After coming back to Moloaa Shangrila, the first thing we did was look at when we can come back. This is truly what we come for. Beauty, Serenity and Peace. When you look at the photos you think it cant be any better. Once you get there, you realize it can. There grounds are not only beautiful, but beckon back to old Hawaii before the commercialization and crowds. It is not just the property that is so wonderful. The owners are truly great people. Their hospitality and graciousness is what brings us back. The agreement and transaction is honest, straight forward and there are no surprises. The location on the island is perfect. A short ride from the north or eastern shores. Moloaa Bay has so much to offer, there is really no need to go anywhere else. But if you do, you instantly wind down when you return home. We have been to Kauai many times but once we stayed here, we never go anywhere else. Mahalo Shangrila!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Words don't describe the sheer beauty and peace of this magical place. My husband and I came for only three nights and there could not have been a better spot to relax, rejuvenate, and refresh our minds and spirits. You could feel how lovingly the owners built this estate, every nook invited rest and relaxation - from the beautiful pool with warm sunning rocks, to the outdoor fireplace perfect after a midnight swim, to the luxurious daybed for afternoon naps on the lanai. Fruit trees and the sounds of the river were a perfect backdrop for a fantastically dreamy mini vacation. Beautiful Molaa Bay with gorgeous tidepools a quick 5 minute walk away. We immediately wanted to book again for the fall, this time with the whole family in tow. What is a perfectly romantic getaway is also a sprawling playground paradise for kids. The shallow pool is perfect for the toddlers, the ping pong table and surfboards great for the older kids, the huge kitchen a centerpiece for big family meals. We can't wait to share this with our loved ones, and hope to come back year after year. What a find! Thank you Cheryl and Mike!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Every time I looked at the pictures of this place before we went I just couldn't wait to be there. Being there was even better than expected. This place is so beautiful, well kept and obviously loved by the owners. They were great to work with during the booking process and very gracious when we arrived. I can't say anything bad about it. The kitchen is very well supplied. The beds are super comfy. The stream outside lulls you to sleep at night. Every place you look there is beauty and so many cool decorations. . I suppose if there is a down side it is that you don't want to leave to see the rest of the island. We did manage to pry ourselves away though and very much enjoyed the other sites of the island. We look forward to returning.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Could not have asked for a better location or place to hang one's hat for a week and dial it down. Hours and hours of research on VRBO payed off! This private estate is centrally located and a 35-45 minute car ride to any part of the island. As Mike and Cheryl's only guest that week, we had full use of the first and second floor of the house and exclusive use of the hot tub and pool, complete with waterfall and outdoor fireplace. The grounds are secluded and very jungle-like with a Bali-theme decor throughout. The host's were great fun and most interesting. Not everyone knows Graham Nash or Todd Rungren...... The hardest part for us was packing up to leave. Truly paradise!! We would not want to stay anywhere else. If one enjoy's peace, quiet, seclusion and a short walk to Moloaa Bay beach, look no further. Great alternative to St. Regis or condo-ville. Thanks Mike and Cheryl for sharing your inspiration for a beautiful respite. Cheryl, you have such a keen knack for blending mother nature's palette with your Balinese decor. Your personal touches through out your home reflect the beauty and splendor that makes visiting Kauai truly magical. We'll be back!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

WOW, we are all still pinching ourselves at the wonderful beauty of Moloaa Shangrila! It is a breathtaking experience into paridise! Cheryl, the owner, is an absolute doll and amazing woman. She has decorated this place (and designed and built the property) and it seems as if every inch of space has her creative touches. She has a flare for design that is most extrodinary to say the least! She is truely inspirational woman and the feel of this place is magical! You will literally feel like your world has stood still in the most beautiful place on earth! From the moment we entered the property, we were in a world of paradise. It is very calming place and very spiritually uplifting. We hardly needed to venture off because the place was so fantastic. We had all of the comforts of home and then some. It was a girls retreat with my daughter and friends, however; this would be ideal place for anyone; kids, wedding would be perfect, or we are now talking about a reunion here next year. Whether small party or large, this is the perfect place! The flowers and follage is wonderful. A small creek runs through the property and the birds are everywhere! The ocean is just a short walk and Cheryl has everything you need to snorkel, boogie board, or just lounge on matts or chairs. The fruit stand at the end of the road was a hit with us because the girls like their healthy smoothies and sandwiches. We shopped for major groceries a few minutes away in Kappa, but did pick a few items up at a local store just a few miles. We also loved going north to Princeville where the girls did a venture consisting of a hike, zip line, and kayak, ending up at a pool where they swam! It was all amazing. I recommend this to all of my friends and will be coming back for years to come. The trip was amazing and one that we will remember for a lifetime! Thank you Cheryl and Mike for your hospitality and allowing us to explore your world. -Becky, Kim, and Brittany 11-11-11Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Hello fellow travelers, I am a past resident of the island of Kauai. I have been to Moloaa Shangila many many times and will be taking my boyfriend there in two days. It is his very first trip to Kauai and I am thrilled that he will be able to experience the island from such an amazing base as Moloaa Shangrila Estate (it is going to be hard to get him to leave the property!). As a past resident of the island let me share a little of Moloaa Shangrila Estate’s history with you. It started out as a simple Hawaiian home on a small plot of land surrounded by a cow pasture. With the amazing vision, hard work and literal sweat of its owner, she slowly and painstakingly turned this cow pasture into the beautiful estate you see on this page. The pictures are truly representative of its understated opulence and good taste. The houses on the property are filled with amazing Balinese carvings, art and furniture. The setting is tranquil and uber private. I would highly recommend Moloaa Shangrila Estate. It is an amazing experience.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Moloa'a Shangrila is an absolutely exquisite estate. With the owner's unique and beautiful decorating, landscaping & architectural design, you feel transported to a far and away tropical dreamplace somewhere between Hawaii & Bali. Our family of five (3 children: 11, 8 & 6yrs) fell in love with this magical place! We spent endless hours exploring the grounds with its fruit trees, pools, waterfalls and running creek..bbq'd and relaxed on the lanais, made s'mores under the stars in the huge outdoor fireplace..and enjoyed the comfort and beauty of the well-equipped house. When finally stepping off of the property, Moloa'a Beach is a walk down the road, and the house is equipped with surfboards, boogieboards, sandtoys, chairs, coolers...since there are only private properties surrounding the bay, this beach is secluded and practically deserted, save for a few locals, fishermen and lucky vacationers. We are already missing Kauai and can't wait for our next visit... Thank you Cheryl for your warmest of aloha spirits and lovely piece of paradise!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you for three nights in paradise. We would have stayed for a month if possible. We couldn’t have imagined a more wonderful place to be. We took my mother-in-law up to Hanalei to see it for the first time since 1940 when she stayed in the middle of one of the three cottages that were the only structures along the beach at the time. Then we had lunch at the St. Regis Resort. Between the crowded development of Hanalei and the gaudiness of the resort, it was a bit overwhelming, and my mother-in-law kept saying, “Thank goodness for Shagri-la.” She, like us, couldn’t wait to get back. You truly have created a magical place. Thank you for sharing it with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My sweetie and I stayed at Moloaa-Shangri la only three nights, we will come back for many more. This place is true to it's name. We stayed in the honeymoon cottage, the only bad thing about this wonderful place is that it's so hard to want to go anywhere else and explore. It's very romantic. The pictures just don't do it justice. If your looking for a great quiet place to get away from it all and have a truly romantic experience, this is it. The owner took us on a tour of the main house too, amazing, it's like going to Indonesia. Eleven beautiful acres of bliss.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We very much enjoyed our Honeymoon stay at the Shangri-La Moloa’a Estate. We stayed at the Main House and it is very unique with its architecture and décor. The home is filled with lots of vintage Asian lamps and knick knacks, with beautiful wood floors. Though the best part of the large estate are the beautiful grounds and colorful gardens, along with the obligatory chickens and geckos. The groundskeeper was very helpful getting us situated when we arrived. The Moloa’a beach is just a quick 4-5 minute walk from the estate, still close enough to hear the waves breaking from our bed at night. The Estate is located within an easy 30-45 minutes drive of most every corner of the island. The total environment made our stay on Kauai a very memorable one, much better than staying at a sterile hotel room. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I decided on ShangriLa for our belated honeymoon vacation. We've been to Hawaii many times but never experienced it like this - it truly is a Shangrila paradise. The photos on the website reveal some of the beauty but it is even better in real life. We simply didn't want to leave. If you want to experience real Hawaiian living without all the problems that goes along with hotels/resorts, this is it. We also found it to be ideally located on the island for our needs, centrally positioned so getting to all the places and activities we wanted was very easy. At the end of the day a private drive down into the valley by the beach to ShangriLa, away from everything. The house is extremely clean and well maintained, and the hosts are a joy to work with and very gracious. We highly recommend it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Moloaa Shangrila was our base for the last 7 nights of our 2 week, 3 island, 1st time Hawaiian trip courtesy of our son Jeffrey and his partner Jay, 4-time visitors to Hawaii, who also acted as our tour guides. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. Nothing like the usual cookie-cutter vacation accommodations and a gourmet kitchen that thrilled chef Jay. As Cheryl’s only guests that week we were lucky enough to have exclusive use of the pool and hot tub. The grounds were secluded and the Bali-decor theme made it seem as if we were on our own private island - one with every modern convenience and comfortable beds. Separate house levels assured everyone’s privacy. A very short walk took us to Moloaa Bay for beach and snorkeling. Princeville golf and spa facilities, as well as shopping in Kappa and Hanalai were only a few minutes drive. To cap the experience, we were able to renew our vows on our 50th anniversary Nov. 5, 2010 on Kee Beach at the base of Mount Makana, better known as Bali Hai in my favorite musical “South Pacific.” You can’t go wrong with Moloaa Shangrila. Mahalo, Cheryl. Thanks for the memories. Trish & Jerry Skillman New Braunfels, TXRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My Husand and I just returned from our amazing wedding/honeymoon at the Shangri-La Estate. Our wedding truly could not have been set in a more magical place! From the moment you enter this beautiful home, you are transported to a whole new world! You feel like the only one, in a true paradise! The house it's self is decorated beautifully, but the grounds left us speechless. We spend hours exploring the area, and I am confident we did not see it all! Every where we looked during our 5 day stay we would discover a new gem to admire! We enjoyed the hot tub every night, picking fresh fruit, lounging by the pool, and enjoyed some ping pong tournements! We lounged with the geckos and listened to the frogs near the river. If you are looking for a true escape, this is it! Moloa'a Bay is a short walk down the road and is a beautiful bay! We were married there and had a beautiful reception on the property. Thank you so much to Cheryl and Mike for such a wonderful experience! They were very helpful! Mike came to tend to the pool and set up the fires for us. I would recommend this property for any type of event, however, weddings are stunning here! If you are taking a small family vacation or planning your dream wedding, Shangri-la is the perfect setting for it! Words can not explain the memories we will carry with us for the rest of our lives from Shangri-la! Thank you again!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My daughter was married here in late June and we could not have picked a more idyllic or beautiful place. From the moment I booked with Cheryl months in advance I knew we had made the right choice. Cheryl was a dream to work with from the beginning to end. She helped put a yoga session together the morning of the wedding, let us come see the house on short notice and made sure we had provisions for breakfast the first morning we arrived. Our family and the groom's family took over the entire estate and had one of the best weeks of our life. The house is welcoming and beautifully decorated, the beds are comfy and the bathrooms are luxurious. The wedding guests were in awe of the magnificent house and the tropical lushness of the property. If you want a true tropical vacation book this property, you will experience the real meaning of paradise. We have been coming to Kauai for over 30 years and this was by far the best trip of them all.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My wife and I were lucky enough to spend the first 5 nights of our honeymoon in the upper level of this home. It provided a wonderful central location (between east and north Kauai) for us to travel and see many sights around the island, and we enjoyed the quiet peacefulness that the property had to offer. We loved eating eating meals outside on the open lanai, and we took a few short walks to the beach down the road. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable, but we didn't try any of the other beds in the home. We loved the open breeze through the house and the sounds of croaking frogs in the stream nearby. We were able to cook most breakfast and dinners at the house, and we often packed a lunch for our daytrips. However, we enjoyed a luau one night and a few of the other local spots for lunch. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay here, and we'd definitely recommend this place to any honeymooners or families traveling to Kauai.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I were in heaven, best honeymoon ever! Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine how spectacular Moloaa Shangrila would be for the the great price we paid! This stunning place is like a fairytale come true! And Cheryl was such a sweetheart we truly enjoyed meeting and chatting with her, she made us feel like family. It has the perfect location too, just a short walk to the breathtaking Moloaa Bay Beach. We enjoyed the turquoise sparkling water at the beach and great snorkeling adventures. As far as we are concerned, Moloaa Bay is the best beach on the entire island! It was romantic, secluded, gorgeous, and adventurous all in one! Although I must say we found it hard to leave the Moloaa Shangrila, even for the beach. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking, I imagine this is how the garden of Eden must have looked. The house was lovely, very clean and modern, our bedroom was fit for a king... we were truly spoiled! The pool with rock water fall was one of our favorites as well as the jacuzzi. The spectacular view of the stars lit up the sky at night. Absolutely a must do for everyone!! It's intimate and romantic enough for two and spacious and adventurous enough for the whole family. I only wish that we had our wedding there too! We miss you Moloaa Shangrila, can't wait to meet again!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

After making yearly family pilgrimages to Kauai, we have found absolute perfection in our quest for our ultimate vacation. I only wish we though of searching for Shangri la sooner! Moloaa Shangrila is one the most beautiful and natural settings you can find anywhere in the islands. The House offers a character and charm that makes you feel like you are living a dream. The only thing that can out do the grounds and home are the owners. In all our years of renting I have never felt such a welcome feeling and warmness. Doing business with them was the way it should always be. Simple, honest and a willingness to make your trip care free. If you are looking for a site for a Kauai Wedding - LOOK HERE FIRST. No photos can truly describe what it offers for a wedding site! We can’t wait to go back. Thank you Moloaa Shangrila!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.
