Welcome to Casa de Colores! All the warmth and colors of Mexico and examples of its famous folk art are at their best in this charming house located on a quiet cul-de-sac in the colonia known as San Antonio Norte, one of the most desirable San Miguel neighborhoods .
Through the antique double doors, enter into a walled sunny courtyard patio with tinkling fountain, flowering bougainvilla and hibiscus, and hummingbirds galore. French doors lead off the patio to the living room and kitchen. There's a half bath and handsome dining room located just off the living room with colorful glassware, dishes, and an exhibit of folk art on the sideboard.
Double built-in sofas flank the living room fireplace, and the television/DVD and stereo are close at hand for your enjoyment. Plenty of reading material is provided on the nearby bookshelves, including guides and maps to local activities and nearby towns. In the bright yellow kitchen, another fireplace is recessed into the wall near the inviting bar stools drawn up to the colorful Mexican-tiled counter. A cook's delight!
Upstairs on the second level is a brand new, bright and airy sun room that overlooks the flower-filled courtyard and fountain. Its boveda ceiling, glass skylight, and cozy corner cast-iron chiminea make this a perfect spot for relaxing, reading, or entertaining. There are also two corner desks here, complete with cable internet connection for those who wish to bring a laptop. The split-level hallway off the sun room (whimsically watched over by a large, multi-colored ceramic pig) leads you into a single bedroom and bathroom with shower.
To your right, you enter the queen-sized master bedroom complete with cupola and its adjoining tiled bathroom and tub. Yet another gas fireplace is available for your warmth and comfort on those chilly winter nights. Up the spiral stairs to level three finds you in the third bedroom (double bed) and large, built-in storage closets. Beyond that are two roof terraces with gorgeous panoramic views of the town and the distant blue mountains. Everywhere you look are lush flowering vines and plants.
Our friendly and reliable housekeeper, Catalina, comes in twice a week to clean and water the plants. She'll be happy to help you practice your Spanish!
A truly comfortable, bright, and cozy home, a ten to fifteen minute walk into El Centro and the "Jardin" (main square). Close to restaurants, the Instituto (now full of art galleries), Bellas Artes, other art and Spanish language schools, yoga classes, and one of the town's largest public markets with vendors selling fresh produce, flowers, and other essentials.
A comment from a recent guest at Casa de Colores:
"We spent Christmas at your lovely home in San Miguel. It was such a lovely experience and your home was cozy and inviting, we had all the comforts of home. Our thin Texas blood especially enjoyed the gas fireplaces on chilly mornings. We appreciated all the hints and tips and managed to eat at most of the places you recommended as well as shop for oranges, eggs and chicken at the Mercado De San Juan. The bougainvilleas were blooming as well as the lovely double yellow hibiscus in the courtyard and a hummingbird snacked from them daily the week we were there". LB, Austin, TX.
Bienvenidos!
