Meadow House ~a Sanctuary in the Heart of the Colestin Valley

Treat yourself to some well deserved R & R in a valley long held sacred by the Native peoples. Relax and recharge, rest and recuperate, reflect and research, retreat and review, reach inward and regroup, or run, revitalize, re-energize, refresh, rollick and revel in the many recreations in the region.
As the name suggests the house sits on the edge of a meadow with beautiful views including Mount Ashland and the Siskiyou Mountains. The Meadow House was built in 1987 by a Buddhist nun. The care and attention to detail in the placement and building of the house makes for a serene and idyllic setting.
The house comfortably sleeps up to ten (7 plus extra futons). The guest quarters feature a king size bed, writing desk, walk-in closet with a child's bed, adjoining bathroom with shower, living room sofa bed, second bathroom, and a lower level 'family room' with extra beds, and separate entrance.
There is a top floor over the garage with a separate entrance, bedroom, office, and kitchenette. The separate entrance through the garage gives guests complete privacy. Generally invisible to guests, the owner is available to answer questions. Rentals are for one set of guests at a time, so the house is all yours, even if you don't need the lower level family room.
The modern facilities include washer, dryer, dishwasher, freezer, full electric kitchen with microwave, toaster oven, WiFi computer access, internet and fax links, and television (if you absolutely have to stay connected with the world outside the valley).
The Meadow House boasts extensive LP, CD, audio, video, and DVD collections. Curl up on the couch in front of the toasty wood stove with a book from the library that will serve you well whatever your tastes and interests, from science to personal growth, from health to art, cooking to photography. The piano is an added feature with a varied selection of music from beginner to advanced.
To be active or not to be active, that is the question. The choice is yours! The mythical State of Jefferson (Northern California and Southern Oregon) has much to offer from the sublime to adrenaline pumping.
Your choices include: do nothing; read or listen to music, meditate or contemplate, walk, hike, jog or run. Other activities include rock climbing, river rafting, downhill or cross-country skiing, home cooking or fine dining, enjoying the theater, concert and much more ...
The Siskiyou Mountains are rich with trails giving access to the Pacific Crest Trail, Pilot Rock and Mt. Ashland. River raft or kayak the wild and scenic rivers of the Rogue or Klamath rivers that vary from sedate to thrilling stretches.
Ski the Mount Shasta or Mount Ashland Ski and Snowboard Resort. With advance booking, attend The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Stageworks. The Britt Music Festival and other theater and performance venues offer a vibrant cultural experience in nearby Ashland and Jacksonville.
Within the valley: a visit to Tashi Choling, a Tibetan Buddhist Temple and Prayer Garden is an absolute must and just a short walk from the Meadow House. The valley was untouched by glaciation and holds many unique plant varieties.
Great opportunities to see eagles, hawks, vultures, wild turkeys, bluebirds, gold finches, swallows, deer, elk, bobcats, coyotes -- all kinds of animal and bird-watching abound for the patient observer.
The usually clear skies afford excellent night sky viewing of the Milky Way, planets, constellations, and meteor showers (especially in August and November).
The Meadow House offers YOU a unique experience!

The Meadow House is one of the most relaxing places we’ve been. It is situated in a quiet valley with hills and mountains all around. Being very isolated yet close to everything is a rare situation but the Meadow House delivers. Spend the time exploring Ashland (great restaurants, grocery stores, culture, etc.) or hiking through the mountains. Visit numerous parks or just enjoy the beauty of the Meadow House’s 24 acres. We love cooking meals in the large kitchen and having barbeques on the deck overlooking the breathtakingly beautiful valley. At night we really enjoy the stars, which shine brightly. The Milky Way is always in view except during a bright moon, but when the moon is full the entire valley seems to glow. Our dogs love running around the property chasing squirrels and taking dips into the little stream that runs through. Keeping in touch with the outside world is easy with the HDTV and DISH network. Broadband wireless Internet access is also present. We love the Meadow House and its elegant simplicity. You can do everything or just relax away from it all. We’ve been there numerous times and each time we find something fun to do.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you, Kirsi and Andrew, for this glowing review! The delight that you take in the Meadow House is shared by many who have stayed here. You win the prize for most returns! Your prize is a night "on the House." We look forward to seeing you again soon. All four of you! Gratefully, Mouna

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1989
About the owner: My brother and his partner, Rick, bought the property in 1989. My brother died in 1990. Rick stayed on until his passing in 2011. His family in the East asked me to manage the place, since I live just up the road and own a vacation rental, The BadTaste *B-n-B*.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The sky at night is one of the most unique benefits of this
property. No matter the phase of the moon, the stars are always visible three hundred and sixty degrees. Often elk and deer graze across the meadow, visible but oblivious to being watched. Bob cat, fox, coyote, skunk, raccoon, snake, squirrel, swallow, blue bird, hawk and eagle grace the land with their shy presence.
