Despite weather that was less than ideal, we had a fantastic week staying at the Key Lime Kottage. Our criteria in looking for a place was that it be secluded (we have a child with special needs who needs his own space), that it be comfortable, that it be in a convenient location, and that it have amenities. Key Lime Kottage surpassed all of those expectations. It is a beautiful property that is set back from the Overseas Highway about 100 yards, and is about 30 yards from the Gulf. Complete privacy on both sides. The place is immaculately maintained. The owners, as well as Norm and Betsy (the caretakers) have anticipated every possible thing you could possibly need. Little extras like labeling the light fixtures, providing board games and a puzzle for rainy days, and a handbook describing how everything works, show how willing they are willing to go to make sure the stay was comfortable. The house is also in a convenient location -- right next door to a little restaurant called the Wreck (food is OK, not great, but the service was good) as well as the Dolphin Research Center. It is about 10 minutes from Marathon, and about 25 minutes from Islamorada. Finally, the amenities -- the kayaks, the bikes, and the fishing poles. These would have been expensive to rent for the week, and we made use of all of them. Morever, the appliances and the grill are top-notch, and add greatly to the overall convenience. If you are looking for a place to stay in the Keys, I can't imagine a better place at this price point.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We know that your weather was less then ideal but we are so happy that you made the most of it! We appreciate your patronage and do hope that you will give the weather another chance in the future! We would love to have you back!

I spent a wonderful week at the Kottage with my best girlfriends. I had never been to the Keys before and found the location perfect. It was located close to good restaurants, grocer's and many activities. We even found a wonderful bakery to celebrate two birthdays with a cake! Key Lime Kottage is situated almost in the middle of the Keys so exploring others Keys, including Key West was very easy and no more than an hour away. My favorite activity was relaxing at the Kottage. It was secluded and felt like we were on our own little island. The house was very comfortable, clean and accomodating to a large group. Very inviting. The pool and hot tub couldn't have been better. The waterfall was very relaxing and there were plenty of pool toys. Even adults can indulge in a little pool fun! I also enjoyed having Iggy the Iguana visit us almost daily. It was fun feeding him lettuce and pineapple. Overall, I would highly recommend Key Lime Kottage and hope to return soon.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: So glad you all enjoyed the time at the Keys. Please come back to see us at Key Lime Kottage again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Key Lime Kottage. Upon arrival we were thrilled to see everything looked exactly like the pictures. We had a lot of rain during our stay but due to the use of your home we were still able to have a very enjoyable vacation. Everything you need is provided for you. The pool area is very nice and we spent alot of time in the pool even though the sun didn't shine much while we were there. After spending the day at Key West, it was nice to come back and enjoy our own private spa and pool. We did have enough nice weather to be able to enjoy the kayaks, we have kayaks at home so it was nice to be able "yak" on vacation as well. The walkout platform was our favorite spot at your home. We spent time out there enjoying the view, many sunsets as well as fishing. My husband caught about a 15" barracuda. We enjoyed watching "iggy" walking about (when the sun was out) and the geckos hanging around. Favorite places to eat were at The Island (great breakfast on the waterfront) and the Wreck (the waitress Terry is a hoot) also Rob Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice was there eating during one of our visits to the Wreck. Over all we would highly recommend Key Lime Kottage to others, it is beautiful, very clean, peaceful & most of all private. It was the best place to spend our 20th wedding anniversary!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: SO happy that you two had a wonderful anniversary in our home. I am hoping that if you decide to come to Key Lime Kottage again that the rain will stay away!!! Thank you for your patronage..

what an unbelievably wonderful place! I was with 5 of my very favorite lady friends for a relaxing vacation, no husbands, kids or responsibilities. This house fulfilled all of my wishes. Beautiful home stocked with everything you could imagine that you might need. The bed (twin room) was soooooo comfy that I didn't want to get out of it, and didn't for a while most mornings. The salt water pool and hot tub were where we spent most of our days..ahhhh. The location is perfect as well, not too far from anything. Spent two days in Key West and the drive wasn't too bad. Didn't get a chance to use the kayaks but they are very nice and the bikes as well. We did use some of the pool "toys" for a water battle. We laughed until we cried. Best most relaxing vacation I've had in a long time. Thank you, Janet, for providing such a fantastic oasis for a wonderful time. I would definitely go back again!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad all of you ladies had such a wonderful reunion! Please come back again to the Keys and stay with us!

I am sure there are many places to rent in the Keys, but I can promise you none surpass Key Lime Kottage. To me, it is apparent this is a home that receives lots of TLC--it is much more than just a rental place. It is exactly as represented in the pictures, description, and reviews. I was there for a glorious week to celebrate a 60th birthday for 2 of us (college friends) as well as a celebration of wonderful friendship for all 6 of us. Key Lime Kottage provided the perfect place for both. We loved everything--the comfortable beds, the huge TV, a grill that made some delicious food, the adorable bathrooms, the beautiful hardwood floors, the luxurious linens. The owners obviously care that anyone staying there will not disappointed in any way and I can tell you that our expectations were exceeded. If you want a wonderful place--near restaurants, the dolphin research center, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, excursions to Key West--you will find none better. Thank you for a most memorable birthday--this made turning 60 a joy!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Sounds like all 6 of you had a ball at Key Lime Kottage! Please come back for your next reunion!!

I stayed at Key Lime Kottage with a group of very good girl friends. The house couldn't have been more perfect for our stay if I would have designed it myself. Everything was just as described and as in the pictures and more! We hung by the pool, fed "Iggy" the "house" iguana, drove to Key West for the day (which is only about an hour away), and went snorkeling at Hawk's Cay. We really had a wonderful week. The house if fully equiped with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. I shared the twin bedroom with a friend and the beds were so comfortable! I would recommend this house to anyone looking to go to the Keys and enjoy the water, scenery, and relaxed lifestyle!! We didn't want to leave!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: So happy you had a great time! Please come back and see us again!

During our 10 years together my wife and I have been lucky enough to say at some very nice hotels like the Ritz, Four Seasons, Caves in Jamaica, and Spice Island Resort in Grenada. While all these resorts were very nice you have to “share” your vacation with the other folks at the resort. Sometimes, this is nice when you meet good people but many times this can be annoying (aka kids overrunning a pool or the “loud” couple). Many times my wife and I just wanted to be together alone (like before we had kids). Selfishly, we didn’t want to share a vacation with anyone. The Keylime Kottage was just PERFECT for us. So quiet, so peaceful, so beautiful, and so relaxing. The Kottage truly lets you make the vacation your own. As I said my wife and I wanted some time alone away from anyone. I can’t imagine a better place. You’re 100 feet from US1 but you feel miles away from anyone. The mangroves on both sides of the Kottage offer plenty of privacy. I think one time the entire week we heard some folks at the resort next-door. That is how secluded this place is. My wife and I spent days at the pool and nights at some amazing local restaurants only to come back for a late-night swim. This was our idea of a perfect vacation and the Keylime Kottage is our idea of paradise. We couldn’t have imagined a better place to help us remember why we fell in love over 20 years ago. Now, we wanted a romantic and secluded vacation and the Kottage delivered. With that being said, you can make a vacation to the Kottage anything you want. If you have kids or are looking for some excitement there are lots of local places to rent jet skis, Go mini-golfing, and some of the best fishing in the world right down the street. You can swim with dolphins’ right next door. If you’re looking for nightlife Key West is less than an hour away. My wife and I went down on a Thursday night and we weren’t disappointed by the nightlife with great people, great music, and lots of great bars to go to. I can’t imagine any type of vacation not being a success at Keylime Kottage. Here are my top 10 reasons to go to Keylime Kottage (I could have come up with a 100 reasons but this review is long enough as is). 10) Weather – On the “rainy” day it rained for about 10 minutes. Every day in May was sunny and in the high 80s. 9) Swim deck – Had coffee on the swim deck every morning and watch the sun go down every night. 8) Iggy the Keylime Kottage resident Iguana. He will stop by and make sure everything is ORecommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: SO happy that you and your wife were able to have some privacy and be away from everyone for a week! We are glad to share this little cottage with our guests! Please come back and see us again!

I stayed at this amazing home last year and it was wonderful! This year, although I didn't think it could be possible, the home & experience were even better! Since last year, a dock has been added with a bench facing the west that gives a perfect view of the sunset. Spectacular!!! Then the front yard is now stone, allowing more parking, if needed, as well as adding to the appearance of the front of the house. There are also fruit trees added that line the driveway on both sides. There were actuallty key limes growing on the trees in the pool area! Everything that could possibly be desired was provided, including top of the line appliances, kayaks, bicycles, pool toys, etc. It was a magnificient experience & I highly recommend Key Lime Kottage to anyone!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: So glad you came back to Key Lime Kottage again! Happy you enjoyed yourselves. Please come back again and thank you for your patronage.

This was our second stay at Key Lime Kottage, and it will definitely not be the last! We couldn't wait to get back to this peaceful place, and it was just as wonderful as we remembered! You wake up looking forward to relaxing by the beautiful pool every day, go get some great food at one of the nearby restaurants, ride bikes around the island or walk the bridge to Pigeon Key looking for sea turtles and tarpon, and then watch a beautiful sunset from the dock or the kayaks. We love this place so much that we spent a lot of time exploring the island for a house of our own someday! Riding bikes to dinner at the nearby Hideaway Cafe is a must and definitely try rib night at The Wreck next door. Lazy Days is still a favorite restaurant and Frank's Grill is a hidden gem for Italian food. And once again, we found it very easy to cook some meals at home with the fully stocked kitchen and grill. The huge TV made for a great movie night too! We were truly sad when we had to pack up and leave, but we will definitely be back soon! Thanks again for allowing us the pleasure of staying at Key Lime Kottage.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We live in Indiana and purchased this home as a rental property. We have decorated it and furnished it as if we lived there ourselves. We have purchased high end appliances, mattresses and linens. We are professionals who own companies and know how important customer service is to everyone.
Why the Owner Chose Grassy Key:
This property caught our eye because there is alot of privacy in the back yard. You feel like you are engulfed in nature. You will be close to Marathon and alot of activities however when you are at the house you feel secluded and private.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The fact that this house is on such a private setting is what really appealed to us. On both sides no one can build a house because it is protected wetlands. Grassy Key is very laid back and quiet, yet we are an hour away from Key West where there is always something going on. Lots of shopping, great restaurants, bars and wonderful sunsets.
We are less than 5 minutes from Marathon where you have two fairly large grocery stores, restaurants and bars. Lots of marinas where you can rent boats and lots of places to charter fishing trips. The unique feel of the Florida Keys is like no other place in the US. You will really be in paradise when you stay here!
