Claverack cottage description
“Farm Stay” is a popular European concept where people spend their vacation on a farm. Cowberry Crossing offers a bright, cozy, and charming one bedroom/one bath cottage nestled in the woodlands of the farm for farm stays. It is a private, complete residence with kitchen/living area and screened-in porch. The cottage can accomodate 4 when using the sofa bed and 6 by requesting an air mattress for the screen porch. Guests can relax and enjoy the farm setting with its animals, gardens, and wildlife, jump in on chores and gardening, or just use the farm as a home base while exploring this beautiful part of the Hudson River Valley. The farm stay includes produce that guests can harvest directly from the garden for the freshest possible meals imaginable. The farm's eggs and meat may be purchased to supplement produce.
Cowberry Crossing Farm is located on fifty acres in Claverack, New York. The Harrisons are committed to local, humane, sustainable farming and are certified organic and biodynamic. The small traditional family-run farm has a large and varied vegetable garden providing especially high quality food for our CSA members and farmers market customers. Animals found on the farm include chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, pigs, cows, horses, cats, bees, and Glory – the border collie. All are fed exclusively on organic feed and spend their days roaming freely on the farm. Richard and Cecile are happy to answer any questions about the farm and welcome visitors. Their children, Grace (age 14) and Reese (age 8) share in the work and fun on the farm and just might be your tour guides!

Relaxing, Fun Farm Stay
Relaxing, Fun Farm Stay
Our family stayed in the cottage for 5 days and loved every minute. The cottage is comfortable, attractive, has everything you need and is surrounded by the sounds of bird song. It is a short walk down a shady path to the farm where you can freely roam amongst the sheep, horses, chickens, pastures, and ponds. This is a working family farm so expect to be amongst all the equipment, tractors, etc. The farm family are wonderful hosts sharing farm info, tips for things to do in the area, and their good cheer. We received a farm tour and pond boat ride from their son - which delighted us all. We purchased delicious meat and eggs, and harvested our own greens from their garden. We even got to help watch over some baby chicks when the family was gone for the day to a farmers market.

About the owner: Richard and Cecile Harrison moved to Claverack in 2003 from California in search of rural living for their family which includes their daughter, Grace, and son, Reese. Community, living in harmony with nature, and a place to farm were the couple’s top priorities. Richard grew up on a small farm in Sussex, England and Cecile was raised in a rural area of California very focused on horses. Through farming with organic and biodynamic farming practices they feel that they can contribute to the earth’s well-being as well as to the health of their customers.
