Property description

Live/work condo artist studio. Very unique and adorned with original art/collectibles. Serene and inspiring. Contemporary art meets a french antique market. Public transit nearby.

Come stay in a living art gallery. Creative artist's one bedroom loft in the ultra hot Queen Street West artist district. The space is full of original artworks by the owner and furnished with a gallery style minimalist aesthetic. The vibe is polished, serene, inspiring and very unique. Not your usual store bought furnishings, but handpicked antiques colliding with modern abstraction. Its the Whitney museum meets Les Puce French Antique Market. A one-of-a-kind artistic experience.

Located just one block south of Queen Street West (near Dovercourt) just down the street from the Drake Hotel. 10 minutes to City Centre by transit/transit stop out the front door. The 600 sq ft unit is in a brand new condo building. It is set up as a live work artist studio with terrific bed, fully stocked kitchen with plates, pots, and utensils – everything you need to arrive with your bags and settle in. If you are seeking a refuge from the urban scene without completely leaving the scene, then this is an ideal sanctuary. It also has wifi internet. There is one very comfortable high end bed with luxurious bedding and a second reclining sofa-bed.

The loft functions as my workspace and gallery, with my framed artwork on the walls. It has two large areas separated by a galley kitchen. The first area is an art and photography studio section and the second area (with great light) is the living area. The photography/art studio area is a great space for those wishing to begin, continue or explore their artistic practise in a real working studio environment. Or bring what you need to setup this space whichever way you wish. Its an open palette for your space needs, i.e. extra office space, another bed/bedroom, workspace, etc.

Local Queen Street West culture (the best in Toronto, and according to leading magazines, one of the best neighbourhoods in North America): cafes, galleries, world famous boutique Drake Hotel lounge and restaurant, vintage stores, indie coffee shops. Its all here in Queen West, just outside our door. You are close to all the great attractions that Queen Street West has to offer. Queen Street West is THE artistic hub of Toronto – think of it like New York’s Chelsea Gallery/Meatpacking District area. It’s chockablock with avant-garde galleries (there are literally six galleries within the block and one right in the loft building).

Toronto’s hottest (and newest) restaurant action is only a couple blocks away on Ossington Street where you’ll discover Delux (amazing steak frites at this French Cuban diner), Libretto (considered the best pizza in town), Paramour (voted Toronto’s most romantic spot), Union, Watusi, and Enoteca Sociale (voted number 2 on Air Canada’s En Route Magazine 2011 top ten Southern Ontario restaurants), to name just a few.

If five star indie-house coffee is your thing you’ve got four hotspots within minutes - amazing independent Java houses: Crafted (on Ossington), El Almacen (Argentinean and my favorite) on Queen, TAN, and White Squirrel (what has to be the busiest coffee shop in Toronto), both on Queen. Don’t forget the Croissants – at Clafouti, next door to White Squirrel – Torontonians drive from all corners to get a little bit of Paris at this amazing French bakery (across the street from another French Patisserie – Nadege – try their truffles). Both bakeries are on Trinity Bellwoods Park, a quick ten-minute walk from the loft. Many consider Trinity Bellwoods the best park in Toronto with summertime music, dance and outdoor arts/craft/theatre festivals.

Many of Toronto’s latest independent clothing, fashion and décor designers have set up small boutiques along both Queen and Ossington Streets in the area. It’s the best shopping in Toronto for local labels.

For nightlife, the coolest and now world famous hotel in Toronto, The Drake Hotel (with terrific bars, live bands, morning café, five star dining) is just out the door. Other local bars/restaurants within a couple blocks include The Beaconsfield (great happy hour specials), The Beaver (local LGBT resto-bar), The Theatre Centre (Toronto’s pre-eminent avant garde theatre and live performance space) and the Great Hall – a live music venue with regular bands.

I am always available by phone, email or text to assist with any concerns. I or a personal representative of mine (if I'm not in Toronto at the time) will check in guests, and ensure they have everything they need (including detailed information on local shopping, dining, transit, etc.)

Cleaning fee applies. Must be clean and tidy, professional and responsible.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: I am a working artist, writer, filmmaker, and theatre creator with an international career between Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles. This loft is my Toronto base when in Canada where I use it as a private art gallery (all art in the space is mine and has been professionally exhibited). I love travelling, meeting and collaborating with people on creative projects, experiencing new cultures, great food, wine, friends, art and conversation. I hope in staying in my loft filled with my artwork that this sharing of my work will touch and inspire you during your time in Toronto.

Why the Owner Chose Toronto:
Queen Street West is the most vibrant culturally active neighborhood of Toronto. To call it the Williamsburg of Toronto does not do it justice. Queen West has its own flavour and style, and you immediately feel it walking down the street outside the doors of my loft. Every year Toronto magazines vote in their favourite new restaurants and year in/year out they are invariably on or nearby the Queen West district. I'm a working professional artist with a career that takes me around the globe but I always love coming "home", back to my artistic hub, my neighbourhood. Take a bit of Amsterdam, throw in a touch of Berlin, a splash of Brooklyn, a dollop of Portland, and smidgeon of Taos, and you have the very unique Queen West Arts District. My loft, which is also my art gallery, is the absolute best way to experience and breath in 24/7 the artistic sense of the area. Sure there are other condos in the area for rent but very few that offer the living experience of original works of art surrounding you, inspiring you. My motto is: if you live in a creative neighbourhood like Queen West, really live in it - with original walled art as your starting point.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
A very unique artistic home awaits you, whether for a short stay or longer occupancy. Not your usual cookie cutter condo set-up but a highly creative original living experience. Public transit is just out the door on the Queen Street Car, then its a ten short minutes to downtown. There is also public parking across the street. Check-in is moderately flexible. No large parties or loud music. No smoking (sorry, building rules). No pets.
