A beautiful house in the Berkshires, in a great location! The house is beautifully decorated and neat as a pin! We stayed here while visiting family in the area but enjoyed all that the Berkshires has to offer, too! Looking forward to a return visit!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We were delighted with our stay in this cozy, beautifully renovated farmhouse. It was the perfect venue for a holiday weekend of skiing in the Berkshires for our young family. Although the footprint is compact, the layout makes it feel spacious thanks to well-designed multiple levels and good light (natural and fixtures). The ground floor has an appealing open kitchen/bar and dining area with good flow and attractive finishes in wood, glass, and stone. It's the kind of endearing communal space that lends itself well to a casual dinner party, or in our case, a family gathering. The rear entryway area, with a bench and stone tile floor, is perfect for shedding winter clothing and boots without tracking the outdoors into the rest of the house (a plus with kids). Upstairs, you get the feeling that every inch of the house is put to good use. Storage is discreetly built into walls and corners. The living room is comfortable but not crowded, thanks to a loft ceiling and plenty of windows. The bedrooms are small but the layout works well--particularly third floor loft--It was the perfect size for our kids. The weather was particularly cold during our stay. We fell asleep listening to the wind blowing fiercely across the roof outside, but we felt snug and warm inside our cottage. As for logistics, we found the location to be very suitable: just two minutes from Route 7, and 8-10 minutes to Great Barrington. We were at Butternut for skiing in 15 minutes. Catamount may be even closer. Sheffield isn't bustling but then again, that's the point if you're in the Berkshires. Also, Max was very accommodating in terms of check-in/out times and very responsive by phone/email. He's a native of the area and had some great recommendations for us. We'll certainly be back to the Bell & Anchor in Great Barrington for dinner, and hopefully back for another stay at the house as well!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We loved, loved, loved our stay. The house is so chic yet comfortable. I felt like I was at a home away from home. Very peaceful location, great yard for kids to run around. Close proximity to hikes and 10 minute drive to Great Barrington. Could not have found a more perfect spot for our family. Will hopefully be up again very soon.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We spent a month at this cottage last December and had a great time. The house is even nicer than the pictures. It has a comfortable living, a sleeping loft for two more people, and a great tiny reading nook where I spent much of my days. It also has a great kitchen if you like to cook and it's very well equipped with most stuff you'd need. DVD with video on demand and a nice speaker system provide entertainment. Plus the outdoors wood-fired hot tub proved to be great after a hike. Just make sure you throw a lot of wood in the fire if you want it to warm up fast, otherwise you'll be waiting all day. Although it is right next to the road, there is not much noise from traffic, so you benefit from the quiet without losing any accessibility. Sheffield itself doesn't have much to do or see, but you're close to Great Barrington for dining and entertainment. As for restaurants, we enjoyed Fiori and the Castle Street Cafe in GB plus Bistro Zinc a bit further away in Lenox. Shopping is also excellent in the area, with a world-class cheese monger in downtown GB, a good small wine store in South Egremont, and lots of good stuff at Guido's, the gourmet supermarket only 5 miles from the house. There are also many wonderful hikes within a 20-minute drive. Our favorite was the Ice Glen, just south of Stockbridge. Skiing at Butternut was good and a short drive away. Overall, a great place. Owners were quick on email and very accommodating.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
