Being from south Texas, we had always dreamed of having a white Christmas and I researched many hours to find the perfect destination for our family. I could not have dreamed of a more perfect location than Cloudcroft! The Aspen Lodge is nestled in a perfect location on the east side of town, just a short distance from the ice skating rink and the quaint Burro St. shopping area. We had researched different activities to fill our time while in Cloudcroft, but it was unnecessary because the kids never wanted to leave our cabin! We were lucky to receive 6" of fresh snow on Christmas Eve and the area surrounding the cabin is perfect for sledding, snowball fighting, hiking and nature watching. While we enjoyed some of the local restaurants (Big Daddy's Diner is a must-eat!), we did cook some meals and found the kitchen to be well stocked for our stay. The air hockey table downstairs was a HUGE hit with the kids (and their grandmother!) and the owners have provided books, puzzles and other games as well. The beds were all very comfortable with ample pillows and linens. Each time I contacted the owner with questions, he was always very quick to reply. Because nothing is ever perfect, I would like to mention a few details that would have made our stay even more enjoyable. While the home was very comfortable, there was not much storage for a family of 7 staying for 5 nights...we were pretty much living out of our suitcases (which were just laying on the floor of the bedrooms). Also, we had problems getting the downstairs room heated comfortably...it was always much colder than the upstairs, especially if we had a fire burning. As much as we enjoyed the wood burning stove, we had to stop using it because while it was burning, the heater would not turn on and the downstairs would become downright frigid (temps at night were in the teens). Overall, this house was a tremendous bargain and we would happily stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I visited the cabin for the purposes of cutting firewood up in Sunspot, a few miles up the road. There were 7 of us and it fit us perfectly! The air hockey table was a HUGE hit with my 4 year old son and it kept him entertained for hours! The cabin was in perfect walking distance to several restaurants and was overall just a perfect getaway for us! Will definitely stay here again when we come back to stock up on more firewood!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

The Aspen Lodge provided us with a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The house was very comfortable but could have been better stocked with basic necessities. The lodge was an easy walk into town, and within a few miles of beautiful walking trails. Lots of room for families. Good washer and dryer. We were surprised at all there was to do in Cloudcroft, so we hope to return!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

This house worked well for 2 families with kids. We had 2 bedrooms & a bathroom upstairs for the adults & the kids shared the downstairs gameroom/bunkroom which has a bath. The kids loved playing air hockey, & the adults loved the hot tub. The weather in Cloudcroft was nice & cool. The house was well stocked. The only thing we wished for was window screens. We don't generally have mosquitoes in New Mexico, but we were having lots of moths at the time of our visit. Even without screens, we were able to open the windows & enjoy the nice weather. The owners were very responsive & helpful before our visit and might have been able to provide screens if we had asked, but we weren't bothered enough by the moths to call. I would definitely consider renting this house again. Regarding Cloudcroft, it's a nice location for a quiet summer getaway. Were able to do some nice hiking right in the area, & White Sands is only about a 40 min drive. We brought lots of food from home, but the Mercantile & Allsups seemed to have most of the things you would need. We walked down the hill one evening & enjoyed dinner at Big Daddy's Diner. There are a number of other restaurants in town if you aren't interested in cooking.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I recently decided to take a 'mini' vacation and spend a couple nights somewhere we could just relax and enjoy each other and our children without the normal daily stress of work, school, etc. We decided to stay in Cloudcroft and, after seeing Aspen Lodge, thought it would be the perfect get-away. It did not disappoint us! From start to finish, the experience was incredible. The owners were so friendly and helpful at the time of the reservation and the photos very accurately reflected the beautiful, serene nature of the mountain cabin. It was snowing when we got there and the caretakers had heated the hot tub to a wonderful 102 degrees! It was incredible to relax in a heated jacuzzi and watch snow falling all around us. The house was exceptionally clean and they had everything we needed for cooking, etc. All of the beds had heated blankets, which completely added to the ambiance of a cabin in the woods. The woodstove was a beautiful change from the central heat we have at home. Although they had central heat at the cabin, the woodstove was all we needed. It was very calming to sit in front of it reading quietly or playing a game or two. The owners have not left out anything in this home. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the game table downstairs and played air hockey non-stop. They occasionally took a break to join us in one of the board games or puzzles they have for guest enjoyment. The two bathrooms were immaculate and we had plenty of towels for showers and the jacuzzi. They also have a washer and dryer so we were able to wash anything we needed to. We did eat out one night and found there was a great selection for such a small village. There is also an outdoor skating rink that is open fairly late, where they play music and serve hot chocolate. It was so perfect. Burro Street in the village is filled with quaint shops with all kinds of things to buy and the people are so friendly. They even have a place that sells potpourri that smells just like the mountains and the piney woods. We loved all of it! My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! We have already recommended this cabin to many of our friends who enjoy these get-aways as much as we do. Can't wait to stay again. Thank you for everything!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

This was a nice cozy getaway for our family and we greatly enjoyed the experience. No complaints AT ALL! Hot tub was relaxing, game table was great for the kids, and the multiple king size beds were very comfortable, not to mention the reasonable rates. We have recommended many of our friends and family. Thanks again for the great service and use of your beautiful home!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

It snowed the whole time. The cabin is great with rustic furniture and fireplace. The kids loved the multi game - game table - Ping pong and air hockey. The hot tub was wonderful after playing in the snow all day. The sledding is great right next to the cabin. Lots of things to do in Cloudcroft. We are going to go back to this cabin in the summer. Cant wait to go back and get out of the summer heat.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
