This was the perfect home away from home for our weekend. The property is clean, cozy..........lots of room for visiting, very well equipped kitchen and two eating areas. Beds were comfortable with nice linens. Bathrooms complete with soft towels. Jim and Carole, the owners were so very nice and accommodating. In fact, when we went to the Augusta County Garden Tour, we left the crock pot on and couldn't remember when it was left on High or Low. I called Jim and he was ever so happy to go and check it for us. He even called me back to tell me that I had actually left it on low! The property was beautiful with spring flowers blooming in well maintained beds. In the pasture there were sheep, and chickens in the coup. Carole shared with us the fresh eggs she had gathered that day. Outside there was patio furniture, a fire pit, nice deck. Staunton, VA is about 16 miles from the Cottage. We went to a play at the ASC Blackfriars Theater and it was very good with excellent actors. We would definitely recommend this property for families with children or couples who want to experience the mountains.

My partner and I along with our 10 month old son loved the cottage is very comfortable and the host's farm is great -- chickens, sheep, friendly cats and dogs, and ponies. The property is beautiful and peaceful. The hosts are amazing and made us feel part of their family. They invited us to their grandson's birthday party which included a hay ride around the property. The hosts are welcoming and attentive without being instrusive. We would recommend the cottage to anyhow who is looking for a peaceful and beautiful property close to historic Staunton. While we took our vacation in October, this property would be a great place any time of year!

Our family of 4 (mom, dad, and daughters 12 and nearly 16) spent a week here in July, 2012. The rural setting and serenity provided the perfect environment for us to enjoy each other's company. My daughters paid it the ultimate compliment when they independently on 2 different days while we were getting a fire going to make Smores over the fire pit told me that it was their favorite of all the places we’d ever stayed on a vacation which ranked it higher than New York City, Yellowstone, the Tetons, the Grand Canyon and numerous national parks in Utah among others. The nearby (i.e., 15 – 20 minutes) Staunton is full of historic charm. Monticello and other points of interest are within a drive of an hour or so. The Shenandoah Valley’s scenic beauty made even the drives a delight. The converted from a horse barn cottage is quaint and adequately comfortable. It is certainly a place we’d stay again and recommend to other families.

We just returned from a lovely stay at the Cottage over the 4th of July. We were two families visiting with little babies and we found the house well appointed and very clean. The owners were very helpful while still being considerate to our privacy. The house is located on a ridge with great views on all sides. We loved having access to fresh veggies from Carole's garden and ate like kings each night grilling out. The farm animals were fun distractions for the little ones and the pool was a nice escape from the heat. They even had baby pool floats, beach towels and toys for us to use. There had been bad storms prior to arrival but thankfully the electricity had returned and the fallen trees hadn't damaged any of the houses. Our only challenge was the unusually high temperatures. Being from Texas we are accustomed to heat but also spoiled with our central AC. The two window units at the house had to work hard to keep up with the heat and we found one side of the house to be a little hot for sleeping at night. I suspect this is not a common problem usually and I would certainly stay here again. We didn't get a chance to make many excursions because of our little children but we did enjoy seeing Staunton which was about 15 minutes away. It was actually listed as one of the top ten small towns in America by Smithsonian Magazine so definitely check it out if in the area. Thanks to Carole and Jim and their family for a warm welcome and pleasant stay!

Our stay at Seven Oaks was a great success! 2 families with children in tow enjoyed the comfortable surroundings; cooking was easy and there were plenty of areas to relax within the house. Jim and Carole are welcoming hosts who were happy to share produce from their garden as well as introductions to their livestock/pets. The kids loved every minute of their stay - between the animals, space to run around and the pool, picking a favourite may be tough! Have already recommended this property to friends.

We stayed here over a Memorial Day weekend with some friends. The house, pool and setting were all more beautiful and comfortable than we had expected, and we had a wonderful time. The whole property is very well cared for, with lovely landscaping and beautiful views. The saltwater pool was perfect and we all enjoyed swimming a good bit--the extra pool toys provided were a big hit with our kids. Everyone enjoyed having the farm animals nearby. The owners live next door and were very helpful and friendly, but also gave us plenty of privacy. We hope to return!

The pictures on the site do not do the property justice. The farm is beautiful and peaceful with lovely vistas. The cottage (a former barn) was large and roomy, immaculately clean (if your standard is that you could eat off the floors - this is it), very nicely furnished - not your usual "cottage" second hand stuff--with all of the comforts of home. The owners (the Groves) were on site to answer all questions but the cottage was so well stocked and self-contained, we didn't need anything!. I was there for two days over Thanksgiving--it was unseasonably warm during the day, but the nights were cool and the cottage was warm and cozy. There was no skimping on the heat. Beautiful downtown Staunton is 15 minutes away with many charming stores (hooray! no chains), good restaurants, bakeries. We shopped at the Cranberry Grocery in Staunton (which includes a small market, general store, cafe and coffee bar) and got some wonderful sandwiches (had a bit for the sandwiches- but the only downside) for our hike in the Shenandoah National Park, which, along with the Blue Ridge Parkway, is very easy to get to from the cottage. We were able to make it to Charlottesville in 45 minutes on one evening. This is a great home base for taking beautiful hikes at the SNP during the day and relaxing and enjoying the beauty of this farm in the evening and morning. My favorite part was just sitting outside in the early morning sipping hot chocolate enjoying the tranquility of the expansive surroundings then strolling down the drive to say good morning to the mules, the cows and the sheep. You will also be warmly greeted by the Groves' friendly dogs They have walking trails on the property which we did not avail ourselves since we went hiking at Shenandoah. Because we were there in November, the pool was closed, but is located right outside the cottage and is clearly would be an added bonus in the summer, along the grill on an outside deck. Though we were a party of two we loved having so much room to spread out - but this is a great place for families. The Cottage at Seven Oaks Farms is a unique and wonderful property which was so much more fabulous and luxurious than any hotel you could stay at for the same price. Wish we could have stayed longer.

                              Why the Owner Chose Harrisonburg:
It would be hard to find a better location for a vacation rental. For historians, we are in the heart of colonial America and a comfortable drive to the Nation's Capital in Washington, DC. Another direction will take you to the beautiful Atlantic Beaches for a quick overnite stay or a long day's outing. Naturalists will enjoy pristine mountain streams known for exceptional trout fishing, or expansive National forests with mountain lakes. This property is well suited for people who wish to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of the Valley and mountains, as well as those who wish to visit the myriad of attractions nearby or within short driving distance. It is a perfect place for photographers, artists, musicans, birdwatchers, writers or those simply seeking rest and relaxation. The four distinctive seasons lend themselves uniquely to a vacation anytime of the year. This is a family friendly home with safe outside play areas for children. Our farm menagerie includes donkeys, sheep, cattle, and beautiful laying hens who lay colorful eggs - including green and blue! Our family pets include friendly dogs and cats and two retired ponies. Our guests can enjoy the bounty of our family garden while they are here as well as fresh eggs if they like.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Two of the most strking benefits of staying here are the magnificent morning vistas of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains. Often the morning mist outlines the layers of mountain tops that cause you to pause, and often get your camera! Equally as beautiful, are the spectacular starry skies that are displayed on clear, cool nights. With no light polution from urban areas, the starry skies are a sight to behold!
