This classic Maine shipbuilder’s cottage, newly renovated, is in the historic village of East Boothbay, a maritime and shipbuilding center since the 18th century. Built in 1928 for a shipbuilding family, the cottage is in an area surrounded by water on four sides, from the Mill Pond behind the house to the Marsh, a jewel of a tiny lake across the road, to spectacular Linekin Bay (with a municipal boat launch and dock) a short five-minute walk down quiet Murray Hill Road, and finally to the Damariscotta River, a five-minute walk in the other direction. Beautifully decorated and maintained, the cottage has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and sleeps five. There are two adjoining light-filled living areas and a dining room next to the well-appointed kitchen. Bathed in light from tall windows, the kitchen has stainless steel work tables and marble countertops. The downstairs bedroom has twin beds, and the charming large upstairs bedroom has three twin beds, dormer windows, and sloping eaves. There are a washer and dryer and Wi-Fi. It has a shaded yard surrounded by a stone wall, with a garden, moss-covered rock ledges, and, out back, a secluded deck with a view of the Mill Pond. The cottage is perfect for two couples or a couple with children. The cottage is available for enjoying the fall foliage as well as the gorgeous Maine summer.
Steps away is the East Boothbay General store, which has great coffee, fresh pastries, a creative menu for breakfast through dinner (including a fabulous breakfast pizza), staple and specialty grocery items, an excellent wine selection and the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, or the Boothbay Register, depending on your mood. Also within walking distance are the Lobsterman’s Wharf Restaurant (where you can eat in or phone ahead for steamed lobsters to go) and the Five Gables Inn, which serves magnificent breakfasts. A few minutes’ walk will take you down the road to the town boat launch and the town dock on beautiful Linekin Bay. Swim, kayak (kayaks can be rented by the week in Boothbay Harbor and launched at the municipal boat launch on Murray Hill Road), sail, or just enjoy the views, of which there are many. A short drive away are a beautiful walk around Ocean Point (which fronts on the Atlantic), dinner at the Ocean Point Inn, and a hike on the Land Trust Linekin Preserve.
Boothbay Harbor (10 minutes by car), a working harbor filled with lobster boats and pleasure craft, is 3 miles away, with shops, restaurants, sailing, kayak rentals, and harbor cruises, dinner cruises, and whale watching excursions, a movie theater, candlepin bowling, the Opera House, a public library, the Boothbay Regional YMCA, public tennis courts, and a good bookstore. The Maine State Aquarium is in Boothbay Harbor, and the breathtaking Coastal Maine Botanical Garden is a short drive away.
Further away are shopping in Freeport (60 minutes by car); Bath and the Maine Maritime Museum (35 minutes); Brunswick and the Bowdoin College Art Museum (45 minutes); Pemaquid Point with its famous lighthouse (55 minutes); the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland (65 minutes); and beautiful Monhegan Island, accessible for a day trip from Boothbay Harbor.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: We have been coming to Maine as a family for nearly 20 years from our home near Washington, D.C. We work hard, and look forward to getting away to the beauty and serenity of the Maine coast. We love the Boothbay area and the all the enjoyable things there are to do, and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose East Boothbay:
East Boothbay and the surrounding areas are among the most beautiful spots on the coast of Maine. We love the small village atmosphere, all the outdoor and cultural activities, and the convenience of amenities in Boothbay Harbor.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Our house is situated in the village, yet is steps away from Linekin Bay. It is a very comfortable year-round house so we can enjoy the beautiful fall season as well as a beautiful New England snowfall - we spent last Christmas here.
