Conveniently located on Chatham Square in downtown Savannah’s Historic District, this 1 bedroom, 1 bath home (sleeps up to 4) can also be rented in combination with the main upstairs house (listing #389078), creating 4 bdrms, 2.5 bathrooms and sleeping accommodations for 10 guests. Built in 1853, the Canterbury Garden Apartment is within walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants, churches, art galleries and museum, and only a 2-3 minute walk to Forsyth Park.

Upon stepping through the gate, you will continue down a path made of Old Savannah Brick pavers that leads to the Garden Apartment entrance. The path continues to the rear of the home, where a very large shared courtyard is outfitted with a table, chairs, umbrella and a grill. It is the perfect place for coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening.

Inside this property you will find a fully outfitted eat-in kitchen. The living room is adjacent and is tastefully decorated with a full-sized sleeper sofa, flat screen TV/DVD combo, exposed beam ceiling and original fireplace. The large master suite boasts the same original elements (walls, ceiling, fireplace) as the living room. It also has some great period pieces as well, including a queen sized cast iron bed. Attached to the master bedroom is the Full bathroom complete with large step-in shower. Also included are a full-size washer and dryer for longer stays, as well as a secure wireless internet connection.

Feel free to use the chairs, picnic basket and ground cover to enjoy at Forsyth Park, a 2 minute walk away. While shops are all around this property, the popular Broughton Street is only a 5-7 minute walk.

Also within walking distance (just across the square) is the famous Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House restaurant. For stays of 5 or more nights, our guests can enjoy lunch at Mrs. Wilkes on us (limit 2 Gift Certificates per stay). If you are unfamiliar with this restaurant, it has been included in 1001 Places to See Before You Die, and most recently visited by President Obama.

If you do want to bring a car, take advantage of this property’s own reserved off-street parking space.

We are from Savannah, we live in Savannah, and we love Savannah. We want you enjoy your stay in our home, and more importantly your stay in Savannah. We look forward to hosting you. Please contact us directly with requests for more info, pictures, or questions.

Lucky Savannah? We were the lucky ones to have chosen your Chatham Garden Apartment to be our home for 10 weeks. We can't imagine a better location. We walked all over the Historic District. We really loved the quiet neighborhood and being able to zip over to Forsyth Park for a good walk. That became valuable to us. It was a great benefit to have off-street parking, and the eating area overlooking such a lovely backyard. Everything in the home was in good condition, well stocked and comfortable. For anyone wanting a special Savannah visit, stay at this home. The owner truly cares about seeing that guests have everything to make their stay first class. Go to Mrs. Wilkes' for lunch, the Crystal Beer Parlor (both only 2 blocks away), the Pirates House and to Sweet Potatoes on Water St. for some special meals.

Thank you for the wonderful hospitality! We have rented many different properties and found this property to be exceptional in it's amenties and attention to details. We loved the thick bath sheets and cozy bed with the thick pillows. The kitchen was stocked with staples and plenty of ice was on hand. The cabinets had plenty of glassware and dishes and cookware. Try Parkers for gormet goodies they have free parking. We walked everywhere - it's a 15 minute walk to Factors Walk, 5 minute walk to Forsythe Park. We especially liked Soho and 17 hundred 90 for lunch, J Christophers for breakfast, Crystal Beer Parlor and Mellow Mushroom for dinner. We took a side trip to Tybee Island and apprecitated the lawn chairs that were provided. If you are hesitant about renting - don't be; this apartment is exactly as described. For the men - the tv has all your favorite channels. The apartment is a short walk from the Dot bus stop if you are tired at the end of the day. Thanks again to our hosts, we look forward to coming back to Savannah.

My family had a great time due both to the home and to Savannah itself. The location is brilliant- not only are the nearby restaurants great but the proximity to Forsyth Park can not be underestimated. Activities in the park, the playgrounds, the fountains, the local stores- all contribute to this home's ideal location. Despite the heat, the courtyard was a great place to spend time in the mornings and evenings and visits from the local cat amused my son. The apartment itself was exactly as described and its location is charming but away from the touristy stuff on River St. The greatest benefit to visitors, though, is the accuracy of the owner's recommendations. If you only visited the sites and restaurants recommended, you would have a brilliant time in the city and enjoy some wonderful food. (Be sure to drive down to the Green Truck Pub- a great find.) We highly recommend this property. After your visit here, you will surely wonder why you don't come more often.

We rented both the upstairs home and this garden apartment. Both were wonderful, and provided a perfect home away from home for our stay. The "young adults" in our family took over the downstairs apartment, and had a wonderful time catching up late into the night without disturbing the rest of the group upstairs. Everything is a close walk, and the free, secure parking was a bonus. We'll definitely be back!

Absolutely charming historic home to stay in when visiting Savannah. Well located in the historic district, easy walking distance to all of the attractions in the area. Wonderfully furbished with very comfortable beds. The house and carriage house are clean, well-appointed with all of the amenities one needs. Both House and Carriage house have information bowls at your fingertips from where to eat and what attractions to see and do. Double bonus on staying here !!!!! Just around the block from Mrs. Wilkes- Which is a must when in Savannah. I recommend staying the week just to have the privilege to enter Mrs. Wilkes via the back door by passing the long line up. I can’t think of any better place to stay. Thank you Cory for all of your hospitality. We will be back to visit!

It is within walking distance to everything in historic Savannah. Definitely have them walk you over to Mrs. Wilkes' for a fabulous lunch and bypass the 2 block long line!

We stayed for 5 nights, 4/1/12 through 4/6/12. The accomodations were exactly as listed. Everything was clean and well maintained. We really appreciated the well stocked kitchen with coffee, sugar, creamer, salt, pepper, cleaning supplies etc. provided. The bed was very comfortable. We especially liked the courtyard and had our coffee there every morning and a glass of wine each evening. The location was perfect - a quiet part of town but a short walk to all the attractions. We enjoyed lunch at Mrs Wilkes Boarding House and having Corey take us in through the back door made us feel like celebrities (and just a little guilty for bypassing the line). We also enjoyed the Mellow Mushroom and Crystal Beer Parlor. We would love to come back to Savannah and would definitely stay here again.

We so enjoyed our time inside & outside of the home. Parking was not too bad on the square & it was nice to have the spot the home provided. We found the space extremely clean & all linens provided were high quality. The bed & seating were comfortable. We were actually impressed with the items they provide in the kitchen. Walked to all the hot spots were fantastic & just a quick 30 minutes to the beach. When we checked in we had a chance to meet the owner who was extremely helpful in answering any questions we had. Corey was also helpful the times we communicated about the house. We hope to stay here on future visits to Savannah.

The location, appearance, parking, amenities all were top notch and I would definitely refer this property to friends and family. Wilkes boarding house meal was an added bonus and a must do, no matter where you decide to stay in Savannah.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 1994

About the owner: Both recently retired from the Airline industry, we are fortunate to now call Savannah our full-time home. We enjoy traveling, antiquing, golfing, gardening, and all the other things retired people do.

                      Why the Owner Chose Savannah:
My first experience in Downtown Savannah was the home my Grandmother owned when I moved here at the age of 13. I quickly fell in love with her home, and the National Historic District surrounding it. We were fortunate to inherit that home later in life, only to have it destroyed due to fire 10 days after taking ownership. We purchased this home to allow us to still stay connected to downtown after the unexpected loss of my Grandmother's house. We have enjoyed giving it the same love and care as if it had been in our family for generations. We only recently transitioned to a Vacation Rental property, with the idea that guests may stay in our home for their first trip to Historic Savannah, maybe falling in love with it as I did in my first visit to my Grandmother's house long ago.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Secure, off-street parking for the property, lunch at Mrs. Wilkes (without waiting in line), a level of service that surpasses hotel concierges, 3rd party Vacation Property Managers, etc....an extremely large shared courtyard, home overlooks one of only 22 squares in downtown Savannah.
