We arrived to find the condo very spacious and clean. It was beyond our expectations. The location was very convenient to shopping, restaurant's plus the one on site was very good. The pool and beach area was perfect. It was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

The Best Vacation Spot

We loved everything about the condo, especially the fabulous view from the 6th floor. The lanai is large enough to easily have six at time to enjoy the views and have dinner outside. Best of all are the waves crashing day and night, a soothing and relaxing sound. We also enjoyed the breezes, the beach and the health food store just a mile away. It is close enough to Lahaina, but without all the crouds of some of the other resorts. The condo is comfortable, spacious and kitchen has everything you need in it. We will definately want to come back again and thank you for your fast communications and sharing your wonderful place with us. We had a wonderful time. Many thanks !

We Would Rent Again

We stayed in the unit after the Thanksgiving holiday for a week and would stay in it again as well as recommend it. We found the unit, as well as the Sands of Kahuna (SOK) property, well maintained. The unit was well stocked with all the sundries needed for a comfortable stay. The fans were in working order and there is excellent airflow from the ocean through the unit out to the internal courtyard where the main door opens up to (certain doors have louvers which will allow air when closed) there is a window by the door which can be left open to achieve that flow. The closeness to the ocean provides a warm white background noise which to us snow lovers sounds like a wind storm picking up in intensity as the waves roll onto the beach and was very comforting. We kept with the open air flowing for the whole week and didn’t have to touch the air conditioning unit. Having stopped off at Costco close to the airport before arriving we were well stocked and used the SOK properties bbq grill, but also cooked a majority of our meals in the unit via the stove and microwave from the refrigerator of Costco goodies. The other reviewer commented on the sliding multi-door which separates the master bedroom from the living area with the TV. That to me should be disclosed, not because it’s a drawback, but because it is truly a feature. When loading or unloading the whole room is available as it being opened and when it is time to sleep, it can be slid closed and while the kids watch the TV; the background noise of the ocean and its being closed completely mask the TV being watched! I loved it. We did find a couple of nuance things which I think are normal for any vacation rental and I have raised them with the owner as a heads up and frankly don’t belong in this review due to the trivialities of them. As an aside I was able to plug my travel router (DLink 505) into the wired Cisco router there in the unit via Ethernet and all my wifi devices/laptops were able to connect seamlessly so the speed of the connection at the modem (cable) which was fast enough to do work when needed via the internet. The views are amazing and if you are looking for a beachfront location, from the six floor with its view of Molokai and Lanai are worth the price of admission while you can see the kids on the beach below. The owner has owned it for over twenty years and is one of the first users of VRBO, so that speaks volumes.

We found the unit in need of cleaning. The Asian decor is overwhelming. The heavy chains with padlocks on some cabinets were extremely "TACKY". Certainly there could be a better way to secure owners personal property. I believe the sliding wall in master bedroom should be disclosed. Unit is dated, needs a power wash, paint and updating for the rates being charged. Fans were provided but didn't work/broken. No hairdryer!!! On a positive note, the location is this place for view & ocean - NOT the unit!!!

Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

This review shows that it's not possible to please everyone. I would like to respond to the points made by this guest. In defense of my housekeeper of many years, Nani goes above and beyond what is needed to have things clean and nice for our guests. She is a very hard worker and an honest and friendly woman. Guests often leave complimentary notes and gratuities for Nani. As to the Asian decor, style is a matter of choice and my condo is exactly as shown in the photos. Some cabinets are locked with our personal items in them. I also have provided storage for clients who come every year, some of them for 8+ years. The track for the sliding wall is visible in the photos. It can be shut when privacy is needed, but if just one couple is there, having it open creates a wonderful feeling of spaciousness. I don't understand the comment about power washing my condo interior. As shown in our photos we have new tile flooring. Painting and other refurbishing is done as needed. Some things are vintage or antique and are not replaced. The lovely red Maui soil and the sand and salt air carried by the ocean breezes can sometimes present challenges for my housekeeper, but being so close to the beautiful Pacific makes it all worthwhile for my guests. The wonderful and powerful Maui sunshine makes maintenance an ongoing thing, but that sunshine is a big part of what makes Hawaii so desirable. There are overhead fans and we do provide small portable fans, in working condition, for those guests who don't want to use the zoned Air Conditioning. This guest had turned off the light switch that controls the fans. There was a hairdryer provided, apparently the red/yellow electrical button on the electrical outlet just needed to be reset. I hope this guest's comments don't discourage my future potential guests, but it did show that not everyone has the same opinion and not everyone has the same vacation experience. Please read my other reviews to show this. I will do a thorough inspection of my condo and see what I can do to insure that guests will be pleased.

Where to start? The Sands of Kahana is a beautiful high-rise resort. There are four towers. Numbers 2 and 3 are right on the beach, while numbers 1 and 4 are farther back. There is a nice restaurant/bar on the property, two pools, and a tennis court. I had heard that this resort, which is at least 30 years old, had become run down recently. This is not the case. I found it to be clean and well maintained. The staff--and there are a lot of them--were very friendly. The unit itself is deluxe. The photos on the site do not do the property justice. Specifically, this place is huge! I think this is the largest two bedroom vacation condo I've ever stayed in. The furniture is very nice, the appliances are higher end (the washer, dryer and hot water heater are full sized and the dishwasher is ultra-quiet), and everything worked as promised. The best part is the location of the unit. It is on the west corner of building 2, directly above the beach. It is high enough to be above the palm trees for an unobstructed view, and the view is fabulous. It is away from the restaurant, so you can't hear their exhaust fans, only the surf. Being on the west side, the unit is also on the leeward side, meaning that the trade winds, which cool the islands but create wind tunnels in condos, are minimal. This could be a problem on warm days, but luckily the unit has ample air conditioning. I heartily recommend #3744.

Judith, Thanks so much for letting us rent your wonderful condo. We had a great time staying at your little piece of paradise. The photos do not do it justice this place is huge. Clean, comfortable and well maintained. The views from the lanais were fantastic and we found that we spent a lot of time day and night just sitting out there enjoying the sights and sounds. The trade winds at night were refreshing and we also saw many turtles from the lanai. Too late for whale season though. Awesome snorkelling right out front and many amenities close by. The pool area always had chairs available as with the beach area. Service and smiles abound from the staff and the food in the restaurant is pretty good too. Happy hour everyday from 3-5 was great and we met lots of nice people from all walks of life. Checked out Kannapali beach one day and decided it was wayyyy too busy for us. The Sands Of Kahana is quieter and more laid back and gave us the relaxing vacation we were hoping for. This is the first time I have ever been on a vacation where the accomodations far exceeded expectations.

We just returned from a weeks stay in this amazing condo! I could not believe the amount of space we had. Loved the separate bedroom/bathroom/lanai area. Views from every single window were breathtaking - including the view from the shower in the second bathroom!!! Overall an amazing trip! Didn't have the best experience in the restaurant but the quiet atmosphere of the pool and beach front were just a couple of the many exceptional features the Sands of Kahana have to offer! Can't wait to go back!! :)

Wonderful wacation

My family and I spent the most amazing two weeks in this beautiful condo. The condo is very spacious and quiet, just a few steps from the pool and the ocean. We enjoyed cooking in the fully equipped kitchen and having our meal on the balcony. Having a washer and dryer in the unit was a wonderful surprise. But the best thing about this condo are the priceless views from every room. We can't wait to go back and we are already planing our next trip there.

So close to the beach!!

Best condo I have ever stayed in. So much space, beds comfortable, everything you can imagine is already there, plenty of towels, and grills on site. VIEWS FROM EVERY ROOM!! Never turned on any of the 3 TV's - the view was hard to stop looking at. Went to sleep every night to the sound of the waves and fresh ocean breeze. No need for A/C, but it is there if you do. The grounds were great, loved having lounge chairs in the grass areas and the hot tub. Easy check-in and check-out. Sometimes found parking under cover. Loved the location, had no problem getting around the island.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay in your beautiful unit and decided that there is no better way to enjoy the holidays than being in Maui! What a way to bring in the new year - just loved the views - what a great way to start your days! Everything was better than we expected and we can't wait to get back. This really was a great condo to rent for our stay in Maui. Ocean views from practically every room of the condo. You can watch the sun set on the Pacific every evening from the lanai. The condo is very spacious. It's close to good restaurants, shopping, golf and some of the best snorkeling on the island is only about a 10 minute drive north right off one of the beaches. The staff does a great job keeping the grounds maintained. It really feels as if you are guest in someone's home rather than just renting a condo. You can't go wrong making this your place to stay in Maui.

I just wanted to again thank you for letting us use your beautiful condo for our vacation in Maui! The moment we walked in the door and saw the beautiful ocean from almost anywhere inside it, we were awestruck! It was so peaceful and the views were awesome!!! Just what we needed and wanted. Paradise! The first few days the weather was overcast and showers - but we still had a wonderful time watching the whales from the lanai, bathroom, bedroom. How amazing to experience those giant creatures out in the ocean with their babies and see them breaching - it was truly unbelievable for us. We also went on a whale watching trip twice because it was so great! When we get the opportunity to go back to Maui we will definitely be in touch with you about your condo.

We stayed here in February 2008 and absolutely loved it. The owner was so helpful and accommodating. Beautiful decor, and the location is one of the best spots in the entire complex, as it has ocean views from every room, including the bathrooms! We are looking forward to renting this unit again in 2010!

One of my favorite guests told me that he had just written up a lengthly, glowing comment for this online guest book. He was about to post it when his wife told him not to. He told me: Do you know why you don't have many comments in your guest book? We had the most AMAZING time in your beautiful condo! Waking up daily to the sound of waves and Maui's beautiful sunrise was breathtaking. We also had the chance to watch a sea turtle lounge right off the beach from your quaint lanai. It was quite the treat to be able to stay in a beach front, very spacious and very clean condo for our vacation. We will cherish the memories we made here and most definitely return next year. The pictures do not do this condo justice. First of all, you forget that you are in a condo & feel like you are in a home. The view is unspeakable! We had a view from almost every room in the house & I don't mean just a view but a marvelous view, even in the shower!! We saw turtles from our lania & enjoyed ocean breezes morning and evening! The pool is great & the restaurant was also very good. Loved Happy Hour around the pool each day at 2pm. I truly cannot say enough about this beautiful home. If you want comfort, beauty, serenity then you want to stay here!! Everything you ever need for cooking is in the kitchen. The condo was very clean & updated. The furniture was comfortable and believe me that is a rare find in Hawaii. We usually end up with those bamboo furnishings that are so uncomfortable. Not here! Every bed is comfortable, every couch & chair. We celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary here & had the time of our lives. The location was great and I would highly reccomend that you stay here and I am picky!!! P.S. No I'm not a relative or friend, just someone who felt like they died & went to heaven!!
