Come and relax in a lakefront paradise. Lake views from all bedrooms and sunroom. Enjoy dinner overlooking the lake and walking along the beach afterwards. You can sit and watch the sunset either on the porch on the patio with a fire to keep you warm. Watch the stars come out and count the falling ones. If you're the first to see the Pelee ferry, you get a quarter! Be sure and look out for the eagles soaring along the lakefront. Listen to the birds as they sing their songs to the waking day. There are plenty of trees to sit under and picnic or just rest. Take a nature walk through our paths and check out the wildlife. If you are lucky you might see a deer, definitely go tracking and find their hoof prints as they walked by.
For the hunters in your life, there is plenty of hunting areas less than a mile from our Lodge. If you are lucky enough to bag one, we are happy to get a photo for our wall. My husband loves to hunt, but I think he enjoys the time out watching the deer instead of shooting them! He rarely brings one back, but always happy to have spent time sitting out in the cold watching.
For those who love to eat and not want to cook, be sure to check out the many restaurants available on the island. There is something for everyones palate! Dessert is always a favorite and the ice cream here is wonderful. Too make up for the dessert a bike ride is always on the list. Ride down to Glacial Grooves or over to the State Park. There are many historical sites the island has to offer.
Our lodge has four bedrooms. The master has a king size bed and separate bathroom. There is also a queen size bed, another king size bed and then two twin beds. We also have a sunroom that has a day bed if you happen to need a nap overlooking the lake. A full kitchen is provided for those who want to cook.
One thing I need to mention, please bring water socks for swimming in the lake. The lake bottom is limestone and has pepples and occasional shells that cause slipping in the water.
We do not allow weddings, reunions, or bachelor/bachelorette groups. Our home is for enjoyment and recreation without disturbing surrounding homes.

We had a most enjoyable, relaxing time. Rose was excellent and the property was "top shelf" with all the comforts of home. Just bring your food, and change of clothes. Everything else is provided, including all the firewood for beach fires or fireplace.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: I have to say you were such fun to have. I enjoyed looking out at night to see the fire going and hearing the laughter. You were a great group of young men and hope to have you again. Good luck with the upcoming births!

Our family stayed at the Herndon Lodge in early June to set the stage for the wedding of our daughter. The house is full of comfortable places to relax. It felt like our own home. The owners, Rose and David, were overly accomodating and made us feel like family. Our grandchildren had a blast on the beach and played games on the lawn while we sat on the deck. The kitchen facilities are remarkable and met all of our needs. I really can't imagine staying any other place. Our stresses were minimized by the comfort of this home and the people who own it. I expect another stay soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Claudia, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Your daughter looked beautiful on her wedding day! We hope to see you again, Rose and David

Two retired couples from Wheeling,WV came for a weekend in late November....the men to try their hand at some walleye fishing and the women to enjoy the lodge. This is a very comfortable place to relax! The view of Lake Erie was amazing. We kept the fire going and watched football all weekend and prepared some delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen. We took walks on the quiet roads around the house and went down to the shore often since we had pretty fair weather. It was wonderful! Rose (the owner) is very nice and the folks who manage the house are the most accommodating folks I've met in a long time. We had no land-line(due to a short in the line) and our cell service was spotty so Cindy and Chuck made their home and one of their fishing cottages up the road available to us for phone calls when necessary. The island is unique....different than anyplace I've been. It has a nice laid-back feel to it but there are a few places to go get "pick-up" groceries or to grab a meal. A small air-strip is close to the house so we'd see an occasional plane as it was heading across the lake toward the main land. All tolled,we were very pleased with our stay at Herndon's Lodge and hope to return sometime. Many thanks to the Herndon family!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks Becky we appreciate your feedback on our Lodge. We are so glad you had a wonderful time. We look forward to your returning with your family!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: Our Lodge was built in 1970's by Dr. Charles and Mrs. Kathryn Herndon, David's parents. He & his brother grew up every summer next door at Kay's parents home. Building here was just another step in having a place for the family to share time together and with the family when on the island. David is a Burn Surgeon for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas and his wife, Rose is a volunteer there. They travel as often as possible to visit the family and island. They have three children: Heather Herndon Suhey, Charles Christopher Herndon and Benjamin David Herndon. We have two new additions to our family; Stephanie Bruno Herndon and Steven Suhey recently married to Chris and Heather. The photos on the living room wall are generations of the Herndon's and Blair families. Along the kitchen walls are our family photos. We enjoy hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, nature walks through our orchard and watching the deer as they walk by and eat from our feeders. The most enjoyment is sitting on the patio and reading a good book with a glass of wine.
Why the Owner Chose Kelleys Island:
My husband grew up here and next door was a family home. We enjoy coming up and sharing fun times with other family members and friends. Our place is secluded in the woods and therefore no traffic so children can play freely. The fishing and hunting is wonderful as David will attest to!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Waking up taking our coffee out to the lake and watch the sunrise. Having breakfast on the porch and watching the eagles soar and birds sing. We enjoy taking long walks and cutting the grass! Working in my garden when we are there is very therapeutic and relaxing. The swim in the lake after working is wonderful!
