River Views Apartment with Balcony at Chiado
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Bright, daylight filled, 5th floor apartment is located on Rua Nova do Almada, in CHIADO, has a privilege situation in the heart of the cultural and historical part of the city.
Very close to several museums, operas, theaters and churches. A few minutes walk takes you to the Rossio, in the Baixa, and to the Elevador da Lavra. The other direction, you will reach the Praça do Comércio, which is located in the center of the Portuguese old empire near the river Tejo (Tagus). To go to Sintra you must catch the train at Rossio train station, which is just a short subway trip from Chiado.
Chiado is considered the most beautiful area of historical Lisbon. It was a place of residence of the Portuguese royalty and of the political and cultural elites. Nearby is the theater S. Luis and the opera D. Carlos.
Close to shops, restaurants, cafes, banks, cash machine, public transportation (subway and electric trams) and 24 hour taxi stands, etc.
A little further up on the left is Camões Square (Praça de Camões), next to Bairro Alto, picturesque but raffish; part of Lisbon's nightlife seems to be concentrated in this quarter, which was frequented to hear the sentimental 'fados' sung in certain restaurants and cafés. Chiado and Bairro Alto are "the" meeting point for locals and tourists, with elegant hotels, old cafés, and the best international fashion shops nearby.
Lisbon Sightseeing - It operates both open-top bus tours and tourist trams. Both run from the Praça do Comércio. Bus trips are the 'Circuito Tejo', which goes out to Belém as well as other parts of the city, or the (Expresso Oriente' which visits the Parque das Nações. The tram does the 'Circuito das Colinas' (Hill Circuit) which embraces the 28 route through Alfama.
It also visits Estrela to the west of the city. Whilst costly, the advantage of the tourist tram is the audio guided tour and the fact that you will get a seat and not have to stand. Also, the historic trams are decked out in 'historic' upholstery and fittings. Trams also operate a Circuito dos Descobrimentos to Belém.
Accommodation comprises one bedroom with a king size bed (180 x 200 cm) and 2 futon beds (perfect for children), living room with dining and sitting areas with a sofa bed (170 x 200 cm), one full bathroom and a second small bathroom (no shower) and fully equipped kitchen. The apartment has air-conditioning and heating in all the rooms. This privileged location offers easy access by foot to the subway (Chiado/Baixa station – 50 m).
We will welcome you with a nice bottle of wine, coffee and tea ready for you and some biscuits.

We stayed at the apartment for three nights in May and couldn't fault the property at all, location wise it's right where you need to be with the Metro less than a minute's walk away and only a few minutes walk to restaurants and shops and to the waterfront. The property was clean and had everything you'd need for either a short or extended stay in Lisbon. We loved the space offered in the apartment with there only being two of us, however the apartment would easily work for four people no problem. The balcony that wraps around is a great people watching spot and the french style windows that go around all open to allow you access to the balcony and to let in a cooling breeze. We were met at the apartment by Sylvia who went through everything we needed to know about the apartment and she also gave us some great advice about trips out of Lisbon to Sintra and Cascais (both trips we went on, thank you Sylvia!) We would have no hesitation in booking this apartment when we next visit Lisbon and will definately pass on the information to any friends or family that may also visit Lisbon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed three nights in the apartment and were delighted throughout. Silvia met us and got us oriented (she'd even located health-related products we needed) and settled in. Everything was clean, tastefully decorated, and we were even welcomed with a bottle of wine and a lovely little breakfast/coffee/tea tray. The location was great, walking distance to many local attractions, squares, restaurants, metro, trams, etc. Thank goodness for the lift! We would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing for a special visit to Lisbon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

It's hard to do this review without constantly using hackneyed superlatives and too many exclamation points. It's essentially the perfect place to stay for a couple or a family. The location is great (Chiado is in the middle of things); the apartment is on the fifth floor of a great building, on the corner, with eight floor-to-ceiling windows giving onto a wrap-around balcony; it has amazing views east toward the castle and south toward the river. The LR/DR and bedrooms are gigantic; even the kitchen is quite large compared to most that can be found in Europe, and it's well-equipped. In addition to a full bath, there is another half bath, which is great when more than two people are staying. The bed is very comfortable and there is more-than-ample closet space. On-demand hot water and individually controlled heat/AC in the LR/DR and bedroom. Last but not least, an in-apartment washer and dryer both of which really work! We cannot recommend this apartment highly enough.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is an extremely large one bedroom apartment. It is perfectly centrally located, just two minutes from the subway entrance, and in a neighborhood that has loads of restaurants, shops, etc. The grocery store is a five minute block away, and there's a taxi stand at the entrance to the mall, which is down the block, but almost across the street. It's also only a few minutes walk to the Rossio train station, which is very convenient if you plan on taking any day trips out of Lisbon (to Sintra, etc.). When I had a question about turning on the heat, the response was lightning fast to my email. I would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Lisbon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We are still talking about the unbelievable light and terraces of the apartment! In additional to being in a perfect location, the apartment was spacious, well equipped and had all the amenities you could want in a holiday home. We found the best pizza ever right around corner at Mezo Giorno. From our initial request to long after our departure, Paulo and Sylvia were incredibly responsive. They made arrangements for luggage storage to accommodate our early and late flight schedules, provided a ‘hotel like’ guidebook complete with a map for local services and restaurants, and completed light bulb maintenance when notified. After our departure, I contacted Paulo to see if by chance my missing eyeglasses were found in the apartment. After an initial no response, I received another email from Paulo saying they had been found on the drying machine!! Paulo immediately sent them off to me and they arrived in perfect condition. Truly 5-star service all-around! We enjoyed our entire time in Lisbon and look forward to a return trip and another stay with Paulo and Sylvia.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

we were delighted to find our apartments location was so central to everything Lisbon had to offer . We were met by Silvia who showed us all we needed to know about the apartment & even organised our early morning taxi when we had to leave, (thankyou Silvia). She was also very helpful with restaurant & shopping tips. The apartment was so much bigger than we had expected, with views to the river & over the city. It was clean & well maintained with everything you needed for a comfortable stay, we would definately return. It made our stay in Lisbon that little bit more special, & we loved the fact we could really spread out & relax.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

A beautiful apartment with wrap-around balconies. We walked to the Castle and looked at the fabled view-it was our view, exactly-we were overlooking our apartment, which was directly in line. The largest one bedroom I've been in, very clean. A 2-3 block walk to Rossio Square, with a grocery store and train to Sintra. Innumerable restaurants of all types and levels, all kinds of shopping. One thing that may bother some people-while the neighborhood is generally quiet, late at night voices in the alley below seem amplified and very clear, even though they are 5 floors down. I'm talking about normal conversation, not shouting, but it is right below the bedroom. So bring earplugs and you'll have no problem.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I stayed at the apartment for a week in July with two siblings and we had a great experience. Lisbon is a wonderful city to visit and the apartment has a great location in the center of town. It turned out to be a perfect base for exploring Lisbon with surroundings. The apartment itself is clean and spacious with a very nice (albeit narrow) wrap-around balcony and lovely views. The VRBO description and pictures represent it well. The only complaint I have in regards to cleanliness/maintenance is the state of the two chair sleepers + rug in the bedroom -- they had seen their best days. As noted above, the location is great -- trams and buses are just a few steps away and it is also an easy walk to get to a couple of the train stations. We ended up walking to most parts of town which is very doable if you don't mind hills and stairs. We did take the train to the beach towns of Cascais and Estoril -- both very nice spots. I would avoid the restaurants by the square (Rossio) that is close to the apartment. They seemed over priced and the one we ate at was not very good. I would, however, recommend a restaurant/bar called Pharmacia (Rua Marechal Saldanha 1) -- good food in a very charming setting. The booking process and arrival arrangements went smoothly with the help of Paulo and Silvia.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

My daughter and I stayed at the apartment for 5 days and had a great time. The location is perfect, very handy to all the sights. The apartment is very large with lots of windows. Paul was very helpful. We would definitely stay here again. My only complaint is that the master bed is hard, as are many European beds.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

A wonderful jewel in the busy city of Lisbon. The location was ideal for shopping, great food and it was only a few steps away from the metro. The views were breathtaking and the air-conditioning gave us the relief from the Lisbon heat. I would recommend this place to all my friends and cannot wait to return soon. Paulo made the booking easy and Sylvia helped us with anything we needed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car.
