spring break with grandsons

Guest: granny (new iberia, la)
Date of Stay: 03/15/12 Review Submitted: 03/19/12

we spent a 3 day weekend with our daughter and her family. it was so relaxing. the swing close to the lake was our favorite spot. enjoyed watching the birds, boat traffic and the water. the boys enjoyed the pier, fishing from the boat while still tied up, checking yo yos on the pier and having lots of space to just run around. this was our second visit to da camp and my son in law says it just has good karma. we went mid march and everything was just beautiful, dogwoods, azaleas, wisteria. wish it was closer so we could go more often.

Toledo Bend Regular

Guest: Toledo Bend Regular (Louisiana)
Date of Stay: 03/06/12 Review Submitted: 04/16/12

The house smelled bad. The kitchen was terrible. The kitchen cabinets were full of stuff, no place to put supplies that you brought. The dishwasher didn't work. The so-called 4th bedroom didn't have any window coverings. We have stayed at Toledo Bend before and never had to haul the garbage off before, which was very aggravating. We would not recommend this place!

Owner response:An apology is in order for Alan. After some long term guests over the winter, the floor needed attention and the dishwasher was hard to operate. The repairs to these were delayed and didn't occur until the week after Alan left. A new floor is in as well as a new dishwasher. As far as the bad smell, its origin could not be determined since it was not present when the worker and owners made the repairs. Concerning the cabinets, the house is used by the owners and has some locked cabinets. This is the first complaint we had about not having enough room to store food. We will consider consolidating our stuff if this poses a problem. Concerning the "4th bedroom", we advertise only 3. We do have a sun room with a futon that can be used for extra guest. Finally, we ask our guests to haul their trash to a public dump site since we have had trouble with commercial garbage pickup service. However, that issue was also addressed when the owners in this subdivision pitched in to rent a private dumpster and placed as you drive in and within walking distance of the property. We take our guest's concerns seriously and try to address them promptly. Had we known that these issues bothered the reviewer beforehand, I am sure this less than desirable review would not have been necessary. DaCamp

A wonderful condo

Guest: Phil (Boulder)
Date of Stay: 09/02/11 Review Submitted: 09/07/11

We rented this condo over Labor Day weekend. This condo is conveniently located, just a short walk to downtown, and to 2 playgrounds. It is well furnished, and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped, and they have a gas grill on the porch. Reasonably priced. The owners seem very nice and were quick to respond to all of our inquieries. Perfect for our family with two young girls and grandma. We would definitely rent again!

Great Property

Guest: Michelle (Houston, Texas)
Date of Stay: 05/30/11 Review Submitted: 06/11/11

The property was very clean. Unfortunately the water was very low and we were not able to use the boat ramp. House was very roomy. It is in need of some updating in the kitchen especially. I especially liked having the washer/dryer. We took 3 kids so it was very helpful. Was not prepared for the long dusty road to get to the property. We will book this property again and I would definitely recommend it. I am rating 4 stars because I think the kitchen appliances (stove & dishwasher) along with the the dish supply need improvement.

HAD A GREAT TIME AS USUAL, NEW TELEVISION IN HOME WHICH WAS NICE. THE GROUNDS AND HOME WERE NEAT AND CLEAN AS USUAL. THIS IS OUR 2ND STAY AND WON'T BE OUR LAST. WATER LEVEL WAS REAL LOW BUT THE LEVEL WAS LOW EVERYWHERE. HOPE TO USE NEW BOAT RAMP NEXT YEAR WHEN WINTER RAINS COME AND WE CAN ALSO HAVE A CHANCE TO FISH OFF PIER AGAIN.

I just spent this past weekend here with my girlfriend and we had the best weekend! Da Camp was very spacious and had everything we needed. There was a swing that overlooked the lake and a pier that you could fish from. It's a perfect getaway place! We are actually planning another trip here for my friends birthday. I would recommend Da Camp to anyone looking for a quiet getaway or a group looking to celebrate!

Great for the whole family!

Date of Stay: 02/11/11 Review Submitted: 01/17/12

My family and I enjoyed a weekend stay here. I wish that it was a week instead because we didn't want to leave. There are so many fun things to do and something for all ages. We enjoyed breakfast every morning around a large table that accommodated out large group. There is a great view of the lake from the dining area as well. We all enjoying fishing from the roomy pier. The kids really enjoyed taking a nature walk around the property and in the neighborhood. The beds were very comfy and there were plenty of them to choose from. I always bring my pillow from home to insure I have a nice comfy one, however, this was not needed here. We were able to enjoy a great movie via cable tv. Though we did not get to play, any we did notice that there were a few games provided for out enjoyment. I also like the swing overlooking the lake as well as the screened in back porch. Both nice places to read a book or for the kids to play. We paid an extra fee for our dog and it was so worth not leaving her at home. There were plenty of places to put her crate and lots of room on the property to walk her. I highly recommend this cabin for groups or families with kids of all ages or family reunions.

What a dump 2011

Guest: Dud (Idaho)
Date of Stay: 02/11/11 Review Submitted: 03/24/11

This place is worn out, used up. Kitchen, esp. oven was dirty. Furniture worn out, carpets worn out, stained.Mattresses were REALLY worn out as well as linens and towels. Kitchen was full of worn out mismatched plates-a total of 7 mismatched coffee cups, glasses about the same.Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Owner response:In response to the above review, Da Camp is used as a Toledo Bend fishing camp. It is continually cleaned and is always in the process of being updated. We continually add amenities and make improvements to better serve our guests. Linens and towels are all relatively new. Coffee mugs and glasses, although many are mismatched, resemble the relaxed atmosphere that we are so proud of. Mattresses are the best Sam's Club offers and have always exceeded past guest's expectations. Rest assured that all above concerns will be investigated and addressed if necessary. Please take this comment in context with all previous comments.

If you want to get away from for a few days, this is the place!

Just returned from our stay at Da Camp. Me, my wife and our 12 and 9 year old sons had a great time. We had some TV problems, but that was our fault by hitting the wrong button on the remote. The camp is in a very quiet, peaceful setting. The only problem we had with the "quiet" was the neighbor three camps down decided to "chainsaw" all the stumps out of the lake in front of his camp. He chainsawed all afternoon on Saturday. My wife wanted to do him bodily harm, but thankfully she refrained. Again, the chainsawing was a problem not caused by Da Camp. The fishing right in front of Da Camp is great. We caught bass, white perch and catfish without having to venture into the main part of the lake. The yard seems like its endless with many places to sit and relax, and my kids played football with plenty of room to spare. Hopefully, we will rebook Da Camp this spring. I highly recommend it.

The only reason I didn't it 5 stars is the boat launch needs some work. Plent of room and the outdoor kitchen is a big party room we spent all of our evening there. Went we weren't fishing on the great deck. just need small hooks, floats and some shiner. My wife is a clean freak and she was very happy with everything.

Peacefull Vacation

Guest: Granny (United States)
Date of Stay: 07/15/10 Review Submitted: 08/02/10

My stay at this location was very relaxing, peaceful and quiet. We felt like we were all by our selves on a deserted island. It was very spacious, we were not crammed like at a hotel or in a camper. We all had areas we could go to be by ourselves if we wanted to read a book, talk, meditate, think or take a nap. This is a great place to go to get away from the noise, traffic, people, etc. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a peaceful vacation. Thanks.

You talk about wonderful. We fished and layed back at this beautiful house on the lake. If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of your busy life for some R/R them this is your place. My family and friends loved it. There was plenty of room on the grounds for everyone to do their own things and if we wanted to be together there is a great sunroom that overlooks the lake or a outdoor kitchen to gather in. We are going back in a few months. I CAN'T WAIT..............

Enjoyable Weekend

Guest: Laylo (Church Point, La)
Date of Stay: 08/07/08 Review Submitted: 08/12/08

My family stayed at the camp this past weekend and had a nice time. I enjoyed the feeling of solitude and the relazing sounds of the birds. The men fished in the early mornings and napped when they returned and we cooked in the evenings. My twelve year old stayed on the pier fishing between fishing trips. On Saturday we went tubing in a cleared area and had a blast (put plenty of sunscreen)! The camp was spacious with several glass porches. We would of saved time if we would of stopped and shopped at WalMart and Big Star on the way in rather than returning after we unpacked because it was about a 20 minute drive one way. We are planning to return.

I wanted to make sure that the owners receive my family’s enthusiastic ‘THANK YOU’ for allowing us the rental of Da Camp. We all had a wonderful time!! It was so much bigger and nicer than we anticipated. What a wonderful camp! And a big thank you to Mr. Kenneth who helped me find a “beach” for the kids to swim! They had a wonderful time at the Sabine River Authority Park Beach at the foot of the Pendleton Bridge. They had a blast!Enjoy the rest of your summer!Kara Baker & the Hargraves from Gueydan, LA

What a WONDERFUL place! My husband and I had two glorious days doing nothing but listening to the birds sing! Then our grown "kids" came and we had a grand time. Nice Place! So quiet. If you go here plan for lots of R&R, you bearly even get a cell signal! Very nice camp, clean and comfy, just right for a short vacation with the whole family. The outdoor kitchen gave us plenty of room for dinners together and the dock on the lake was great for bird watching in the evening. Thanks so much! We really enjoyed our stay.

I just wanted to say how much my sister and I loved our stay at Da Camp. We loved the back porch as it allowed us to enjoy the birds that came and went. With the rain we were entertained and rested our bones. Thank you for your patience with my phone calls asking this and that. Robin had Mary Lou come right out and showed us how to operate the heating system and we were good to go. Here is a list of the birds we enjoyed from your back porch-WOW!!! I used binoculars and my sister used a spotting scope. 2 Crows, 2 Brown Thrashers, Blue Jays, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Tufted titmouse, a pair of Wood Ducks, 3 Pie-Billed Grebes, 5 or 6 Double Crested Cormarants, Great Blue Herons (one stood on the railing of your dock), 2 Canadian Geese, many Cedar Wax Wings, Butter Rumps, Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, Robin, Juncos, Chipping Sparrows, a pair of Eastern Bluebirds, Northern Cardinals, Mockingbirds, White-throated Sparrows, Carolina Wrens and a Northern Flicker. The diversity of trees and plant along with the water make it a great habitat for birds of all kind. Those must be the wintering and resident birds. Are you and your family bird watchers? The camp was very comfortable and the setting just very special with hedges of daffadills, nandinas, rose bushes and other bulb plantings. What a great place for your family to create memories and family ties. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy, relax and find peace at the Da Camp. My sister and I hope to do it again, if that would be possible?

I, along with the group that came with me, had an excellent time. The weather was good and the scenery was excellent. I’d recommend this vacation spot for anyone who would like to get away from the cluster of the city for a while. All in all, I'd rate the trip a 9 of 10.

I'D HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CABIN FOR ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING TO ESCAPE. THE CABIN IS VERY NEAT AND CLEAN. WE ENJOYED WATCHING THE SUN RISE OVER THE LAKE FROM THE SUN ROOM. EASY ACCESS TO THE LAKE. GREAT FOR A FAMILY RETREAT. BEAUTIFUL SETTING WITH A LARGE WATERFRONT. THE FISHING IS GREAT! I CAUGHT AN 8 LB. STRIPER.
