This is our second stay at "Happy Landing". We have come here for quiet family time together and loved every minute of it. Despite another review that I read, I like that there is no TV.....the last thing I want my family to do when we are spending time vacationing together is to zone out watching TV. We did watch a movie, which was provided by the owner. I had to stay connected to my work and had Internet access via my smart phone which I used as a hotspot for my laptop without any problem. I was sorry that I had to stay connected, but that's the way my business is. It is good for people to know that there is cell phone coverage if they need it......but I hope you won't have to use it for business while you are vacationing here! The house is lovely and I am pleasantly surprised at the upscale decor. The owner clearly has excellent taste! This really isn't a "cabin" but a home with everything we needed....air-conditioning, large bedrooms and baths, dishes, linens, magazines, etc. We were very comfortable. The deck is amazing and that is where we spent the most time. The river was down but we were able to use the paddle boat without any problem. The chairs on the deck got a lot of use too. Rain on the metal roof is the best! This trip we visited Jekyll Island and their sea turtle sanctuary which was wonderful. We also spent a day on Saint Simons Island and really enjoyed the shopping and swimming there (there is a new public pool facility near the pier). We are looking forward to our next stay!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

My family of 4 visited in mid July, 2012 and we had a great time. We were only about 1 1/2 hours away from home so we did not spend all of our time traveling but it still felt like we got away. The Cottage was great! Very charming and cozy. We loved the way it was decorated. I think we had more quality family time on this vacation than ever before. The selection of board games and cards you have available for everyone is great. Each evening we sat at the table and played games or cards. I had never played a 4 hour game of Monopoly before this trip! We brought our own movies but realized we didn't need to after seeing your collection. We were a little worried we would not be able to enjoy the movies on such a small TV, but once we sat down to watch one we really did not notice. There is no TV service (cable) but for us it created more family time and we didn't really miss it. The back porch is the best. July is so hot but the porch in the evenings, with the ceiling fans and the rockers was so comfortable. My husbands and boys brought their guitars and this was a great place to sit and play. The neighbors were very friendly and we appreciate everything. They lent us a photo book of the Satilla river by a local photographer. I enjoyed it very much. This property is not very private as your neighbors are close by but it really didn't matter to us. No one bothered us and we had a great time. We didn't go anywhere while we were there except for the grocery and the bait store, but they had everything we needed. My husband and boys fished and caught several fish but only about 6 keepers. We had a fish fry that evening. Great kitchen in the house with everything you need. There is a nice fire pit and seating area behind the house that we didn't use because of the time of year but it would be great in cooler weather. Of all the vacation homes we have been to this house was the best stocked. Absolutely everything you need other than your clothes. Thanks for sharing your place with us. We did enjoy it very much.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

Our family loved their stay in this cozy cottage right on the river. The large screened in back porch with dining area and rocking chairs with a wonderful view of the river was very enjoyable! The comfortable living room with the gas fireplace was enjoyed by all! There was an outdoor fire pit with a brand new grill for cooking our steaks! There is no place like home and we all felt that warm feeling that we were right at home! The furnishing in this home were very nice. Everything you needed or wanted was there! Thank you Carolyn for making this beautiful home available to us! My 82 year old mother said, "What a pleasure it was for all of us to stay there!"Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

We traveled here from Michigan. there was 20 inches of snow in michigan when we left, so the warm dry weather was wonderful. This was a golf vaca for our husbands and they were pleased with the courses in the area. Us girls enjoyed shopping, farm markets and flea makets in Brunswick..a short drive. We also went to Jekyll Island, which was very nice. therental had everything we needed. A great place to go to get away from it all. Although we did miss having TV, we did watch a couple of movies. The boys fished right out of the back yard. The ownwers were wonderful to work with. Answered questions and got back to us immediately. Would definetley recommend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

Your home is lovely. We enjoyed the collection of primtives, DVD's, board games, and your spa tub. I highly recommend getting TV Service and wireless internet, it would have been very helpful. The river was low, so we were not able to enjoy the paddle or john boat. The gas grill was not operable. The screened in porch and outdoor firepit was an added bonus. The location was excellent for Okefenokee and The Beach . You may want to update the listing to Waynesville. Thank you for sharing your home with our Family.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for visiting our Satilla Cottage. We apologize that the grill was not operable. We have replaced it with a new one. Thank you for letting us know. We wish the river had been higher for you. We have gotten more rain recently so the water level has risen. We hope you will come back for another stay in the near future to make more happy memories.

We had a great time visiting the cottage. It was just as nice as the pictures! The river was to low for fishing (we expected that) but we did play in the paddle boat. The owners were great and very helpful!! My boys loved the gas fireplace and area behind the cottage . There are numerous cypress trees and they could be very adventerious. They also made great photo props! I was pleasantly surprised with the Satilla Grocery. They were not over priced and had a large selection of items. We will definately be returning.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+.

What a wonderful time we just had at your cottage on the Satilla River! Put away the laptop..put away the cell phone and enjoy! We spent the weekend making smores by the firepit and playing in the backyard w/our 4 yr old daughter. Lots of room to play! The house is well appointed and feels like a gracious cottage, yet the screened-in porch gives the feel of a cabin in the woods. So cool! A truly great find! -Dave, Andrea and VioletRecommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

We had a great time staying at "Happy"! We had 3 generations staying all in one house for a weekend. Most of us are from central Georgia but one family came from as far away as Arkansas. We went to the Okefenokee Swamp Park one day and enjoyed the tour. However, we would have been just as happy staying at the house the entire time, going out on the river, grilling out, having a fire with toasted marshmallows, and just enjoying each others company. Thank you so much for opening up your beautiful home to complete strangers. Hopefully we will be able to find the time to come back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

Have you ever felt like you were in the mountains in South Georgia? Well, you will when you visit this adorable cottage. Our family just spent the Labor Day holiday at 'Happy Landing' to escape the 'tourists' on St. Simons Island. We so enjoyed the peacefulness of the area. The quiet was broken only by the giggles and laughter of family members in the paddle boat and at night by squeals of a night owl. We. enjoyed breakfasts on the screened porch and reading in the hammock. The cabin's decor is country chic and if you aren't careful one may spend too much time indoors. We even rushed the season a bit and had a fire in the fire pit so as to have some s'mores. All in all we didn't do anything we didn't want to do and appreciated the chance to get away and enjoy nature up close.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

Owner was very gracious and provided us with everything we needed for a wonderful family vacation away from our busy everyday lives. We relaxed in the beautiful country setting overlooking the Satilla. We loved paddle boating and fishing and enjoyed the firepit at night. Owner has lots of board games the whole family can enjoy. We will definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+.

About the owner: Upon retirement my husband and I were searching for a weekend get away house when we discovered this jewel on the Satilla river. It reminded him of the many hours he would spend fishing with his grandfather as a child on this very river. We fell in love with it immediately. It has been a wonderful place for our family and friends to gather for holidays and special events.
Why the Owner Chose Waycross:
We chose this location because it gives us the best of both worlds. We live near the beach and can get to our river house in only a matter of minutes. It is surrounded by nature and very serene.
