  I highly recommend this place. My first time in Costa Rica. I phoned the owners directly who gave me so much information and were a tremendous help. When I arrived at the airport, they had someone to pick me u at the airport in Liberia, and drive me to the gated property. When I walked in, it was very new, clean, beautiful paint, great size and even two balconies. It's very quiet. There is a modern kitchen with granite, cooking appliances, amenities etc.. It was very clean, and also there were maids that came every other day. When I asked them to come daily it was not an issue either. The condo is large, very open, two bathrooms, also with granite and lots of windows. The lot next door is empty with grasses and trees. One day I saw monkeys traveling around the trees, very interesting to wake up to. There is a guard on premises at all times, who was also quite helpful with any questions I had. I ate at a place a block away, called the Castle Restaurant. It is outdoorsy with really great local food. There is a store on the same block to buy necessities and food/drink. I walked to the beach daily, took me 3 minutes, totally easy. I drove to several other beaches, they are all around and all close. In addition, FLAMINGO BEACH and tourist area is only 9 minutes driving time and I went there often as well. I stayed for 2 weeks and am definetely returning next year. What a bargain, I couldn't believe it!!

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

  We had a great time in Potrero and this condo. The people working and taking care of the place (John, william, Victor and Fatima) were very helpful and made us feel comfortable. Owen was also helpful and returned the deposit promptly the day we left, even before we contacted him ourselves. The condo and the surronding area is very nice, and we really enjoyed the stay, it is great as a quiet and relaxed getaway since the area is very calm and not much is happening (which can be both good and bad). The closest beach, Potrero beach, is big and quiet with long stretches of sand, but is doesn't really feel inviting for swimming, it is more like a boat/fishing beach, with grey sand, crabs, and guys fishing. It is pretty romantic to walk on during sunset. But a little disappointing. The nearby beaches Flamingo and Penca however are truly wonderful with beautiful white sand. They are the closest beaches to the south/north respectively. It takes about 30-40 minutes to walk to any of them, or 10-15 minutes by bike or even faster by car (both can be rented nearby). We recommend to rent something for transportation, at least parts of the time, since it is hard to get around otherwise. Also don't miss Playa Conchal or Playa Danta which are about 5 km away (also south/north) which also are really good. The condo was on the second floor in the building and felt big and airy and had a (limited) view of the ocean, and a balcony, and you could hear the waves from the ocean... but also the cars driving on the gravel road between the condo and the ocean. And some sound from the neighbours, but not too much and we were never disturbed. The showers were nice. The kitchen was equipped with everything needed, plates etc. It was not the best stuff, and a bit worn, but functional. There were also a blender, micro, dish washer, and a washing machine, which was very nice to have. The dish washer didn't really clean all the dishes completely though, especially in the top section, but it was ok. There was a food store about 300-400 meters north with most things you need in the everyday life (except dish washer detergent). There's a bigger supermarket and a bank closer to Flamingo (a couple of km south). There are a few nice restaurants in the area - El Castillo, The Coconut and especially The Shack - and a nice fruit market by La Perla bar. All in all, very good!

  Owner response: Thanks so much for your comments. I also wanted to make sure your comments about Potrero Beach were not taken out of context by future tenants. The water at Potrero is made up of a fine silky sand allot like the other beaches you will find along Guanacaste. I prefer that beach since its much more mellow not big waves and allows for better swimming, kayaking and safer for kids etc. The boats are much further south in the marina. I am glad you recognized the staff we have some of the best. And as far as the dishwasher is concerned I am glad you brought that to my attention its the first I heard of it and will have John get right to it and thanks again Pura Vida Owen

  My husband and I spent 86 days and can't say enough. Everything we needed was taken care of for us. John, the go-to guy when ever you need anything was always there. William, the daytime caretaker/security is amazing. He is so helpful and gracious. He even took care of finding us a tour guide who took us many places. Victor, who takes care of things at night made us feel so safe. To have someone patrol around the area every hour during the evening hours is just great. The grounds are always clean and well maintained. The weekend guys work just as hard at maintaining everything. The condo was clean and airy. The high speed internet is a wonderful added touch. Owen, the owner, worked with us on our dates and our deposit was refunded the day we moved out of the condo. This was a great place for my husband to relax and gear down after ten months in Iraq. We highly recommend this condo. A great stay and great memories.

  we truly enjoyed your condo and all the new things. We have been down to costa and so many of the condo's have old appliances and furniture but your art, appliances and furniture was all brand new. We loved the beach since it was mellow unlike the busy beaches of tamarindo and flamingo. We probably saw 5 people a day on the beach. We love the little market across the street and the walking access to the restaurants Las brisas for seafood, Castle for bakery good and best pizza and bar. We saw 3 howler monkeys while there in the yard. Your security guard Manuel was so kind to us and carried all our luggage even though there was an elevator up to our condo and would not take a tip. We are going to book early for next year and want to try the summer since we hear there is some rain during the day and great sunsets at night. Pura Vida as you artwork says. Where did you get those little paintings we have to find those for the kids.

  my wife and i stayed for one month in this property. it was much nicer than we thought and the enclosed property grounds are well taken care of with a great tropical pool area and grass, flowers and fountains. the owners provided great service, the property manager was always available with questions, and provided us with transportation to and from the airport, and arranged a rental car to be delivered to the property for us. we walked less than a block to the local grocery to get whatever we needed to cook or drink. After our stay, we checked out and received our security deposit back within 1 week, and a 10% off return discount for future visits. We did zip lines, fishing, went to several different restaurants, all great, and met so many cordial local people as well as other visitors to the area. It's beautiful, the beach is very amazingly beautiful and private, the water is warm and there are so many forms of animal, plant and even butterflies everywhere. We look forward to our next visit and highly recommend this property. Quite frankly, it's priced ridiculously low for what you get !!!

The property IS spectacular, we have many repeat clients and we personally enjoy the property and area. It IS walking distance to some local restaurants, two just a block away, with fresh fish tacos and even oven baked pizza and a bakery. The area is VERY clean. Again, we appreciate the honest review and glad you enjoyed the property as much as everyone else!!

  We rented this unit over the 2008 Winter Holiday break and based our decision on the HomeAway website description of this property. The website information was misleading, to say the least. We are timeshare owners and so often travel to these types of units, and this was the worst condo we have ever rented. It had a very bad smell that would not go away with open windows and doors. The smell seemed to be coming from the bed and bedding in the master bedroom. We tried stripping off the bedding and found the underlay to be covered with blood stains. Even when the property manager changed out the bedding, the smell was still so bad that we ended up sleeping on the couch. We tried sleeping on the pull-out bed, but that was just disgustingly dirty, too. Even the sheets in the childrens' room were dirty. The phone didn't work, and there was a broken chair in the living room, an old suitcase stuffed behind the couch, and wet towels in the closet when we arrived. The unit is very noisy - you can here every step of the people walking above you. We came back from this vacation more exhausted than when we left. Other things that were promised on the web site but were not in the unit or on the property: filtered water, spices, soaps, shampoo, security system, jungle views (the views are of vacant building lots with all kinds of garbage strewn on them), books, games, video library, DVD library, computer, bike, kayak, jacuzzi, beach chairs, coolers, fish-cleaning table, etc. You get the picture. Even the pots that we cooked on were the teflon kind with the teflon peeling off. This is just a basic condo in a basic condo complex with nothing more than basic furnature, lots of noise from neighbors, and a bad smell. Contrary to what the website says, Potrero beach is not the most beautiful beach in the area. While it is safe and calm, people go down the road to Flamingo beach, which you need a car to get to, for its whiter sand and cleaner water. The website promises fresh fish tacos and restaurants nearby. There is nothing nearby but a dusty little local store with vegetables and dry goods. The owners have also not returned our security deposit to us despite repeated requests. Nor have the explained why they are not returning it. They won't respond to our telephone calls, emails or letters. Basically, I don't think we are ever going to see our money again. All in all we would highly caution anyone from renting this unit.

  Owner response: This a blatant lie and an attempt to get more money. They contacted us and asked that we double the deposit back or they would write a bad review. I unfortunetly complied and sent it and they still wrote these things. We have all the paypal receipts and contracts to prove it. We have been renting this great place out for three years now and not one complaint. The only issue that we agreed on was the smell which turned out to be in all condos from the pipes and was address immediately. If you are considering rental and this review effects you please let us provide a list of people you can contact for testimonials.
