A "Golden Pond" experience!
A "Golden Pond" experience!
My extended family of 18 stayed at this wonderful Lake Front Cottage last summer in August. It was an experience that I will never forget. I thought that I was "on Golden Pond!" ...The sounds of loons at night, A.Beautiful Stone Fireplace in the middle of the living room, spacious outside deck for our meals and overall beauty, privacy and serentity. This is a true "Maine Cottage Experience"...Comfortable and spotlessly clean. There is a private beach, a dock and canoes to use. It is a wonderful spot for kids, and my children spent endless hours in the lake and then playing games at night in front of the fireplace. We can't wait to go back!

Overall, this is a very nice property. Some huge pluses are the great location, nice beachfront, privacy, great firepit, lots of chairs outside, nice complement of boats, and the way the property is equipped. On arrival we found it clean and ready to go. She clearly works hard so that it is ready to have your group start their vacation with a minimum of effort. It is, however, a medium rustic vacation site and you should be aware of that: uneven painted floor in the kitchen, beds that are getting a little long in the tooth, a dock that is a bit rickety, and broken out seats on the canoe. She also asks you to take the trash to the transfer station (a bit surprising) -------be nice if there were some trash cans on the property so this was 1 trip vs. several. If it is rainy, inside table seating is pretty tight. And the major place for kid seating is up in a loft area over the kitchen (must keep it quiet as no doors to close). Also, would be nice to have wireless service.

Owner response: I wouldn't describe the main cottage as rustic (the guest cottage is though)...yes, it does have a wooden floor in the kitchen but there are also granite counters, a 6 burner range, double ovens, a microwave and a new full size frig. I've had one compliant over the years about one of the beds and I bought a new box spring and mattress to replace it. The bunk beds are more suited for children than adults, but that's who generally uses them. There is an extra table and chairs in the pantry room which can be brought out into the kitchen to seat more people. Things do get broken with large groups and I often don't know that until I get there to clean and there is often not time to repair or replace the broken objects. As far as the garbage issue...it is written in the rental contract that people are responsible for taking their garbage. Again, it is a quantity issue...the amount of garbage large groups sometimes create is much more than I can deal with. There are garbage cans in the garage but people often find bags fit into their cars better. As far as having wireless, I like to think of my place as an escape from the "real world" for a few days. :)
