I can’t recommend Mint Cottage highly enough! We had never stayed in a private home before while traveling, but will definitely do this again and plan to return to Mint Cottage for sure! Meryl and Jeff have a clean, comfortable, and cozy house in the middle of Asheville that is convenient to everything worth doing and seeing in the city… minutes to Biltmore, the arts district, fine (and not so fine) dining, shopping, and parks. While not elegant, it was much nicer than the website indicates, was artistically decorated, and was more spacious than expected. The house was immaculate and all linens, kitchen utensils, and basic necessities were included. We spent 4 days there with our granddaughter and her parents during Spring Break. Staying at Mint Cottage enabled us to "hang out" with each other as well as to do the many tourist activities here. Fred, the cook in the family, loved the kitchen and found all the necessities to fix a big breakfast for the group each morning. Sharon, the artist, loved the décor and plans to recreate the coffee cup wall sculpture in her own home. Caroline, the teenager, liked cocooning in the Moroccan room and was really into the artsy ambiance of the place. The ladies played cards and games in the dining area while the guys watched sports on the big screen TV after we came in each evening. I am the sentimental one and loved having the family all together where it was easy to visit. The house was so much more convenient than a hotel – we had our snacks, we could visit comfortably (as opposed sitting on a bed in a hotel room), there were multiple bathrooms, and although we didn’t use it, there were laundry facilities available. Animal lovers will appreciate the fenced back yard and the “doggie-door.” The house is spacious and the five of us were very comfortable. None of us felt like we were crowded or on top of each other. My husband, who had priced the cost of three rooms at the Biltmore Inn, Grove Park Inn, and several hotel chains, loved the price! This is the perfect option for a family get-together or for traveling with a pet or with a group of friends. Our Spring Break trip to Asheville was WONDERFUL, thanks to our stay at Mint Cottage. 5 Stars out of 5!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you. The cottage is set up nicely for a family visit. And so much nicer than a hotel room!

We just returned from a month in Meryl's cottage. We had a wonderful time (in spite of bad weather). Everyone has commented on the funky decor, the warmth of the setting, the fact that it is a perfect place for dogs. We agree with all that, but for us, the biggest plus was location. We walked to downtown almost every day and as well, we walked to GreenLife, Montford Avenue, and many other places. Communicating with Meryl was straightforward and easy. We had a great time and hope to return.Owner response: Bobbi, You are so right. Being able to walk to so many places while still being in a family neighborhood is the best of both worlds. I am glad that you liked the house and your stay. Please come back!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mint Cottage! It was a very convenient location for us, both to downtown and to all the beautiful hikes off Blue Ridge Parkway that we could access this time of year. We loved the decor, the art and the photos from the owners' travels. Our older son enjoyed the map and the typewriter. We highly recommend a dinner at Luella's BBQ that's nearby. We hope to stay at Mint Cottage in the fall next time and enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway colors!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you! The location of Mint Cottage is so convenient to downtown and the Blue Ridge Parkway! You will love the fall there!

Our group enjoyed the wonderful setting of Asheville coupled with the cozy Mint Cottage that we came to call home over our 4 day stay. This is not my first on a VRBO prompted property and it was so good like most of my stays have been! The location was awesome as we spent most of our time in the downtown area. Our access to the property was awesome so that different members could come and go without worrying about access to the property. The peaceful neighborhood that surrounded us and the added bonus of feeding the birds made our stay so special!! I love seeing the yellow shafted flicker come right up on the porch for his morning meal. Next time we hope to use the bikes that are available, and it should be noted I said next time. We would stay here again and again!! Thanks for opening this sweet haven for us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, pet owners, girls getaway.
Owner response: We appreciate the great feedback and we are glad you enjoyed the birds. It is a big hobby of my husband.

If you want a a quiet, cozy spot away from the bustle of downtown and Biltmore, then Mint Cottage is for you. The neighborhood is great for long walks and is full of architectural gems. The deck is perfect for a lazy afternoon of reading and watching the birds at the feeder. The cottage is exactly as it's portrayed in the pictures and is very easy to get to from the main roads. If you're a book lover, I highly recommend the Battery Park bookstore in the Grove Arcade and Montford Books on Montford Street. And don't forget to stop at the ice cream store that's only a block away from the cottage, your mouth will thank you!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you! I think you described it perfectly-near downtown but in a neighborhood where you can walk to Ultimate Ice Cream!

I rented the cottage for a girls weekend and it was the perfect property for us. I love the decor and the layout of the rooms. The pictures do not do this property justice! Everything we needed was provided to make it a great weekend in the mountains. The location is central to all and the off-street parking is another great feature. We plan on visiting again soon. Thank you Meryl for sharing your home with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We stayed at the Mint Cottage while visiting my daughter in Asheville. The cottage was close to downtown shopping and restaurants as well as UNC Asheville. This historic bungalow has everything you need during your stay — a nice kitchen, comfortable beds, spacious living areas, and a nice yard with a deck. We will definitely make a return trip to the Mint Cottage.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, girls getaway.

My wife and I, and our 19 year old daughter, had a wonderful stay at the mint cottage. It was our first time in Asheville. We hiked in the Blue Ridge every day and enjoyed downtown Asheville in the evening. We also brought along our 4 year old Golden Retriever. She really enjoyed the fence yard, especially the front. She enjoyed watching folks, and other dogs, walk by every day. The location was great. It was easy walking to many different locations. The cottage was just as described. We really enjoyed the decorations. Thanks you for sharing your cottage with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, girls getaway.

This was our first trip to Asheville. My husband and I spent a week at the Mint Cottage and truly enjoyed ourselves. The home was very comfortable and true to what the pics show. The artwork and interesting decor added to the enjoyment. The location was wonderful for us. It was very close to downtown, Biltmore, Grove Park and the highway to explore the area. There were so many things to do in such a short time. Being that close to downtown was helpful for us to be able to come home quickly if needed to let our little dogs out then continue with our plans. The dogs settled in right away but didn't quite catch on to the doggie door! We would definitely return to the Mint Cottage.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

About the owner: Jeff and Meryl live in Charleston, SC. We have been married for 33 years and have two children, 2 dogs and a cat. We love to travel and met while backpacking in Europe when we were in college. Having a place in Asheville gives us the best of both worlds-Beach and Mountains. Meryl is originally from NJ and is an artist and Jeff is a proud Kentuckian, loves to garden and being retired.
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
We purchased our Asheville house when our daughter was a student at UNCA. After she graduated we decided to renovate it and use it as a mountain getaway. We love the character of a 1912 home but with all modern conveniences. We love the cool mountain weather and the abundance of activities in and around Asheville. It is great to stroll around downtown and see what is happening-there always seems to be a festival, a street fair, or other excitement going on. If you love the arts, there are plenty of galleries and the new River Arts District. There is every kind of outdoor activity-on a recent trip we went tubing and berry-picking. If you love craft beer, Asheville was just voted #1 Beer City in the US!
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
You will love Mint Cottage, appropriately named for the abundance of mint growing in the front yard. It is a lovely location in a residential neighborhood, but walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops and Ultimate Ice Cream-the best in Asheville!! The house is comfortable, snug and very clean. It is colorfully and artistically decorated with many of the artist owner's personal touches. We are dog-friendly, with fenced front and back yards and a doggy door. We have a notebook of menus from our favorite restaurants as well as suggestions of where to shop, what to see and what to do! There is a deck for outdoor relaxing. There is off street parking for two cars.
