  The Mermaid Villa is everything one could ask for a BVI vacation. Spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, stunning views, swimming pool, privacy, comfortable bed (great pillows!), cool breezes, close to Long Bay beach and a short drive to Trellis Bay restaurants, gift shops and a small market. The owner, Jan, is a wonderful host, and a remarkable woman who has spent 40+ years on the island and knows everything! The only drawback is that one has to leave, eventually! This was our 9th trip to the BVI, and the Mermaid Villa is the best place we've stayed and such a reasonable price. Don't forget to sample the chicken roti at the Roti Hut in Trellis Bay, and the outstanding dinners at De Loose Mongoose as well. Can't wait for our next visit!

  Scary to rent a villa without ever seeing it first! Our worry transformed itself into pure delight. We expected to find no less than what we had seen on the listing descriptions and photos and we were in no way disappointed. Jan is a great host and was discreet, responsive, helpful and generous. When you arrive, you meet Jan the lady landlord and when you leave you feel like you are parting with a friend.. The villa is very beautiful, well kept and very private which was one of our top wish. Access to the beach and walking paths are easy and most enjoyable. The pool is just the perfect cherry on the sunday. I could go on an on and on but I guess what sums it all up is that we are already making plans to return next year for a minimum of two weeks. A dream that will keep us excited for the next twelve months. Till me meet again Jan, take care of yourself! HUGS F and M

  We spent two weeks and enjoyed every day. The house is beautiful, the pool a welcome refresher. Long Bay beach is probably the best beach on the island and a quick walk away. All was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well appointed and all the appliances were high quality. The ice maker is the best we've ever had in the islands! The trade winds and the sound of the surf made it ideal for sleeping. The location is great for catching a ferry out of Trellis Bay. We did day trips with Dive BVI, and were picked up also at Trellis Bay so we didn't have to drive all over. Jan the owner was available if we needed anything. We would absolutely recommend the property to families wanting their own space to be together. Don't miss the Chicken Roti at the CyberCafe in Trellis Bay and if you are lucky enough, catch the Full Moon Party there as well.

  This is a very special home located in an area that has become our family's favorite part of Tortola. Mermaid Villa is beautiful with comfortable furnishings and outstanding views overlooking Virgin Gorda, Ginger, Cooper, Salt and Peter Islands. There are three decks from which to admire the view which only gets bluer and more intense as the afternoon goes on. Long Bay beach is just a short walk from the house, and it is the quintessential crescent shaped white sand beach with plenty of parking ( should you want to drive down with all of your gear) and hardly another person on it. The house itself couldn't be more conducive to a family vacation; it has everything one could need, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, wireless, weekly maid service and a pool. Now lets talk about that pool! Our kids were in it from sun up to sun down (mom and dad, too!). Conveniently located right off of the kitchen/dining area, it is quite easy to keep an eye on the kids while preparing meals. Jan went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and welcome, from unpacking our groceries that arrived before we did, to making a call to find out when the cruise ships were departing from the Baths-so we could enjoy a quiet day there. She has also equipped the villa with every provision you could need down to the basics such as detergent, paper towels, TP, cooking oil, salt pepper, etc. so that you don't spend your vacation at the grocery store. This is a wonderful family villa that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. What a week we had on Beef Island! My only complaint.......we couldn't stay longer! Thank you for everything , Jan....and we hope to be back soon!! P.S. Don't forget to eat at De Loose Mongoose...the shrimp Roti and the friendly atmosphere are not to be missed!

  SPENDING A WEEK WITH OUR FRIENDS FROM ALBERTA, CANADA , WE COULDN'T HAVE PICKED A BETTER LOCATION AND PROPERTY. THE PHOTOS ACCURATELY REFLECT THE VILLAS APPEARANCE AND AMENITIES. JAN (OWNER) COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL. WE WERE ABLE TO TRAVEL AROUND THE BVI AND STILL COME BACK TO OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME. AN ALMOST PRIVATE BEAUTIFUL BEACH WITH IN WALKING DISTANCE TOOK UP MUCH OF OUR TIME. SNORKELING WAS AWESOME THERE AS WELL AS THE NATURAL BEAUTY ALL AROUND US. WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK.   Having just returned home from our stay in Mermaid Villa, we have been reflecting about the whole experience. First of all, your communications with us during the timeframe we were contemplating booking, was very professional and diligent. Another thing we realised after seeing the villa, its location, and the beach was that you definitely never “oversold” anything. The villa was clean, well furnished, and ideally located. The beach was, as you said, a short walk. Not even worth starting the rental car. It was also virtually empty each time we went there. There was nothing more you could ask for in a beach. You had mentioned that we could snorkel at the beach. What we didn’t realise was the snorkeling was fantastic. There were literally 1000’s of fish, great coral, and all easily accessible from the beach. We were there with another couple, but want to book again so we can bring our family. We will return as soon as we can. Thank you Jan!!

  We were fortunate enough to find the Villa available after another place fell through. The most important part of that sentence was 'find the Villa'! From the first email we received from Jan, the owner, to our final, sad farewell, our experience was pure heaven. The house is comfortable and clean, and there was nothing lacking to make us feel 'at home' at every moment. The pool was just right for early morning dips and evening comfort. And Jan, as well as her son and daughter, was always ready to help or advise--and we now have them as new friends, who we hope to visit as often as possible! The location is perfect if you are looking for a true island getaway. It is quiet and away-from-it-all, with the added bonus of a beautiful view, and a nearby beach that is not only great to look at from the house, but is a wonderful place to enjoy--one of the best we've encountered in the Caribbean! A car is helpful if you care to re-enter the busy world of tourists, although it was fun to explore Tortola--especially knowing we could return to 'peace' at the Villa at the end of the day. Since we were there during hurricane season, some of the restaurants were closed (we're used to that!), but we found everything we needed in the markets, and we actually preferred the charm of Trellis Bay and its quiet, islandy atmosphere. The food and the folks there gave us all we really needed to fill the belly, and the soul. If a lovely, relaxing vacation is what you're looking for, you will love the Mermaid! Just please leave some dates open for us! Jan--we miss you already!

  My fiance and I stayed at Mermaid Villa for 7 nights after Independence Day. The rental is in relatively remote area on the East end, with a GORGEOUS view of Beef Island bay out the bedroom and living room windows. The beach was literally a few minutes down the road, and we walked several times with no trouble. :) Having a kitchen and grill was convenient, and the pool didn't hurt either. We only came into contact with one other person the entire time at the villa who lived opposite pool, and she was really very lovely, and quiet. We were able to wash laundry on site free of charge, which was a huge relief, because often times on vacation, we have to use coin laundries. Since my fiance is an HVAC mechanic who loves to keep the house cold, he was disappointed that there was no A.C. in the guest house. That is our singular complaint, but with the sea breeze coming up the hill and fans throughout the house, we were still very comfortable during our stay. Jan is an excellent landlord, and there isn't anything you can ask for she won't have or know where you can get it. A+

  My family and I recently stayed at Mermaid Villa and had a wonderful time. The villa is neat and clean. The area is quiet and the view is fantastic. The villa is very spacious with a big Master bedroom, and another room for children or other guest. It has a full equipped kitchen, internet connection, two private balconies, a great outdoor area with a BBQ and even a semi private pool to enjoy too. At first my husband was a little worried that the unit doen't have air condition but it turn out that wasn't really need it at all. It was breezy all the time due to the location. There is not nearby market that you could go walking but a short distance if you have your own vehicle. Its very important to rent a car if you want to move around the island and get the real flavor. Jane, the owner, was very nice and helpful. She give us some tips on the best places to go and things to do.

  My husband and I just returned from Mermaid villa for 9 days. I need to make an appointment to see a therapist to help me adjust returning to the real world. It was totally relaxing and Jan (the owner) was so informative. We have been to Tortola before but have never stayed on Beef Island, it was so peaceful and serene. Of course it helped that there was a beach to walk down to and never to find more than 5 people there. It is at a great location if you want to take day trips to other islands because of the close proximity to Trellis Bay. We would absolutely recommend Mermaid Villa to anyone and hope to return ourselves some day.
