This beautiful, fully air-conditioned, 3-story, private home is laocated in the gated community of Playacar in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Surrounded by lush tropical flowers and trees, this house is within walking distance of Mayan Ruins, a tropical aviary, tennis courts and the town of Playa del Carmen and is only 150 meters from white sand beaches. First level has 2 bedrooms with 2 double beds each, and each has its own shower en suite. The second level has fully furnished kitchen, dining room, living area with satellite TV/DVD, bar, and video library, as well as laundry facilities and 1/2 bath. Third level has Master suite with king bed, private bath and a large terrace. Fourth level is a rooftop terrace with breathtaking views of the Caribbean and Playa del Carmen. The house will sleep 10 people but would advise only 6-8 unless there are small children. The house is light and airy with lots of windows and surrounded by tropical gardens. We have a private swimming pool and terraces for outside dining.
The neighborhood is a private, gated community with limited access and yet it is just a 15 minute walk from restaurants and shops in the town of Playa del Carmen. 5 minutes away is a tropical aviary. In the area are many historical sites and outdoor activities available. It is not only a haven for those who love the sun and the beach, but also for those who want to explore the culture of the area. Many Mayan ruins are within 15 minutes to one hour away. The town is located on the Caribbean with crystal blue-green waters and white, white beaches. We are just 150 steps from that beach.
Playa del Carmen is a popular resort area on the Mayan Riviera. It is about 40 miles south of Cancun. Nearby are many mayan historical sites--some of the most impressive of the Mayan civilization. It is a great place for outdoor activities. Of course there are all the water sports including swimming, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, sailing, fishing--anything you would like to do. The diving in this area is some of the best in the world. Cozumel is a 30-minute ferry ride from this town. There you have excellent diving opportunities. There is also horse-back riding, four-wheeling, biking.
The town itself offers all the conveniences you might need--supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants galore, shops. Besides the smaller shops there are two large air-conditioned shopping malls with large movie theaters. All along the coast line there are other towns to visit. Or you could venture into the interior to other cities like Merida, Campeche, small villages where they have specialty artisans who make various textiles, pottery, hats, rugs, decorative items, ceramics.
We would be happy for children to stay in our home. There are three flights of stairs and the floors are all tiled. When you arrive at our home, you will be greeted by our caretaker who speaks English and Spanish. There will be maid service 6 days a week, excluding Sunday. All linens, kitchen utensils, paper goods, beach towels are provided. We prefer no smoking in the house, but on the terraces and balconies it would be acceptable. We can arrange a pick-up from the airport. Playa del Carmen is an extremely safe community. We feel as safe if not safer there than we do at home in Texas.

About the owner: George is a retired lawyer from Texas and Sandra is his wife who is retired from teaching. We have four sons who are all adults. The youngest is working on his doctorate in Washington, DC, and the other three are all married and live in Texas. We have 5 grandchildren aging from 4 years to 17 years old. We travel as much as we can. We have driven all over Mexico--we love the Mexican culture and enjoy seeing it all firsthand.
Why the Owner Chose Playacar:
We have been traveling to this area of Mexico since 1977 and have watched it grow in population by leaps and bounds. We love the Caribbean and have always wanted to have our own place in this area. Playacar is a quiet residential neighborhood in the heart of a bustling city and affords us all the best of being in this beach community. We can walk to the beach and we can walk to restaurants, shopping, entertainment just as easily.
