Dramatic Mountain Retreat W/Breathtaking Views and Stream

Beautiful Mountain retreat with breathtaking views. This home sits at 9,000 ft in the San Juan mountains with great hiking, biking and snow sports from the front door. It has 2 bedrooms - large master and a bunk room that sleeps 4 as well as a den w/queen sofa sleeper. This home also offers a great room with 21 ft ceilings, walls of glass, a large stone fireplace and state of the art entertainment center, an open kitchen w/stainless appliances, concrete counter tops, large bar, dining table for 10, a screened in porch, over 1200 sq ft of decks with postcard views, an outdoor wood burning fireplace, loft with 2 offices and a pool table, an outdoor shower with views and even a gym in the front of the 40 ft long heated garage.
I built this home in 2008 as a place to eventually retire and when designing and building I took great care with the custom details. I used natural local materials such as reclaimed barnwood for floors and beams, natural biodegradable stains and stone from the local mountains.
The views from every window, porch and deck are amazing. From the east and south decks you can enjoy spectacular views of the Cimmaron range and the San Juan Range. From the front porch and north screened porch you will enjoy the serenity of the beautiful mountain stream cascading through the front yard.
Whether you are looking for a summer, fall, winter or spring retreat - you will love the beauty of this setting and all it has to offer.

We decided to stay in Ridgway this time (we often go to Silverton) and I'm so glad we did! The house was amazing, beautiful and clean! The view can't be put into words, simply amazing! We had fewer guests than originally planned and they were disappointed they were unable to join us especially after seeing the pictures we took. The owner was super nice and the cleaning lady made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for making our stay exactly what we hoped it would be.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful CO home! Our family of five from Texas had a great family Christmas trip. The drive through the San Juan Mountains to the cabin was breathtaking, leaving my kids speechless for 3 hours during the drive! The drive to Telluride was just as pretty and not too far for us to enjoy skiing/snowboarding. We spent good times together at the cabin, playing some of the board games provided, playing pool and cooking-in instead of eating out as you would at a resort. We had a wonderful time and look forward to planning another trip hopefully in the summer. Thanks again, Happy New Year! The Burke Family (Justin, TX)Did you find this review helpful? We had a wonderful stay at this house. The deck is amazing (we have a 4 and 1 1/2 year old and they loved playing on it - the railing is plenty safe) and the house is beautiful, with excellent finishes throughout. Although there are other houses nearby, you can't really see any from in the house or on the deck, which makes is feel very private. It's 15 min drive up a gravel road from Ridgway, but the views from the deck are well worth it. Wireless and satellite worked great as well. The only thing we could have asked for would have been more time to stay and relax on the deck! Thanks again RickDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I decide to rent this house for our summer vacation. Im so glad we did. We enjoyed every moment especially in the mornings sitting on the spectacular deck. The views are great. The house itself was well done. I think the best thing about the house is the outdoor fireplace. We enjoyed it every night! You wont regret staying here. It's a wonderful house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

What a week! There is something really special about walking into a room that lets you look hundreds of miles across the forest with snow-topped mountains as a backdrop, towering above everything. We instantly fell in love with the cabin. What detail – the beams in the ceiling, the rock and steel work, the fantastic kitchen counter that lets you see the mountains while you cook, the unique fans in the ceiling, the rustic but comfortable furniture inside and out, the huge outside deck (I got lost twice on), the mountain view from the showers (inside & out) and big windows that open wide for the continuous cool mountain breeze. We left occasionally to see Telluride, Ridgway and Ouray, only to hurry back to the house wondering why we left this spot to go anywhere. As beautiful as this house is, it is all trumped by the grandeur of God’s creation, the mountains, the animals we saw (deer, elk, turkeys, grouse, and a bear) and the serene quietness that takes your heart back where it needs to be. It is rare when you can truly say there is nothing you would change about a VRBO. That is the case with this beautiful home 8 miles outside of the peaceful setting of Ridgeway . . . well maybe I’d make it only 6 miles!! The property was exceptionally clean and well-maintained and the owner was very accommodating in meeting our needs. We have already recommended it to family and friends. Boy – do we want to go back!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Our family of five took a Southwest Colorado mountain retreat for Spring Break this year. This home was the centerpiece of our visit, and it is amazing! The first thing that strikes you walking into the main room is the panoramic view of the valley and San Juans. One could spend an entire vacation on the deck alone. That being said, the rest of the house was fantastic. It was spacious, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. We spent several evenings on the deck near the outdoor wood fireplace relaxing while making s'mores and watching the sunset, then the stars. We spent most days exploring Ouray, Telluride and the surrounding beauty of SW Colorado. The home is perfectly placed as a "base of operations", and was a wonderful retreat at the end of the day for making dinner and planning the next days adventures. The peacefulness of the wind in the trees and the sound of the stream running out front would melt even the greatest of stresses away. Practically speaking, the home is quiet and supremely comfortable. The beds were great, there was plenty of room for kids and adults to have their own space, the gourmet kitchen was a huge treat, and (don't think poorly of me :) ) the WiFi was great to have for doing those on-line things we "need" as denizens of the 21st century. Furthermore, Rick was remarkably welcoming and helpful. He pre-empted most of our questions and answered all of our others promptly. In summary, the home is fantastic, and I would highly recommend it for a family (or couple's) getaway. You will be very happy with your stay! We hope to return soon. If I could build a home in the mountains, this would be it!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My wife and I enjoyed her birthday weekend in mid-Jan 2012 at this beautiful property. The views from the deck are fantastic (we were lucky with sunny winter weather) and the indoor gas fireplace made the family room nice and warm. The drive to Telluride was easy (about 1 hour). The drive up to the property from Ridgway is about 15 minutes (7-8 miles) up a well maintained, but "mountain" road (i.e., not all paved, some minor ruts/potholes, snow). This was exactly what we wanted because it really put us "in the mountains" but I would recommend an All Wheel Drive vehicle (which we had), at least for winter visits. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely consider renting, again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Our family stayed in this cabin the week after Christmas. This cabin was everything we could have wished for. It was absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms were very spacious for our family of 5. The mountain views were so beautiful and truely breathtaking. About the owner: My son and I are avid outdoor enthusiasts. I built this home for he and I and someday his family to enjoy. My son and I come up here to enjoy the fresh air, wildlife and adventure whenever possible. We enjoy all four seasons here. We love to hike, bike, kayak, ride quads and motorcycles and ski and snowboard in the winter. We also really enjoy all that Ridgway, Ouray and Telluride have to offer. I'm in the tourism business and in all my travels this is still the most beautiful place I've found I plan to someday retire in this home but until then I will reside in Carefree AZ.
Why the Owner Chose Ridgway:
10 years ago we visited our friend's ranch in Ridgway and initially fell in love with the beauty of this area and the quint towns of Ridgway, Ouray and Telluride and all the fun bars, restaurants and shops they have to offer. Then we discovered all the endless adventure and we were hooked.
