My wife andI used the home as a focal point of our 30 year annivesary. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend this home. As advertized, the music collection was awesome. I found many interesting pieces to enjoy as well as shooting a game of pool in the basement to relax. The house is well equipped and very comfortable. The owners were delightful to work with and the house was all that they represented and more. The close proximity to the main highway made it easy for us to zip out for one day tours and the fall colors made the visit to Maine especially memorable.

The Freedom Song House had everything we needed to make our vacation perfect. Although we did not do much cooking at home, we could have made anything we wanted - all the necessary cookware, bakeware, etc. were available, as well as many spices, oils, etc. I was also impressed with the amount of bath towels provided - we had five in our party with 3-4 towels per person. When first searching for homes, I almost did not select this one because it did not have air conditioning. My friends and family refer to me as "hot flash" because I am always hot - at home we keep our A/C set very low, and everybody who visits is freezing. However, I was perfectly fine in the house - there are many windows to open, and ample fans provided, to make your stay very comfortable. Do not let the absence of A/C keep you from renting this property. We enjoyed watching the many birds that visited the feeders on the deck off the dining area, as well as watching the frogs who live in the fountain. The many windows provide so much natural light that you do not need to use the lamps or overhead lights during the day. Although Wiscasset is relatively small, many great towns are within a few minutes' drive. Do not miss Boothbay Harbor, Bath, Rockland, and Camden. Be sure to stop through Ogunquit on your way up the coast, and make a day trip to Bar Harbor - well worth it! The owner was a great pleasure to work with, and she has a local friend who is more than willing to help out if you need anything. Although I sincerely doubt you will need anything while staying at the Freedom Song House - anything you could possibly need/want to make your stay enjoyable is provided, including games, CDs, movies, magazines, tourist brochures, etc. etc. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!

From the moment you are awaken by a squirrel alarm clock, because after all she and the sun have been up for hours, to the end of the day when sounds of frogs and babbling water bid you goodnight, you know you have landed someplace special. Freedom Song House is as open and warm as its owners. The expansive dining room and living room are lined with a wall of windows, the large gourmet kitchen has everything from paprikca to cool cat dishes. We played pool and battleship, and since there is WiFi and Direct TV we wrote emails and didn't miss an episode of America's Got Talent ...the best of both worlds. We lost my husband to the music room of shelves and shelves and boxes of cd's and records, and great books. My daughter named all the frogs, was comforted by a cougar, was thrilled with all the ceramic, stone, and metal turtles and creatures all throughout the house. I happily climbed into comfy bed, with soft sheets and comfy pillows. There are a ton of towels, a washer and dryer , and shampoos and soap in each of the three bathrooms. Freedom Song House gave us a feeling of home that will have us returning year after year.

This is a beautiful house, full of light and with every amenity one could want or need. The owners are very hospitable and left excellent instructions on how to operate things, as well as tips about restaurants and activities. If you go in August, you can pick wonderful blueberries from the bushes by the patio. The location is very quiet serene--lovely pond with waterfall off the patio and a more natural pond between the lawn and woods. Many attractions within striking distance. We especially enjoyed the Maine Botanical Gardens in Booth Bay and the Maritime Museum in Bath.

We traveled from Colorado for a month long stay Maine. Never being north of Boston in the northeast, we picked this house after speaking to the owner (Becki), the pictures, and reading the reviews on this site. We made the right choice because our stay was fantastic. The house was clean with everything a large family or families would need. Very quiet in a beautiful wooded and landscaped setting. We felt very safe and secure, and communication with Becki and Joan (caretaker/friend) was great. They are there when needed or will give you privacy, if so desired. It is easy walking or biking into the lovely village of Wiscasset and a perfect location from which to travel and explore New Hampshire, Vermont, Acadia National Park or the southern coast of Maine. In a couple of years we plan to visit New England to view the fall colors, and will definitely want to come back to this vacation home, if Maine is our base. Thanks again, Becki, for making our summer vacation so enjoyable.

What a lovely retreat, set in a peaceful garden oasis in the woods. The furnishings and kitchen equipment were very thoughtful and anticipated all our needs. The home is very close to town and to the market, yet off the main road for dispersal of traffic noise. The wi-fi worked very well, so that our granddaughter was easily able to continue dong her schoolwork during our stay. The quiet was only broken by the sound of a trickling waterfall into the pond in the patio, and the nightly singing of the bullfrogs in the nearby marsh. We very much enjoyed our stay and know that if we visit Wiscasset again, it will be like coming home.

We, a group of seven friends, spent a week between Christmas and New Year's in the Freedom Song House. It was pure bliss. The space, the light and the friendly charm of the house were amazing. It is very quiet and private. In addition to all the amenities listed, the house also has a wood heater, which was perfect for cold winter nights. It was a real pleasure interacting with the owner Becki Clarke.

Seven of my lady-friends and I just returned from our annual "Girls Get Away and we loved being at this house. It is a beautiful home with lots of room for everyone. The house is clean, bright and modern. The photos really don't do it justice...if you LIKE the photos, you'll LOVE the house. The layout of the house allows you to be in the kitchen and still feel you are part of the social activities in the dining and living rooms. The kitchen is well equipped for those who want to cook while at the house. If you want some quiet time for reading, there are several spots to use as your quiet retreat. The grounds were lovely. Even at this time of year, there were blooms in the yard. The location of the house is wonderful. Once you drive into the driveway, you feel like you are out in the woods; but, just a very short drive and you are in the midst of wonderful downtown Wiscasset. Oh, and I have to mention that having three full baths was wonderful in a house of eight women! We are now checking our calendars hoping we can book this house for our 2012 weekend away.

We really enjoyed the rental house (very clean) and the location was perfect for our planned day trips. It was great that we only needed to pack our suitcases with our clothing since the linens, towels, etc were all provided. My husband loved the pool table and I loved reading in the sun room. The owners were great with email communication and their listing here on "homeaway" is very accurate. We love Maine and the nearby restaurants have wonderful food. Just wish that I had more than one week to spend on vacation. We would love to go back.

The owners of this house were a joy to work with, and handled our last minute booking very efficiently. The house itself is amazing - as others have said the pictures really don't do it justice. It was also extremely clean. It's a very short drive from Rte 1, but the location is incredibly peaceful and the only sounds you hear are the birds and frogs. Wiscasset itself is a very pretty village (the prettiest in Maine) with some lovely old buildings, however Rte 1 runs through the centre with very heavy and slow traffic. The house is well located for visiting some beautiful areas - Pemaquid, Boothbay, Bath, etc. and there is lots of information (maps, etc.) / suggestions in the house. Plus its just a short drive to Freeport / Portland for a shopping trip. We hope to return soon.

Our stay ay Freedomsong House in Wiscasset was a family get-together to remember fondly. The children were free to play hide-and-go seek outside and delighted in the frog pond. Dad preferred to spend time with the kids in the tv/pool room downstairs while Grandpa found a wonderful retreat in the music room. Everyone enjoyed exploring the area and we were close enough to plan a shopping trip to the Kittery Outllet Stores, LLBean and Trader Joe's. Even though we took full advantage of the beautiful, well-stocked kitchen most of the time, we also hit a few of the restaurants in Wiscasset and Boothbay.

It was more than spacious enough for our 10-person family, and very safe for the two little children that we brought along, too. The kitchen was stocked fully, and the location is great! We were close to the beach, harbor, eateries, groceries, wildlife, and just about everything one would seek in Maine. The basement scared the kids a little, but the pool table and the piano were a great addition to our entertainment. We all loved it, and the general atmosphere of the house is very homely, warm, and welcoming. It is our deepest regret that we couldn't see the fountain run, but the little garden in the back was also fabulous. All in all, our short stay was more than perfect. Thank you!!!

Owner response: We too were sad that the fountain was misbehaving during your week since the water plants and the frogs depend on it! And we can't imagine what was lurking in our basement to scare the young ones but we're very happy you enjoyed the rec room anyway!

we were delighted with this lovely home, it slept our family of 8 perfectly. The house is quiet and private, set well away from the road. Sitting in the garden or on any of the decks you can hear the fountain and the birds. Pool table so much fun for kids and piano was played often! Home convenient to beaches and there is plenty to do nearby for both children and parents. Best pie store in Maine is right at the end of the road on Route 1. We enjoyed everything about our stay at the house and look forward to coming back next year.

We spent a lovely August weekend here and had a wonderful time relaxing as a family (and dog). The house is spacious and spotless with plenty for all to do. We played pool downstairs as a family and my son played the piano every day. In the large yard we had a few good nerf-gun fights and barbecued daily. The kitchen was well equipped and the music room had albums and CD's that we could all enjoy. We also loved exploring the local area and visited several of the land preserves for long walks with the dog. I would highly recommend this house! My kids are already asking when we will return!

We traveled to Wiscasset with 6 adults and 4 children ages 8, 5, 3, and 6 weeks. The house was spectacular in the pictures and even better in person. Surrounded by woods, it was very private. The blueberry bushes provided fresh blueberries! Becki provided so much, we had to purchase very little food. My husband was in heaven with the huge collection of music. The kids loved playing the games provided and exploring the grounds. Wiscasset is only an hour from Portland and a short distance from Bath and Booth Bay Harbor. Whether the interest was white water rafting, whale watching, the Botanical Gardens, or shopping - everything was close. Thank you for a great vacation.

This house surely merits a 6 + star review - it was that good. This is the best vacation rental we've ever found. We rented this house for our 2010 family and friends vacation. It's perfect because there are 3 bedrooms with one person sleeping in the music room and my lucky brother who had the comfy futon in the entire downstairs pool room - which during this hot summer was the best place to be. We had the most outstanding time in Wiscasset, primarily because this house is so fantastic. This is a simply gorgeous rental. The owners have impeccable taste in art and as the vacationer, you're surrounded by the sheer beauty of the place. The yard has gardens and greenery all over the place. The house has great natural light and you feel 'away from it all' while you're there. Everyone has an extremely comfortable place to be and then come together in the living areas of the house which meet every need and then some. We could have, and did, spend much of the time just relaxing at the house. Between the music room (our friend Brian spent hours in there pouring over the titles and filling the house with all sorts of amazing music), the sun room (one of the things we appreciated most about this house was the quality of the furniture throughout - the wicker furniture in the sunroom was so comfortable that we could read there for a few hours!), the dining area (great, long, hilarious games of Trivial Pursuit around that large table), the pool room (we played doubles day after day, much to our delight. The pool table was what actually made us choose this rental above all the others and we're so glad we did.), the kitchen (great space to cook - we made some fabulous dinners) and the patio out back (long evenings spent talking and catching up under the stars) we had the best of all worlds with this house. We recommend this house highly to all sorts of vacationers. You can do as little or as much as you want in Wiscasset and come back from each day trip to this relaxing oasis. From those who want to sunbathe at the house on the private balcony to those who want to sample the amazing state park beaches only 25 minutes away, this rental and area has something for all. We all had a phenomenal time. We relaxed, relaxed and relaxed. That's what we went up there looking for and that's what we got - what a perfect house for us. We'll most definitely be back. Thanks for a exceptional space to spend our vacation - we loved it.

This is the second time we stayed at this beautiful home. Not only is this home lovely and a great place to stay, the owners and care takers bend over backwards to make your stay great. Almost anything you can think of they have taken care of or answered for you before you arrive, plus there is a book in the house that provides even more information. The home is located in a very private, quiet area, but so centrally located to so many sites in the south eastern part of the state about half way between the southern tip of Maine and Acadia National Park. The house has everything you need for cooking, relaxing, reading, listening to music and watching TV. It has a great kitchen and large table that seats 8 easily and can handle more in the eating area right next to the kitchen. This is a wonderful place to spend a vacation and have recommended this to my friends and would go back again. Thank you Becki and Tom.

My family of four loved this beautiful home! There was enough room that several more could have easily stayed, and it would have still felt roomy. The owners had done so many extras like preparing a house book explaining a lot of the perks, a book of maps to local recommended areas, and having a supply of bird food on hand. The pictures looked good, but even they didn't do it justice. The wooded setting could not have been any more gorgeous. The large windows offered beautiful views of trees and gardens all around the house. It was private and secluded, but still close to many hot spots. The kitchen was large and fully stocked, with plenty of room for cooking together. I seldom had to turn on the lights in the kitchen because of the skylights and large windows...again, with beautiful views! The beds and furniture were very comfortable, and everything was immaculate. Some of the activities we'd recommend are the Whale Watch at Boothbay Harbour, the walk-on adventrues at L.L. Bean (We were first-time kayakers) and shopping in nearby Freeport, a ferry-ride from Casco Bay to Peaks Island with bicycling and rock/shore exploring. We also think you should make the 2.5 hour drive north to Arcadia and exploring the island for a full day. Our favorite eating was at Montsweag Roadhouse, just down the road. The Maine coastline was truly awesome, and eating breakfast at the house each day, and then coming home to such a gorgeous setting at night made it an exceptional experience and one we'd recommend to all!

This is a great place for a relaxing vacation! The patio is an enjoyable spot for an afternoon glass of wine or for a morning cup of coffee and a chance to finish that book. The kitchen is light, airy, and well stocked. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby, but we did more cooking than we had planned. It was fun to watch the goldfinches and rose- breasted grosbeaks at the feeders outside the dining room window. The book of information that the owners had left, as well as a book of maps to interesting places in the area were very helpful, too.

My family stayed here while visiting Maine for my brother-in-laws retirement from the U.S. Navy. The house was wonderful and less than 5 minutes from my brother-in-laws house. With 3 different families staying in the house, there was plenty of room to find peace and quiet. In our large family and abundance of children, that is no easy task! The house had everything and Becki went above and beyond to make sure our stay was the best. The property was absolutely beautiful, and we really enjoyed the bird feeders and supply of feed. Other family members stayed in a different rental property and did not have near the amenities or personal touches Becki's home has. We all felt right at home! I would recommend this home to anyone! Thanks Becki!!

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner response: This was the biggest (rental) crowd we've had so far. Lots of kids made use of every inch of the house so we're very pleased the parents were able to enjoy themselves as well! They used all 4 of our single-sized movable mattresses, the toddler-sized airbed, and both full-sized futons in the rec room. The only thing not used was the fold-away crib. This is the closest thing we've had to our own extended family enjoying the home. We know how much fun it can be. Thanks for the shells, guys!

A number of friends and I stayed at this "home away from home" for a week between Christmas and the New Year to celebrate my 50th birthday. My hope for this week was that it would be one of relaxation, love, support, laughter and fun. All this was achieved and more, owed, in no small part, to this lovely home! We were all so comfortable there and felt immediately at ease. There is something about this home - whether it's the furnishings, the incredible wooded setting, or the family decorations Becki and Tom have lovingly placed throughout - that generates a warm and friendly feeling, despite the vastness of the house. It's almost as if the home, itself, had it's own personality - one which blended beautifully with our group! Becki and Tom made this vacation so easy for us and provided lovely touches to increase our feeling of comfort. Whether you want to just kick back (as we did) or take walks or go shopping (try the town of Bath - who knew it was a shopping mecca?), this home and location allows you to do all with ease. Thank you so much to the owners. We hope to come back again!

We had a great time at this beautiful home. It is in a lovely setting in the woods not far at all from downtown Wiscasset, and places to buy food, fresh Maine lobster, movie rental place and more. The owner who you deal with is great. You ask her a question and she gets back to you almost immediately and she provides you with many options and typically gives you more information then you need. This home is perfect for 3 couples but can handle more if you do not mind sharing bathrooms at that point. It does have three full bathrooms and the house has so much to offer just like it says in the write up. There is no question we'd would stay at this home again. It was clean, comfortable and had all the features you could want. Unlimited local and long distance, wireless internet access (you have to bring your own computer), great stereo system, kitchen, sun room, pool table and grounds. Basically the house was great and the people you deal with when renting this home were great.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: These renters were at the top of the list for their tender treatment of the house and for the couple of helpful (and kindly worded) suggestions for improvement which we always ask for but rarely get. And we have implemented them both! We would welcome them back in a heartbeat.

My friends and I had rented this beautiful house this summer. It was a dream come true... and exceeded our expectations in every sense. The house was huge (can easily accomodate 6 adults), clean and well-kept. Everything was just as the landlord described. The house itself has been artfully done up with lots of pieces that catch your attention. The kitchen was a delight - well-stocked with all the gadgets needed to make cooking a pleasure. The game room with the pool table and television had my son totally occupied - leaving us with time to ourselves! The adults enjoyed time out in the patio - enjoying the morning sun, listening to the soothing waterfall and barbecuing. We treasure our memories from this vacation and the house had a big part to play in this! The landlords were a pleasure to interact with. They have put together a great amount of information about places to see and things to do in and around. More importantly, they were prompt in replying to e-mails and considerate to the smallest of our needs and requests. All in all, I heartily recommend this house if you are looking for a relaxing vacation, close to nature. It has been one of our best vacation rental experiences yet and I am sure it will be one of yours too..

This home was by far the best vacation rental we have ever stayed at. It is really a beautiful and peaceful oasis where you can leave your cares behind for a little while. The home itself is open and spacious, with lots of windows, looking out into the wooded and very private yard. The smell of the flowers and the sound of the waterfall in one of the ponds allow you to instantly relax when you walk outside. Becki and Tom have truly made this house a home, with family pictures, artwork, and an unbelievable music and book collection. The music can be piped into the kitchen and/or living room, so that you can listen to it while you are cooking, etc. --and the kitchen is huge and has anything you would need to cook or bake, along with cookbooks and lots of spices. We really enjoyed preparing meals at home, instead of eating out all the time. The location is great too, because you can drive to many harbor/coastal towns and beaches within 15-45 minutes, (and we even drove up to Moosehead lake, and Acadia National Park, each about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive) The bathrooms and bedrooms are all beautifully decorated and spacious/airy. It was a wonderful retreat to wake up to and come back home to after a day of hiking, kayaking, etc. I actually felt sorry for the folks that we saw on our way home from places, as they pulled into the parking lots of their little motel rooms, while we were going back to a peaceful and spacious home. This would also be a great place to go if you didn't want to hardly go anywhere, because it is just so nice and relaxing hanging out at the house, enjoying the scenery, and listening to music and/or reading/spending time with friends and family. We will definitely return if we are ever in Maine again!

We stayed here with our 3 teenage children and loved the house and the area. As an architect ,holiday rentals can sometimes be a question of" never mind the quality - feel the width" but not here. It is a lovely and spacious modern house and the owners have obviously put a great deal of love, attention to detail and thought into how it is arranged and furnished. I particularly enjoyed Toms massive collection of music- we clearly have very similar tastes - lots of jazz and blues. The house can easily swallow up a familly of five and everyone can have their own favourite space. Our kids loved the basement den.Once they were down there we didnt see them again until dinner time! here there also a huge collection of books - we really enjoyed one about american perceptions of Europe - hugely entertaining... Coming from crowded England it was particularly enjoyable to have so much space around the house and its woodland garden, veiwed from the bedroomswas a joy. Great bird life, chipmunks etc If I had one small suggestion it would be if you are light sleepers to bring eye shades- there are no curtains in the bedrooms - which isgreat if you're happy to wake up at dawn - but remember its 4.00am in June ! the area is lovely - the coastline here is beautiful . Highlights of our holiday were Damariscotta grille, whale watching from Boothbay Harbor and Camden - the whole coastline infact -lots of rocky coves. You can't come here without at least one trip to Red's Eats in Wiscasset - lobster rolls to die for! Can't recommend this house highly enough - you'll love it !

Owner response: We are tickled to hear from these folks who booked the rental through a British agency (so we never actually met them). Tom is always humbled to hear how much someone else loves his esoteric music collection. And indeed, we have no curtains on any windows -- being surrounded by Maine woodland with no houses close by, there seems no reason to block the natural views. This review echoes what many others have told us: their teens disappear into the basement rec room, giving the adults great 'alone' time!

What a find! This was the first time I planned a family vacation (my husbands 50th birthday) and it was absolutely amazing. We walked into the home and found a wonderful bottle of wine along with a birthday balloon that was so thoughtful ... thank you! My family had never been to this area of Maine and now they will be back again and want to stay here. The home, gardens and frog pond/waterfall were truly beautiful and so relaxing. We called the rear patio our "Zen Garden". We would see a large variety of birds, hummingbirds, frogs and chipmunks in different areas of this very private property. This house is very spacious with an open floorplan with lots of glass to bring in the beauty of the outdoors and beautifully decorated. There was plenty of room for family gatherings along with lots of space to escape to a quiet area to read a book or just gaze out the windows and count the endless variety of birds eating at the feeders. We really liked having the pool room in the basement, the satellite tv, the music room with an incredible variety of cd's and records and a separate laundry room. The master bedroom is huge with a private bathroom, loft, changing room and balcony. The other 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor were also very nice and quite comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped with all utensils and a wide assortment of herbs and condiments. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Thank you so much for sharing your home with our family.

The house is beautiful and very spacious. Perfect if you want privacy. Best of both worlds. Out of the way, but also close to many beaches, and close to Boothbay Harbor if you like to do some antique, craft or actually any kind of shopping. I also recommend taking one of the Capt'n Fish Cruises while in Boothbay. The owner of the house has left many maps and information booklets of places of interest in the area. Kitchen is well equipt and house is well furnished. You won't be dissapointed.

Absolutely loved the house. Although the weather didnt cooperate there was plenty to do. Within an hour of Camden, Rockport and Rockland we were able to do some great day trips. Able to go to Boothbay Harbor in thirty minutes. The owners were great to deal with and left all kinds of information and maps. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location was close to food stores, laundromat and video rentals as well as seafood. The property was lovely with a patio and frog pond.

We absolutely loved this house and very much hope to return - it's beautiful and so peaceful. We visited in July from a very hot New York and the cool night air coming thru the windows was bliss after the city! We've rented a lot of houses over the years - mostly in the West of Ireland, which Maine really reminded us of - and it's always a pleasure to be invited into someone's actual home - where there are books, comfortable furniture, proper pots and pans and sharp knives in the kitchen! The house is situated in a forest clearing and is surrounded by beautiful gardens - the wildlife was amazing - frogs, chipmunks and many colorful birds. I would happily recommend this property to anyone.
