Albuquerque house description

Casa de Paiz is a classic, cozy split-level 1100 square foot adobe home, sitting on a secluded acre of Pinon-Juniper woods at the north end of the Sandia Mountains, within easy driving distance from Santa Fe and Albuquerque. It's a perfect couple's getaway featuring a large and luxuriously appointed master bedroom with a California-king size bed and a decorative kiva fireplace, a large bathroom with separate tub and shower, new completely equipped kitchen, nice views from large windows, a covered patio in front next to the lily pond, and a very private patio outside the master bedroom. The bedroom and den both have flat screen LCD TV's, with access to Netflix and Hulu streaming movies and TV shows plus over-the-air network tv. All your computing and communications needs are met with a desk-top computer, printer, wi-fi and landline telephone. A double size futon (sofa bed) in the den can be used by a 3rd and 4th guest.

In warm weather enjoy the cool breeze in the shade of the portale waiting for hummingbirds to visit the flowers and dragonflies to visit the lily pond, or the beautiful view of the Jemez Mountains 40 miles away while sunbathing on the bedroom patio. Star-gazing is excellent on clear, moon-less nights, as the lights of Albuquerque are hidden on the other side of the mountain. Year-round birding opportunities abound in the area with many feathered friends visiting our feeders and the lily pond.

Recreation and outdoor adventure opportunities abound in the area, with the 10,600 foot Sandia Mountains at hand with winter snow sports and summer mountain biking and many miles of hiking trails including nearby trails in the foothills that are accessible year-round. The annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, featuring hundreds of colorful hot air balloons from around the world, is held in early October and is just 20 minutes away.

Nearby Indian Pueblos offer excellent golf courses, casino gambling and entertainment venues. Throughout the year Pueblos have traditional dances that are open to the public.

Experience the colorful Southwestern culture, unique shopping opportunities and fine dining in Santa Fe and Albuquerque Old Town, both an easy drive from Placitas. But there are great restaurants close by as well in Placitas and the town of Bernalillo.

Your hosts Joel and Mary Lou live nearby in Albuquerque (25 minutes away) and are readily available to help make your stay very enjoyable and comfortable.

Please note that Casa de Paiz is ADULTS only, and NO PETS are allowed.

CONCERNED ABOUT WINTER ACCESS? Not likely to be a problem as this area just gets a little more snow than Albuquerque - 1-3 inches several times a year, rarely more. When it does snow the road crews clear Highway 165 quickly.

We spent a great week here in early April. The property is in a pleasant setting with a sense of seclusion, yet only a short distance from the main road. The location is very convenient to take day trips to ABQ, Santa Fe, Tent Rocks, Jemez Mountains (hot springs) and more. The property is well maintained and appointed, even down to a backpack and coolers for day trip picnics. The owners description is spot on. We would recommend this property to our friends and would stay there again.

Joel and Mary Lou were there to greet us and show us around when arrived late that evening. That was such a nice touch. Everything about this location was exactly as promised. The house was immaculate and the location couldn't be beat. At the end of Highway 165, we didn't hear traffic, noise, or anything except the birds. Close enough to Albuquerque but far enough from town to be a peaceful retreat. We enjoyed watching the birds and checking out the area. At the end of the highway (about 1/2 mile from the house) is a dirt road that was full of adventure (the Sandia Cave hike), beauty (a gorgeous creek in the woods), and fun. I highly recommend off roading a bit. Prompt with communication, help, and with the return of our security deposit, Joel and Mary Lou are definitely the ones to rent from!

My wife and I spent 8 nights at Casa de Paiz over Christmas and really enjoyed it. The house is very well equipped with everything you need to make it a home. Also, the king-sized bed in the bedroom is very comfortable. We highly recommend staying here.

If you are looking for a nice secluded place in the mountains. This is the place. This home is so cozy and comfortable that you don't want to leave. It had everything you could possibly need. Mary Lou and Joel thought of everything. It was nice just sitting outside and taking in all the views. We went out for the Balloon Fiesta. We had a great time. We would definitely recommend this place. thank you so much Mary Lou and Joel

We spent a very restful week at Casa de Paiz. My husband looks for Indian arrowheads everywhere we go and he found one the first day we were here. We got to see the wild horses everyone talks about. The bird watching was wonderful too, we sat out on the patio in the lounge chairs it was so cool in the mornings and evenings. Some days we didn't even leave the house we just watched Net Flix movies all day long. The house was so well furnished and so clean. It was a really great week. Thank You Mary Lou & Joel for making it a great vacation.

Casa de Paiz is a beautiful home in the mountains just north of Albuquerque. It is only 10 minutes from the highway, but feels as though you are way out in the country. It is in the mountains, and the air is pristine, it is quiet, nature is all around. There are birds and bunnies at the house, and the wild horses are very nearby- we saw them almost every day. So special. The whole area seems to be protective of wildlife. There are excellent stores and restaurants nearby. Joel and Mary Lou are obviously so thoughtful- they really have thought of everything you could need- little extras like maps and brochures, a backpack, cooler, coffee, spices. The furnishings are comfortable and top quality. We loved staying there so much that we altered vacation plans for September so we could come back!

If proximity to the city, yet enjoying New Mexico's nature and beautiful mountains is what you want...stay here!! My wife and I used this cozy and clean Adobe as our "base camp" and ventured out for hours every day. We bought a few groceries, and made ourselves "at home". Having the ipod player was the perfect touch. I would highly recommend many of the "National Monuments" that seem to litter the southwest :) Bandelier National Monument, Valles Caldera National Preserve, Tent Rocks, El Malpais, and definitely El Morro...all Parks and Monuments. They are incredible to hike and explore, and all within 2 hours of the Adobe!

The place was beautiful. It was clean and well stocked with all of the kitchen utensils and spices we needed. The bed was firm but quite comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch and watching all of the birds. It was very peaceful out there. We are used to condos and hotels, so having the privacy of just the two of us on a gated property was really cool. The weather was beautiful. The air was crisp and clean. I'd love to stay up there again. The grocery store just down the hill from the house is well stocked. We managed to find 2 ingredients we needed for our menu that our big box,big city groceries did not have. The also have a very nice selection of meals premade in their deli as well as a great wine slection. We hauled all of our food across country which in retrospect was probably not necessary. Also the Blades Bistro restaurant in the same shopping center was pretty spectacular. We consider our selfs foodies and this place was a real surprise. We visited the hot air ballon museum which was cool and I imagine if you were traveling with children would be a big hit. The tram to the top of Sandia peak is a must do. The view is awesome, and for us playing in the snow alone was worth the price of admission. My fiance had a great time shopping in Old Town Albuqueque as well as downtown Santa Fe. Being a reasonable drive from both cities was a big plus. I'll also recommend Gruet winery, IV The Bath (shop in Old Town), and The Shed (restaurant in downtown Santa Fe).
