My husband and I stayed in the cottage for two beautiful Delta nights. It's a peaceful location outside of town, with a waterway across the street and nature all around. The owners were thoughtful and the place was spotless. I highly recommend it. The Delta has so many interesting towns and places to explore!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for the wonderful review! We were glad that we could be part of your special getaway weekend and hope the photos you took of the picturesque Delta towns and landmarks make for lasting memories. Please come again!

the cottage was small, but comfortable for our family of 4. the owners were kind enough to have an aerobed all ready for our 2 kids upon our arrival. the photos are true representations of the cottage - it is a cozy, light-filled space, furnished with nice antiques...and the location is ideal for anyone looking for a true delta experience. right on steamboat slough, just a ways down the road from grand island mansion - it is perfectly isolated, peaceful, but close enough to towns and restaurants. we rented the kayak for a day and had a blast! the orchards are lovely to walk through, and with the owner's encouragement, we picked a few apples and pears, which were delicious! chris, his wife, and their kids are very nice and accommodating. for places to eat - giusti's is a delta must, the levee cafe in isleton is simple and honest, and the sunday brunches at both the grand island mansion and the ryde hotel are surreal. the delta is full of adventure, rich california history, and new surprises waiting to be discovered - and time moves super slow - enjoy!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: While it has been a year since your stay with us, we just wanted to let you know that we now have a comfortable full-size futon for your kids and a big, adventurous play structure. The kayak is ready any time you want to come back!

About the owner: We are a water resources consultant and architectural designer, along with our 3 kids. We were drawn to the California Delta as students at University of California, Davis, moving here in 2001 after restoring an 1882 Victorian in Midtown Sacramento. The Delta is a unique 'working' landscape providing food and water for millions of people while also representing a picturesque treasure-trove of recreation, adventure, fish and wildlife habitat, and other opportunities.
Why the Owner Chose Walnut Grove:
While seeking escape from urban life in Sacramento, this little cherry orchard found a special place in our hearts with 360-degree views and an ideal mix of water (with Steamboat Slough across the levee to the west) and land (with vast acres of orchards all around). The guest cottage and main farmhouse date to the 1920s, on the site of an older farmhouse lost in a fire. It is a charming and relaxing rural setting.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Our friends and guests love to visit because even an afternoon can feel like a vacation due to the peace and tranquility.
