Rocky Point, Waterfront Home: Fishing, Kayaking & Birding
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This home appeals to outdoor enthusiasts or persons seeking the solitude of a quiet retreat in a casual cozy setting. Fish off the fishing platform for large in-season snook or launch a kayak/canoe in the canal for a short paddle to the St. Lucie Inlet Preserve Park. Once there, you have a choice to walk across the boardwalk or continue to paddle the labyrinth of mangrove waterways among dense populations of birds to a pristine ocean beach. There you can cast a line in the ocean, swim, sunbathe, search for protected turtle nests or view the beautiful morning sunrises. For those who are seeking solitude, the home is located on a quiet dead-end street near the end of Horseshoe Point (on Rocky Point) surrounded by native shrubs and palms that give a sense of privacy. The screen-in porch or patio avails itself of prevailing southeasterly breezes where reading a good book can be a joy. If you like to cook, there's a fully equipped kitchen with a new stainless refrigerator that can hold mounds of food and drinks.
The older, comfortable home (1320sq.') , constructed on a quiet canal, was one of the first to be built on the Point by a retired yacht Captain and his wife in 1968. Much of their memorabilia remains in the house, a legacy of their adventures while traveling the Intracoastal Waterway for years. The house has one great room that includes the living/dining/kitchen with bedrooms off the main room. The laundry room/2nd bath is off the kitchen. The twin bedroom has an adjoining full bath. The Queen bedroom has the view of the canal.
Shopping options on US1 and waterfront restaurants on the Manatee Pocket are both within a 10 minute drive. Downtown Stuart, where many eateries, a farmers market and live theater are 20 minutes by car. Beautiful beaches and many public golf courses are within 20 minutes. PBI (Palm Beach International airport) is a 45 minute drive, Ft. Lauderdale 1 1/2 hours, Miami 2 hours, Kennedy Space Center 1 1/2 hours, and Orlando 2 hours.

This is a perfect vacation home with sentimental charm, and is complete with everything you could need. The property is well maintained, and the house is immaculate and very comfortable. It is located in a wonderful neighborhood, and we definitely felt like we were at home. Each day we enjoyed its peace and quiet, as well as the beautiful view of wildlife on the canal. Catching a fish on the dock, watching the variety of birds, and seeing manatees was very relaxing. The home's location is the perfect base to explore the Treasure Coast, since it is convenient to nearby beaches, shopping, and great restuarants. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. She keeps in close contact when necessary, and is willing to assist with everything. She has prepared a binder that informs you about the house, restuarants, and attractions in the area. What did we like the best? The awesome views! What did we like the least? Leaving! We have just completed our second visit to this wonderful home, and are looking forward to our future one next year. The house completely met our needs, and we thoroughly enjoyed statying there. We definitely would recommend this property for anyone looking for a laid back, relaxing Florida experience.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My wife and I live only two hours from this property and after staying at Rocky Point we didn't want to go home. This is an amazing rental in a safe and quiet neighborhood with a central location to anything you would want. The fishing and beaches located in close proximity to this home are awesome. It was so relaxing with all the comforts of home and more. The house is very nice and exceptionally clean and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owner is a wonderful person and is very helpful in any way. Can't wait to go back next summer.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Spent last Spring Break with the family and last summer for one week at a time. Fishing is incredible off the back dock. House location is just a short kayak or canoe trip accross the inter coastal. Kayaks and canoes available on property!!!!! House made us feel like we were back in the 1950's (in a good way). Clean and comfortable. Boat rental was just 15 min. away and we were able to park it behind the house for lunch. At the end of the neighborhood lies Port Salerno with great places to eat on the water. We took our rental boat to our own private beach right down the canal from the house. Great scuba in the area, awesome fishing on the property. We will be back in 2012. Thanks Diane Ron B.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1968
About the owner: As a retired educator, I now travel in pursuit of finding good waters to fish. I'm a member of many local and international fly fishing clubs. I've traveled extensively to South America and New Zealand in pursuit of fish as well as widely across the United States. I live in the wine country of Central California and love to cook.
Why the Owner Chose Stuart:
The home was originally built as a retirement home by my parents after my step-father's career as a yacht captain came to a close. They were one of the first to develop their property on the man-made canal that made it convenient to dock their boat without barriers to the inlet. The property continues share quarters with a 38' sailboat on the main dock.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
A short walk down the street will provide an unobstructed view of the Indian River as well as the site of the entry to the backwaters of the St. Lucie Inlet Preserve. We receive a daily SE breeze that cools during the summer months. . Convenient shopping and entertainment are nearby. Restaurants with good reviews abound on the Manatee Pocket.
