian, Kimberley, adorable Izzy, and of course sweet Dunkel, the family dog, on a return trip (maybe as a home base for a house-hunting trip)!

I'll start off my review by saying that we enjoyed Inn Beervana so much that we stayed an extra night. Then after that night, we still didn't want to leave, but due to jobs, plane tickets, and such....we had to return home to Michigan at some point. Location, location, location! This quaint and cozy two-story garage apartment is in the best location in Portland. We didn't need to drive anywhere once we arrived, except for our ex-PDX adventures to the Gorge for hiking and the Willamette Valley for pinot tasting. Brian and Kim have pulled together an entire booklet of places to see within 2 miles of the Inn, breweries around Portland, and many of the great places to eat. If you're active and need to burn off all of the calories from the beers and food cart delicacies, Mount Tabor and Laurelhurst parks are nearby for running and hiking. If you still haven't found what you're looking for, the knowledgeable Portland guru's of the Inn Beervana will provide even more recommendations. Back to the accommodations...there was a mixed six-pack of local beers chilled in the refrigerator when we arrived. It was a refreshing assortment of IPA's, stouts, and summer ales that we sipped on while pondering our daily agendas. The place seems recently renovated and extremely clean...and the bed was THE most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. They have paid attention to every detail and it made us feel at home. Well, except that we currently do not have a wall beautifully painted with hops at our house, but I have a feeling there will be a request for that some time in the near future. We arrived in Portland as tourists, and left feeling as though we stayed in the house next to our friends for a few days. We can't wait to go back!!!

Owner response: Thanks, we loved having you guys stay here. You did PDX up right! Laissez les bons temps rouler.

Brian, Kimberly, Izzy and Dunkel were wonderful hosts! We loved the custom six-pack of craft brews greeting us in the fridge. We brought our boys (7 and 4) up to Portland for a long weekend to visit family and were fortunate enough to find Beervana. It is a warm, cozy, home away from home space conveniently located a one block walk to a prime Portland neighborhood. Our boys loved the loft and creature comforts. We appreciated them too and got some restful sleep. Within minutes we could walk to the Hawthorne area which is chock full of interesting restaurants, unique shops, a movie theater, and the must experience Waffle Window. About a 1/2 mile the other direction puts you at LaurelCrest Park, a park a mile around with a kids play area, off leash area for dogs, and a pond. Kim and Brian made us feel like family and could not have been more welcoming and kind. They thought of every detail, especially the welcome 6-pack of local beers. We have stayed in a lot of places all around the world, some great and some scary. You won't be disappointed in Beervana.

My sons (ages 4 and 2) and I had a terrific stay! I brought my kid-carrying bike down to easily explore the entire city, but was delighted to find many great places very close by, from the large Fred Meyer grocery store to Waffle Window (just as awesome as the name sounds) to Laurelhurst park. The kids particularly liked climbing the ladder to the loft bed and spending time with Dunkel, resident doggie. I can't wait to visit again and the only change I would make is to stay longer than three days!

I had an amazing trip to Portland in large part to the great home base I had to come back to every day after beer-adventuring. The hopartment is a stone's throw away from some great pubs & food, a quick bus trip into downtown and a day trip away to some great breweries in Astoria & Hood River. Brian's enthusiasm & knowledge is inspiring and extensive providing for great stories & suggestions. Everything about the Inn made me feel right at home - especially the brews waiting for me in the fridge upon arrival, the luxuriously comfortable bed, grilling on the spacious patio with the offer of fresh vegetables picked from the home garden and the ever friendly butt-bump from Dunkel, the family beer dog, whose happy wag and irresistible face is reason enough to ensure my return. Thanks for being such kind and gracious hosts!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, tourists without a car, pet owners.

Owner response: Not that everyone staying with us needs to come here just for exploring breweries, but we're very pleased that you took to checking out Greater Beervana with such proficiency! We can't wait to have you back and a simple reminder of your favorite styles will help me restock the fridge to suit your tastes in Oregon beers (meaning, a tallboy can of Vortex IPA is for sure on the list). And, it goes without saying, Dunkel can't wait to show you some tail-waggin' love again.

Inn Beervana is a great new lodging option in Portland for anyone, but especially for beer-geeks! Brian knows everything there is to know about beer (nationally and locally) and provided us with a lot of recommendations and a great 6-pack sampler upon arrival. The apartment is clean, spacious, conveniently located, and stocked with everything you could need, including local guidebooks and magazines. We loved meeting Brian, Half Pint, and their friendly dog. They went out of their way to make our stay wonderful and we would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone.

Wow! – this place was great! I was so lucky to have found this jewel nestled in the heart of one of the hottest spots in Portland (Hawthorne District). I did an extended stay at the Inn Beervana and had the best experience. The unit itself is a cottage detached / and set behind the main house. So, with it’s own private access, you get the feeling you’re in your own comfortable little home. The owners were incredibly nice, professional and accommodating. The unit was decorated in a very cool, hip and sophisticated style. It was really like staying in a private hotel suite stocked with everything I could possibly need for day-to-day living. Most important, the unit was squeaky clean and met all my needs. I would absolutely stay at this place again in a heartbeat! – Thanks Kimberly and Brian for making my stay at your Inn Beervana absolutely perfect! – good luck to you guys. I promise to return!
